Official Thread
Off-topic: Fudge I need an SD card, had to delete basically everything to fit Zelda on there, not sure whats actually taking up the space 🤔 Can I just order any one or need a certain speed/class? My Switch got stolen and I forgot to ever buy a new SD card because I've bought most of my games physically since then.
The Nintendo partnership SD cards have transfer speeds of 100 MB/s so I'd say basically any MicroSD card with a transfer speed of that or higher would be compatible. They have so many little icons on the SD cards these days but the transfer speed is the main issue.

One thing I have found neat is there have been a few puzzles I finished that had me saying "ehhhh, don't think it was suposed to work like that". I have probably solved a few things different from most people, and I am sure others have solved puzzles in weird ways too.

I hated BOTW. It was tedious and dull with terrible mechanics. I played it again fairly recently not on switch and it was better that I could tweak it and get better performance.

This game tho…is just so much more refined. Quality of life changes like if your inventory is full and you find a chest it will bring up a menu to drop another weapon. The inventory menu is a lot smoother and organized.

The mechanics tho. Easily the most fun I've had in a while. I've had more fun with this in 2 hours than like 40 in botw. Building ridiculous things is a ton of fun. Traversing the environment is so much nicer this time. No needing to climb every inch and pray your stamina will hold. Just build something to help you up.

Fusing is a ton of fun and you can make some funny looking weapons. My Fiancé and I were playing next to each other on the couch and it turned into a competition to see who could find more things in the starting area before the other. And also competing to build ridiculous things.

My girl is a Zelda fanatic. She sold her oled for the Zelda Oled. She bought the case, a standard copy of the game, two collectors editions, Zelda pro controller, amibos etc. this house is gonna be Zelda non stop for a while.

The way he waves his hand, lol:

To be fair, the weird way he's waving and holding the sword is exactly how Link looks when I am trying to use Skyward Sword motion controls. That's some commitment to the cosplay!

On the game, I am surprised at just how good the ultra hand and fuse abilities actually are. Really fun to use and on the first area at least it's neat to figure out how to get a round and what's possible le when fighting enemies.

Don't think the starting area is nearly as good as BOTWs great plateau. Not as impressive to look at visually. Though the traversal and combat are a bit more fun I just don't think it measures up to BOTW in the beginning.

Gonna be interesting to get down to Hyrule field and see how the new abilities work there.

Turns out in the end that it's not the same shrines and not the same map as BOTW which only makes me wonder about the motivations of people who tried to insist that it was the same as BOTW or that it was "lazy DLC". Maybe just trolling.

On the topic of review bias, maybe it's time to consider that Nintendo just has an ability to produce these top tier videogames that comes from years of experience of pitching a game perfectly at the right audience. Same as Rockstar and From Software.

At a time where its difficult to tell who some games are even supposed to be aimed at, like Forspoken and Redfall or even going back to things like Anthem, and when some games don't even run properly on the best available hardware, like Jedi Survivor and Cyberpunk, it feels pretty good to get a game that's just aimed right at me and that's also a ton of fun to play.

Fantastic OT by the way. Amazing job.

Ok, even knowing everything that happens the sheer amount of stuff to do once you actually get back to Hyrule and the settlement in Hyrule field is mind-boggling.

How's the raytracing.

Havent got round to any mods yet. Seems like there is quite a bit. Like full new expansions for Breathe of the Wild that adds towns etc, and mods that change gameplay mechanics.

All I will probably install is mods to max out the draw distance and vegetation and adds RT. Obviously nothing for Tears yet. Seemed quite stable in 4k to say it is day 2.

I noticed that Eurogamer, who have recently switched to a star rating system, gave the game four out of five stars, which I thought was interesting. The game not getting the full five / 100% has already racked up 400+ comments under the review:

Can you DM me a TOTK emu for Dummies

Decided to start with the first one. Switch version has 4k and 60fps mods only with better draw distances than the Wii U. Wii U version however has tons of options for ray tracing, graphic mods, expansions and even further draw distances.

I kind of just wanted to stay on the Switch emulator as I worry Kingdom might seem like a down grade graphically, but still testing out the wii version with all the graphic (but no content changes) to see the difference for myself.

Got up to the first dungeon thing I believe. So far I like it, seems relaxing.

I'm really enjoying the game so far but the release came with a downward shift in my mental health I wasn't ready for, not sure whether to put it aside until I feel a bit better or not. I'm enjoying dipping in for an hour or so, playing some Jedi Survivor on the side maybe I should just be happy with that.

In my experience if you can focus on just the game, play it now, if your trying to do/think about multiple things then wait. 😊

When you give people great power what do they do?

Games are a great escape when life is shit, and Zelda is chill enough to not frustrate you too much (which is what you need in those times I find).

Technically im in the wrong game... but im not far from you guys.

Here's max settings 4k, 300% Shadow distance, 16x AF, Max draw distance, 2x menu speed, Ultra vegetation etc etc. I get between 90-100 fps (click on photo for full quality).

Hudson monopoly!! I'm lost and I love it! Not really lost! But some of this old map feels new!

I'm just going around shrine hunting, getting a feel of the combat it's been a year since I played BoTW.

Gotten point that I'm using rewind on the falling objects to help find shrines and explore Hyrule again!

When I initially jumped in a few weeks back on the emulator I was a bit jaded with what I saw but fuck man does this game keep giving more and more.

I was doing the Shrine/Tower run but then I got hooked into the Geoglyphs which is what is fueling my gameplay at the moment.

I just felt totally fucking stupid with the shrines like I couldn't figure it out at all and when I'd cheat and look it up the answer was so fucking simplistic. Now I've gotten the hang of it with creativity and can solve most everything on my own

I'm determined to clear out the map prior to hitting any big story point

Almost 10 hours in and it still feels like I haven't made any progress ... and yet it feels so satisfying to just conquer this world bit by bit ... "conquering" meaning to find and finish a shrine/outpost and thus create a way to quickly travel between places. TotK, like BotW, really has the most realistic world scale I've seen in video games. Last night I saw a point on my map, looked where I was headed: a valley, on the other side steep walls, probably too high for my stamina. Decided to take it safe and just walk the regular path in a left-circle around to it. Well, that "just walk around" actually was a massive journey, including more than one shrine, caves and cold weather setting in. lol.

Regarding shrines, I've had to look up the solution for 2 of them so far. One was me not having realized what I can do in this game (I still keep forgetting about the "up-travel" ability), but the other one was really unfair imo and I think a lot of people will need a solution for that one, spoiler:

You have to get to a lower level. How do you do it? By running into a laser which triggers a pitfall. The good player I am, I'd always avoid laser traps, ofc. I'd never have tried solving a puzzle by running into a damaging obstacle. Weird one.

Anyway, great game. It is very much "more of the same", though. The perfect example that a friend of mine used really is: This is a Super Mario Galaxy 2-situation. Highest quality, chock full of creativity and fun, better in every way than its predecessor. But not truly a new, fresh experience.

Turns out this runs on the steamdeck. I guess I know what my next project is.

Be warned - I've found the Deck great for lots of things but Switch emulation can have frame rate issues. Mario Odysssey ran too slowly, not perhaps immediately obvious but enough to impact gameplay such that I was missing jumps etc.

Emulation does what Nintendon't.

Now add the RTGI shader hehe. Modded maxed Zelda looks pretty good, I was surprised. New Hardware please, Nintendo.

I havent even touched ray tracing as it requires a few more hoops than I can be bothered with. Still look at all these options, I've seen PC ports with less options. My first thought is Regawdless would love this, when I saw all the reshade options lol.

For the first time in years I decided to read a review. It's not bad at all. Highlights the good and the not so good, and I feel like it's given me a pretty good impression of what the game will be like to play.

The comments aren't nearly as bad as you make it seem, most of them from what I saw are positive ones or in-jokes about EG itself. Barely any 4★ bitching.

People are well entitled to their opinions and I don't actually think "review bombing" is a terrible thing. If people have an issue with a consumer product then let them complain.

What I do hate though is people who seem to think that criticism itself is above criticism. It's possible to have a bad take on something and really irrational or just flat out wrong takes should not be defended with "it's just my opinion". Fuck that.

Pretty obvious that there is a decent number of gamers who for some reason cannot handle the existence of great Nintendo games. I get that the hardware is old, I get that the graphics are not the best, I even get that this is like the hundredth Zelda game or whatever but a good game is a good game and that's just the end of it.

If I pay $70 for a product on Friday morning and I get a ton of enjoyment all Friday afternoon and evening then I basically leap out of bed Saturday morning to neglect all of the shit I am supposed to be doing and keep on enjoying said product for the next 10 hours or so then that's a bloody good purchase.

It's funny then to have people who want to come along and say "no here's why you shouldn't like that thing that you like!"

A lot of gamers seem far more interested the tech than the actual games. That's fine but also its funny when they react badly to seeing people enjoying a game running on older or weaker tech.

I can't lie, I've been tempted this morning to run into town and get a Switch OLED and this. But I will hate myself if Nintendo ever release better hardware, especially as I'm not chomping at the bit to get into the Switch's library.

Get the game and then emulate it if its a legal consideration? :)
