Thread: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom |OT| The Sky's the Limit - [Strong Internet Recommended]
Official Thread
I made the mistake of watching the IGN review. While they claimed it was 'spoiler free', it had a few MAJOR tidbits that are fairly incredible and unexpected. My hype meter has now blasted past 11.

So for sure avoid any reviews if you dont want some of the big surprises ruined.

For games I'm really hype for, I usually just listen o the reviews! I try not to watch! It's been working for me I haven't seen anything spoilery!

I'm still trying to finish Dragon Quest 11 (I thought it was over but the game "subverted my expectations") so I won't be getting TOTK just yet. I guess I'll be a little late to the party with TOTK.

I am eager to know what the rest of you find good about the game though. I just want to get a house again. 😌

Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Release Date And Unlock Time
Just an FYI from the website

Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Release Date And Unlock Time
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be released on Friday 12th May 2023.

Usually, Nintendo isn't one for revealing the precise unlock times of its games, but it seems that the company has made a small exception for a title of this size.

The release times for North America were confirmed by a Nintendo spokesperson to GameSpot. They are:

  • North America
    • East Coast US: Friday 12th May 2023, 0:00am EDT
    • West Coast US: Thursday 11th May 2023, 9:00pm PDT
We've reached out to Nintendo UK for confirmation, but below we have made estimates for the global release times based on the unlock times for previous first-party titles (so bear in mind that some of these may well differ):

  • Europe (ESTIMATE)
    • UK: Friday 12th May 2023, 0:00am BST
    • EU: Friday 12th May 2023, 0:00am CEST
  • Japan (ESTIMATE)
    • Friday 12th May 2023, 0:00am JST

Yes! But hopefully this time we can put more swords and shields on display.

We're less than 2 hours away so I'll give my only spoiler tip that has really nothing story-related.....

When you first get into the game unlike BotW which goes straight open world this game puts you in a tutorial sandbox that I initially HATED because it felt so forced. The reality is once you get past this you're pretty much left to your own creativity. Do the opposite of what I did which was bitch about that tutorial sandbox and really embrace all the ideas/directions it might help to push you in when down the line it's up to you to be creative. One's ability to be masterful with the new tools is the absolutely game-changer in this one and some of those early sand box toys to play with will 100% help you in the future.

I was hoping the amd fsr 1.0 would improve this on my tv but it still looks blurry just like breath of the wild did… Looks like this will be pretty much exclusive handheld mode for me. The input lag is very low; I've definitely played quite a few 60 fps titles with higher latency.

Fuck my life man. I have 3 weeks off and a couple of weeks ago I agreed to help my cousin renovate his fucking apartment. so today neither can I play the new zelda nor the Diablo beta. Hope we can finish all this shit today. So I can enjoy a little bit of both games tomorrow. Otherwise I'm fucked tomorrow too.

Waiting for some d-pad impressions and gifs

Managed to play an hour last night and a little bit during a meeting today. I like what I see so far - it's definitely familiar but it'll be interesting to see the impact of the new stuff. I don't love the visual design of the exterior of the new shrines, the old ones looked much better. The physics seem fairly robust, impressive tbh given the hardware isn't exactly powerful.

Strangely I am not getting bombarded by reviews in my Youtube feed. I think the various movie trailers that I view are keeping it out of sight for the time being.

I did a little searching about the game and was very pleased. You can get a house again!🥳🥳🥳😌

Can't wait to start hopefully next week.

I sincerely hope Walmart isn't about to let me down. If this thing is still in "Preparing" by about 3 pm today, I don't know that I will be patient.

Update: I am so glad I was impatient, because apparently my TotK order through Walmart "got lost" (more likely stolen) before it ever even got a shipping #. I was waiting for nothing today.

Only an hour or so in, so not much in terms of impressions, but so far I really like how they handled the crafting (item combining) interface. It doesn't feel too cumbersome while still allowing a lot of freedom.

Got about an hour in. Wasn't a fan of the intro, let me play ffs. I guess they're trying to appease the "WHERE'S THE STORY" crowd. But once I finally dropped into the world I had a good time. The crafting mechanic takes a bit of getting used to, still don't feel comfortable/fluid using it but hopefully it feels more natural with a bit more play time.

Also got a clip of me headshotting a running bird behind a tree right after getting the bow. Maybe I can find a way to post it. Hanzo God

Yeah Zelda being Captain Exposition was a bit much, no doubt about it, but once out of the way it's all good. Very pleased with what I see so far - movement feels good, the art style covers up the Switch's shortcomings well, and the new bits are good fun.

Only encountered one slight bug with the physics so far. On an island trying to traverse a large body of water - can't find anything to use as a sail so the raft is out, thought fuck it I'll join logs and have them ram up against the fence at the edge, bring another log along with me to swap onto, move the original loooong log and carry on. Fell off the log and got trapped under it underwater stuck in the log. Annoying but one of those things.

Cute anecdote:

My 10 year old son (who lives in a different city), whom I started playing Zelda:BotW with five years ago is just having a video call with me, showing me how he starts TotK, because that's what I did with him all that years ago (even waited until I came home from work today).

❤️

I found a premade raft near a steward and carried it around all clever like "ha I can use this for the surely upcoming water section and not have to build my own, I'm so clever!", but then I placed it on top of one of those floating platforms, without spoiling the comical event that followed... don't do that guys.

I'm having great fun to far, I can see how the crafting thing can go a long way and become very complex, I'm kicking myself because I messed up the re-uniting the korok friends side quest, I just left the top one there and went down to talk to the other one and half way down the rail I thought... I'm supposed to bring him aren't I 😖, oh well I'll go back and get him once I have the other abilities

Had fun collecting some hot-footed frogs, will make them into speed potions once I meet some monsters. How exactly does the cookbook work? You see the overarching general recipe and then every variation you ever make it contained within it or theres a limit on the "history"

Its cool that if you put the boulder on your shield instead of the weapon a shield bash will smash the towers down in one hit instead of multiple weapon strikes, feels more epic

Managed to get the Collectors Edition box set, solid bunch of products. It's sold out everywhere, but I guess on launch night or day before some places were receiving shipments just in time for their customers. Can't wait to play some more and explore this strange new upper region of Hyrule

The input lag is high in TotK coming off the back of Jedi Survivor running at 30fps, I wonder if the decreased system lag of PS5 + Dualsense vs. Switch + Joy-Cons makes that much difference or its purely the engine. I'd imagine Jedi is doing more (but not tons, its sacrifices animation quality for responsiveness a lot) blending than Zelda so its con

I'm a dickhead I just remembered that my TV has 20ms higher input lag at 1080p than 2160p, so its just that, doh! I want to get that Switch "4K upscaler with AA", because you can run that device without the "anti-aliasing" effect to just get a 2160p signal and thereby reduce the display lag, but its like £100, fuck that!

Off-topic: Fudge I need an SD card, had to delete basically everything to fit Zelda on there, not sure whats actually taking up the space 🤔 Can I just order any one or need a certain speed/class? My Switch got stolen and I forgot to ever buy a new SD card because I've bought most of my games physically since then.

Did you feel a strong kinship with Zelda in the intro? She went full lore-whore!

A terrible representation of its true majesty but yes, what TV(s) do you have?

Played acouple of hoyrs today at work, still in the beginning. But loving it! I like the
fusing of items and weapons, they seem to be rather durable, which was my main gripe!

I would say play Breath of the Wild first, but there's probably a reason you haven't played it up until now, so... maybe not? Maybe neither?

Simply too much to play in the few years I've been on PC. Loved OoT back in the day. Got Breath and Tears ready to go. 4k 60 fps :D

I have played most of the day. It doesn't change up the BOTW formula too much, but still manages to be addicting. My only gripe is still having weapons break. I don't mind the concept itself, but things still break way too easily.

Agree with weapons breaking it's still the dumbest action-breaking decision Nintendo ever went with and I can't see any good reason for it
