Finally figured out the Lizard Brothers riddle. I have about 1,020 Poes to return to the afterlife via the brethren. Sold some Sapphires for a pretty penny, sold some cooked meat skewers too. I'm getting close to finishing up the bulk of the Eldin region. Decided next that I'll go for the other extreme; I'll head Northwest and tackle the blizzards and snow storms that have been ruining the lives of the Rito tribe. In TWW, I remember them not being near the cold at all, it seemed like they lived in windy and warm climate back then. But in BOTW, the could weather the cold regions iirc? Either way, in TOTK they're being buried by snow and the entire region is underneath some massive, ominous swirling cyclone of clouds. I've seen it in the skies countless times. I'll tackle the Hebra region next while it's still Winter

I am making some serious ground here in the Depths. The experience down here is unlike any other video game. It's fucking nuts. Like this place is unbelievably expansive. I don't know the story of what took place here yet since I'm only like 1/4 of the way finished but it's a strong mystery for sure. I've heard of the beginnings in the Sky. But what in the hell happened here in the Depths?

My best guess is that the entire Imprisoning War took place underground at one point, and that the Zonai lived underground for a time since the Surface and the Skies weren't safe. Just speculation at this point

Exploring the depths was probably my favourite part of the game. Unlocking new areas of the map by exploring through the dark was so fun. If only the sky islands were as developed in size and scope.

Dude I've played a lot of TOTK. Pretty much only FFXIII: The Zodiac Age, Pikmin 4, Super Mario Bros. Wonder have stopped me from playing it nonstop. I'm at 340 hours now about and the game just keeps on giving. Spent like 90% of the time exploring and stocking up, sidequests and building the rest has been story and the one dungeon I've completed. Soon I'm going to sell a fuck ton of meals and items and boost my rupees. Maybe I'll experiment with cooking dishes again, fortify some items and then make way towards the Hebra Mountains

I still have yet to take down a Gleeok but I haven't tried in months now. It might be time. Depths are about 55-60% filled with the Light Roots. Game is fucking massive. I added another 3 batteries to the Zonai Charge and am starting to itch for story again so Rito section is up next

Also checked out Tarrey Town today for the first time in a while and started building a house. What a nifty little addition that is. Link's home has always been modest in other games. Usually just a place to sleep and a roof over his head. Looks like Link in TOTK is going to be living fat off the land though

The monsters in the Depths don't sleep. A group of Yiga Clan members stayed up for three days straight hoping to launch a surprise attack on a group of monsters that they were forced to set up camp near. The only one that sleeps is the Hinox, and they suspect laziness to be the factor possibly

Yeah it truly is a bit of fun despite how gloomy and simple it is down here beneath Hyrule's surface. The Depths basically allow you farm, battle and explore your way to a stronger playthrough. It's like a hostile war in the dark beneath the surface. You have enemy factions like the Yiga Clan researching and trying to build something it seems, Ganondorf's army of monsters, and then there's obviously some great history to uncover down there as well. But I can't prove that just yet, I'll need to continue onward in this section. But the fact that Link can use his arm that Rauru used to have, makes me think that Rauru was once here and perhaps leading an advanced civilization here as well. At the very least, I'll assume he planted the Lightroots at some point to serve their purpose

An interesting thing I've discovered yesterday is that the Yiga Clan hypothesizes that a wall is artificially made somewhere near the Hebra region, specifically near Lomei area where a Labyrinth exists above on the surface. I didn't see the wall they were talking about, but the entry did say to check on the surface to find the answer. I'll head over there eventually and try to figure it out

I traveled over to Rito Village and saw Teba and Tulin and Tulin's mom for the first time since the events of BOTW

The blizzard is taking down their village, Rito Village. No vendors can make it in safely so food is scarce. The weather is extremely harsh, even for Rito but all the villagers are staying headstrong and doing their part. Most of the kids are running the village, the adults seem to be scattered elsewhere either driven out by the cold or helping to scrape up some resources to take back to Rito Village. Tulin wants to go straight to the source of the blizzard, that ominous storm vortex of a cloud but his father is hesitant and cautious. There's a song I'll listen to sung by a young villager here. Apparently it tells of a legend about an Ark that protected the Rito in ancient times, long ago

Tonight I may try to make one more push in the Depths. Increase Muddle Buds, Bomb Flowers, Puff Shrooms, powerful weaponry, and I'll also aim to get a Lightroot if I can. Collecting Poes as well. I'll bring with me a ton of elixirs for speed, stealth, brightness

Got 548 Bomb Flowers currently. 600 or so and then I'll be comfortable going to venture into the Rito's area to dominate like a maniac

I have like 96% of the Depths filled out but I'm fairly certain that there are still at least like a dozen or fifteen secrets I missed. I'll have to build smarter and create like a doomsday machine for the mining monsters down there. I'd prefer to let that do almost all the work while I carefully explore the areas so that I can maybe 100% the Depths and all the mysteries down there, history, etc.

Yeah this is gonna be crazy. I feel like after I finish this game, I'll be able to converse about it with almost anyone and be able to fully understand its placement and how good of a game it truly is. I've seen a lot in this game. It's definitely an improvement from BOTW, but there are a lot of cons to discuss as well when it's all said and done too

Thanks dude. If I remember right you've finished a handful of Zelda games or more right? Which ones make your top five in the series? I'm also patiently awaiting a future convo about this game and the series with @Optimus so we can all discuss it in-depth eventually. This particular installment has a lot of lore but I'm too early in the story to see exactly where it lands on the TLoZ Timeline

It'll take some time, but it should be worth it in the end. I honestly can't imagine that the next games to follow will feel or look like this any longer. You have to expect that the devs are dead tired of creating in this art style and formula just like the fans are mostly over it as well after this sequel wraps things up. It's great, but of course I was hoping for extreme adjustments and changes as well like from OoT --> MM

Top 5? Probably looks a little something like

MM
BotW
OoT
LttP
WW

Believe it or not, not really much of a fan of Twilight Princess and never bothered with Skyward Sword (which I should probably remedy, I like the sound of the time mechanics with some of the puzzles)

Solid list, yours is fairly similar to my top 5 in the series. I'm not a big fan of Twilight Princess either, but it had a glimmer here and there of brilliance so I won't hate on it too much. I just think that it's a very dull Zelda game most of the way through. Skyward Sword is the worst Zelda game in many ways. That's how I feel about those two in a nutshell, basically

The problem with TOTK, and I'll save most of my criticisms for after I've completed it, but the main issue is that it does not unfold naturally like a great story should say, in a book. It's not a smooth transition from one moment to the next in this adventure because it is all so vast, and varied. There can be a lot of time you as the player in control can find yourself meandering, going in circles. The farming of resources in TOTK puts a really nice bandaid on this flaw because it's fun to collect items and gain more for use in the way of advantages and being a stronger knight, swordsman, etc. There's no denying it, the player must forage and explore and gain to become useful in this dangerous quest and overworld since Hyrule is riddled with highly dangerous monsters (for the first time in many, many years)

But what I'm getting at essentially is that BOTW and TOTK alike unfold more like a check list. The game plays itself out best actually, if you kind of treat it like a list, I've found. Which is pretty lame if you ask me, but that's how it's designed. The game is so massive that on the surface, you almost have to rely on willfully appointing the sidequests, side adventures, shrine quests, main game quests etc. and then go after them one by one. Many events will take place naturally at the start of the game and middle of the game with enough play. But now I'm finding that you sort of have to go down the line and start checking the list if you want to experience the game in full

I'm not really used to that as an old school gamer. I don't think anyone is too used to it. I'd call it poor design, in a way. The best games ever created have excellent pacing to them. They make you do all the work to earn the reward, but in a way it's also like a rollercoaster ride because the game naturally leads you without you even knowing. That's not the case in TOTK. Players must make use of the logs to see and do everything. That's not epic. That's a checklist adventure

The sidequests are a little better than BOTW's. But still, they need to improve upon their sidequests some. Those are some of my recent thoughts about TOTK

I have a ton of inventory now. I'm at the point where there's enough to go full Fierce Deity mode if needed on any of these monsters through weaponry and power boosting meals. 849 Bomb Flowers, 802 Puff Shrooms, roughly 570-600+ Muddlebuds

At this time I'm still kind of just exploring; both with purpose and idly at times; but I've been finishing some sidequests, side adventures, and shrine quests

So many Korok Seeds and Addison signs everywhere I go, it's starting to get annoying lol. I might just try to get the Koroks out the way first that way I don't have to look at and hear them struggling any longer. That will be tedious. But even more boring and tedious will be the Addison signs for Hudson Construction. I have to figure out a one-size-fits-all box that I can make for this guy's signs and just have it auto-built

I started to deliver Koroks to their friends and am helping Addison at every sign post area in sight. Also have 901 Bomb Flowers. I'm set with those, I'll have to use a few dozen soon. Yesterday I entered Rito Village again, also stopped by the house with the bon fires where Rito are stocking food supplies and other useful supplies like flint and wood to combat the storm that appeared out of nowhere. I learned about the Stormwind Ark and its legend, as well as its song. I might revisit that house and read it again before meeting with Tulin, who has been said to have mastered flying and is even a cut above all the adults according to the Rito in the stocking house. He's mastered a technique mid-air and he's also been providing everyone with reliable updates. This is all new lore and adventure so I'm excited to see what happens. I don't know who this 'god' is that they speak of but it will be interesting to see if he appears in the story at any point. They're taking what looks to be a full leap forward here with the lore of the Rito tribe so I'm hoping that it's a step in the right direction and not something that's destined to be left behind like how some of Skyward Sword's lore did. Would be cool to see a Loftwing in this story arc

That's a lot of dedication, getting that many bomb flowers. I used to take a while to get up to 99 and then go on adventures again.

I've been saving the story for a long while, because I know how quickly this game can fly. Most of my playthrough has been exploring, gathering resources, testing things out, and all the little things first. I'm going to focus on Shrines of Light and the story pretty soon as I'm getting close to maxing out a dozen or so different items. This is gonna be great, the search for Shrines is usually challenging, but I'm interested in the story the most. Game is massive so I doubt I'll get to 100% but I'd like to see most of what takes place in this game in its sidequests and all that

What I like about TOTK is that it gives you so many tools to create and the exploration almost never ends. It's insane how many layers there are to this game

It's been almost a year since launch and I find it so easy to just get back into the game for hours at a time. Just wandering and exploring and goofing around.

Same. Yesterday I was traveling from one Sky Island to another and that's where the real beauty of the game lay. You're high up, you see your true destination and want to reach it, so you create something to travel there and the view while doing so is outstanding. To see everything below you and above both far and wide like this almost puts me in a state of awe. And then you reach a Sky Island and that itself is usually a looker too. In general, I love and appreciate the careful design that went into TOTK even if it's not the Zelda of old that I truly love and had hoped for. The N64 Zelda games possibly are untouchable classics. But TOTK offers a ton if not two or three tons for fans. It literally feels like the secrets never end in this game, that's how many there are in Hyrule

It's amazing that this is done on much weaker hardware but I think it also proves that performance and graphical fidelity isn't really the whole story with games.

If the game is good to play and keeps you coming back for more then that's what counts. Plenty of great looking games that don't even come close to this for gameplay.

The only downside for me is that I played BotW first and so some of the initial magic is just not there. I think a case could be make that TOTK is actually the better game. Just that little shift in context that makes it seem like "Breath of the Wild 1.5" reduces the impact of so many moments.

I'd like to see Nintendo follow this by giving a brand new traditional top down Zelda game and then a new 3D style Zelda game before giving us a new open world game much further down the line.

3/5 done with The Wind Temple

Just make sure you remember the direction you are going when you start up your game again. I confused myself by accidentally going backwards after starting the game, and went from almost finishing the route to being back towards the start again. 😅

Finished the dungeon last night

Stormwind Arc itself was kind of cool, but it was clearly designed to be most players' first dungeon as the game kind of tries to corral players to the Hebra region from the very start. I saw that and decided I'll go against the grain. The Wind Temple is so easy, it's more of a mini dungeon if you ask me. But the boss fight was spectacular. The best boss fight since Stallord in Twilight Princess. That was truly epic, I just wish it were harder and lasted longer because the boss design was epic, name was a bit lame tbh but the overall fight is easily a 9/10, incredible

They kind of used the Hebra region as an introductory dungeon like "Inside the Great Deku Tree" in Ocarina of Time. I don't think that was entirely wise and warranted considering this was supposed to be a open world game where it all ties together well no matter which path you take. I believe they shorted themselves and their fans of an epic portion of the game. Part of what makes an exceptional level, is challenge. It's actually a huge part of what makes an outstanding level. If I'm not struggling to figure things out as Link while I'm with Tulin and his tribe members, then it's too easy. If I'm not struggling to gain ground towards finding and reaching the actual temple, then it's again too easy. And if the dungeon itself is also too easy, then the entire level is technically a cakewalk. It's not good, in a way

A huge thing part of why the N64 Zelda games still reign supreme is because they actually had Link and characters truly struggle to figure things out. They spent time together in dire situations. They conquered elaborate dungeons together at times. Insane bosses and unique mini bosses were fought. An epic adventure between Link and the Sages in OOT was established and conquered. Nintendo made it way too easy in BOTW and still makes this same mistake in TOTK

They are doing NOBODY a favor by continuing this flawed design they're insisting to keep up. You have to add difficulty. You have to crank up the number of times a player will have to think and struggle even to get past enemies and areas. They completely squandered a great portion of this game all because they insisted on making it fluid and breezy to get through. I was a bit disappointed in that decision, but I still enjoyed this section of the game as my 2nd major level or mission in TOTK

I think for now, it's time to explore plenty again. Upgrade clothing, use plenty of resources for meals and battling enemies as the exploration takes place. Just going to try to find more Korok Seeds, help Addison build up Hudson's Construction (mainly in hope for more Sleepover Tickets), find more treasures, seek out more Shrines, and I gotta visit more Sky Islands too. Sidequests. Might be time for me to pursue the Master Sword as well

Still thinking about building that ultimate killing machine and using it in the Depths and around enemy camps on the Surface. Would be pretty sick to create like massive tank to roam the fields with and just activate a Zonai death machine to do all the fighting for me, and even have a place to store my flying machine on said tank. Link is basically a one-man army in this game, might as well move like one going forward since he's essentially been fighting in a war

I got the Master Sword. That was heavy, I'm not gonna lie here that was a tough pill to swallow, finding out the truth of how it was restored. I don't know if the transformation will truly be permanent, I hope it isn't, but this sacrifice makes me want to eviscerate Ganondorf lol. I have so many resources, and when the time comes I'll unload on the Final Boss when that segment takes place. I just hope that it doesn't happen out of nowhere by some accident. In BOTW, I stumbled into the endgame by accident and decided why stop here; ended up finishing off the Calamity Ganon

Last night I was exploring some, just doing some sidequests and Shrine Quests as well. Went into the Depths to explore and unexpectedly encountered Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan. I knew the two researchers trying to get me to use the ancient powers were his, but had no idea that he would be there afterwards to confront Link. The battle was of course a joke lol, but it was still nice to see that the Depths have some surprises

I gotta explore more of the Sky. Way more of the Sky. I'll probably be Sky Island hopping for a bit until I'm ready to tackle the third portion of the land of Hyrule. I'm definitely leaning more towards the Gerudo, for a variety of reasons. And I'm expecting that I'll help the Zora out last. It could change, but that's the order I believe it'll be. I kind of feel like Prince Sidon and his fiancé would be a nice finish to the story and I'm assuming they'll work together during that segment of the game

There is so much to do and think about in this game it's almost a futile effort planning each specific session. You think you can map it out but even when you do, there are so many things on the side still that will catch your eye. But for now, I'm just gonna do whatever I feel like doing and enjoy the game. It's possible I try to cover more ground in the Gerudo Desert and explore there, but before I do that I'd like to explore the Depths and add to my Zonaite store. I started working on that death machine and plan to add more and expand ideas to their full potential. At the very least I want to be able to roll up to a spot with two or three Silver Bokoblins, one of those goofy taller ones, a handful of others and let this machine do 90% of the work while I wait out the toughest moments of the battle; maybe use one mid-tier item for cleaning up while collecting all the resources

I think the Sky Islands are a bit bare in the game to be honest. The depths are great and content heavy but the sky islands could have used a bit more quests/locations I feel.

I look at them as more of "the cherry on top" than anything else. In Skyward Sword, the lot of all Sky Islands combined were worse than the ones we started out on here in TOTK. So I'm just glad that these ones are there and have some decent treasures, are calming at times, and I'm just glad that they're there to dive off of and check out. Some are lookers, others aren't anything much. I'll have more to say about them in a month or two

Had a simple flying Zonai device that I created, it takes 18 Zonaite to create or build. Flew that fucker over the Great Deku Tree's fog protection sort of dome and they spawn me without my device. So stupid bro. This happens sometimes too when you drop the thing you're flying and it hits from too far away or too fast maybe? The thing just disappears entirely. This is what I dislike about such large games. There's no way they can manage to uphold quality on all fronts, something has to give. Even if it's just a minor annoyance like this, it's kind of lame that the game tries to impress with such an immense overworld - but then you can't even continue on with your inventory at times. It's dumb

I'm kind of on the fence about whether I should take pictures of all the things in the Hyrule Compendium via the Purah Pad or just pay for each one... I think I'll start taking pictures and try to at least fill up 25% of it and see how that feels. Despite how freakin' huge TOTK is, it's been the first game in a long while that I legitimately am in the mood for completing one-hundred percent. I don't suspect that I'll be able to 100% it but it's worth a try since TOTK is one of those one and done games. BOTW and TOTK are the type I can only play once, and from there, that will conclude that unless I wish to go back and mess around or think about something

To be honest I think that the rain is far too frequent considering how annoying it can be.

It also makes the game look worse too.

Another thing that has bugged me too is having basic combat tutorials hidden inside shrines. Haha. What the hell? You can spend 10s of hours in the game and then find a shrine and it's like "here is how to parry projectiles". OK.

Chests should have had better loot. Should have been way more gems inside of chests. Or more fused weapon and shield items to give the player some ideas. I'd even accept some cool recipes being included with chests. A lot of times it's just not good stuff.

I don't mind the weapon breaking system as it encourages experimentation and forces use of all kinds of different weapons but the game should be a lot more generous with weapon slots in the beginning.

The amount of content here is ridiculous though. Really impressive. The downside is that I don't think there's much replay value here at all.

Are they holding DLC back for some kind of Switch 2 edition?

Started exploring Gerudo region in-depth. Might have to bring one of my steeds over her and prepare a bunch of elixirs for movement speed and heat resistance. Heat Resistance attack up clothing is nice, been using it in battle. I'll probably aim to take out the Yiga before I dive into the main story, both in the Depths and above around at the Hideout

The Gerudo region has both extreme heat and extreme cold, so you might want to stock up on some cold resistance items as well. The caves you were supposed to use to hide from the weather are too far apart to be useful.

So I'll be honest, the game is obviously a technical marvel on the Switch, it's gorgeous and there's a lot to like, and I loved BOTW, but honestly this one has done nothing for me, and honestly I think it's the physics that killed it. I dropped it, haven't gone back, because I just can't be bothered with it. Very disappointing tbh.
