Get the game and then emulate it if its a legal consideration? :)

Don't you need an actual physical Switch, in order to emulate? When I spent a few mins researching how to emulate BotW on my SD, everyone was talking about needing to use your Switch's ... unique ID number or some such? A number which is bound to your hardware.

Depends if we're talking letter of the law or not. It's easy to not have a Switch let's put it that way. Even legally you know Nintendo would disapprove so yolo....

I don't know if my PC is capable enough to be of real benefit, the i5 4690k is a bit aged at this point

I run a 4670 - I can run most things at 1080 with a 1660 Super, no RT obviously, so while outdated it's a perfectly usable bit of kit. When I've tried the Switch emulator on it it's not bad but still drops some frames and stutters a bit on Mario Kart.

Some decent progress has already been made in the first couple of weeks, but I don't think it's worth the hassle yet unless you're prepared to deal with issues that weigh the experience down. That's a niche audience. It's a night and day difference to the emulated Wii U version of BotW. TotK shares some of the same emulation issues as BotW did back in early 2017 like the game going into slow motion or super speed (shrines), stuttering, textures not loading, crashes, etc.

I had/have an easier time tolerating that crap because I wanted that completely unspoiled experience exploring the world for the first time. I didn't even acquire the shrine sensor until I had already completed 80 of them.

The game's been slightly more challenging than it needed to be because I avoided most of the story-related content up until now, everyone will understand what I mean soon enough if they don't already, but I don't have any regrets whatsoever. Those complaining about Switch's performance issues may have an easier time understanding why Nintendo couldn't quite jump over that hurdle when they see the rewards for completing that content.

First @Zeta Dragoon & @Black Chamber a belated congratulations on a stunning OT. Super professional and polished. You guys worked your butts off on this. Thank you!

I'm loving the artwork; the game is so pretty; it doesn't need to be 4K/60 when it is giving us a beautiful such world to explore. The game feels very similar to BotW, but I really loved that game so I'm enjoying this one so far. I just hope it isn't remain so similar that I get burned out.

I really don't know what to think about this game.

I think the gameplay is tedious, especially the hand/fuse crap, and the inventory system gets in the way of fun, fluid gameplay.

All signs point to me absolutely not liking this game. However, I can't stop playing it.

It's interesting how we all were expecting this to be a lazy update. I think we're way to used to these companies just making lazy updates and charging excessive charges for them for the sake of it. Nintendo here just released a full fledged update that made it worth paying for and it's reviewing well.

I'm getting that "been here done that" feeling with this game. I loved the shrines in BOTW but this time round I'm rushing through them. They just feel so samey.

I was quite disappointed with the Water Temple. I didn't even realise it was the Water Temple until I'd almost gotten to the end. The dugeons are definitely not like traditional Zelda dungeons which is quite disappointing. When I heard dungeons were back I was really excited.... I hope the other ones are a bit better.

Finished up the tutorial/sky plateau area and jumped down into Hyrule. Jumping out of the clouds and falling down to Hyrule while panning the camera around to take everything in was wonderful. I don't think that's going to get old, especially when you get things like sunsets and whatnot. First thing I found was those signs for Hyrule Restoration and some supplies, obviously encouraging you to try to build a vehicle. My attempt worked, but it really wasn't that practical. However, as I started getting closer to the castle I saw some carts which had been built and by taking a look at those, it gave me a few ideas on how to make the next vehicles work better. That's one thing I really loved about BotW, the showing instead of telling what to do and how to do it. I also liked getting into the village in front of the castle and seeing some familiar faces, giving you updates on things which have happened since BotW. Looking forward to go checking out some of those previously mentioned locations and seeing what has changed there.

It didn't help that Nintendo weren't exactly forthcoming with information!

I'm talking more about the first game, but I don't really get the big deal. Just seems super basic and more aimed at kids to me. Like for combat Elden Ring is far more engaging, for exploration Far Cry, Fallout or Skyrim and story the Witcher 3 is in a whole different league. Like I'm walking to places slowly in barren fields... I think its cool for parents to play with their kids though. Nintendo bump is real. If Zelda name wasn't attached to this feels like a 6/10.

Im trying not to tap out but I have gotten next to nowhere in 2-3 hours. Did a couple shrines but I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing at this point.

I keep wandering into things that seems to serve no purpose and wasting resources getting there.

I know it's a tired argument for BotW, but Jesus if I could just not have to manage every single fricken thing in my inventory and I could just explore...I'd be all over it.

Not even disagreeing, but it's aimed at kids. Well, it's aimed at "everyone", even my 62 yr old dad began playing it this last Christmas when he got a Switch and he's 100+ hours into it now

Same.

I wrote earlier today that I really didn't care for the game but couldn't stop playing it.

After a couple of hours more this afternoon, I'm ready to stop.

Everything about the game feels like a chore.

I think I'm done for now. Maybe I'll pick it back up in the future and give it another go

I think BOTW is a game where the complete package is significantly better than just the sum of its parts. The Witcher's story is absolutely great, but the world is almost completely static compared to the physics playground in BOTW. The individual pieces may not have been that impressive in a vacuum, but it was the way that the exploration, traversal, physics, and everything else fit together that made BOTW something special.

I kind of had that experience with BOTW. I wasn't really into it at first. Could find the groove. Everything felt like it took too long and I could get into the game. I picked it back up a couple months later and loved it. There is a certain momentum where the world starts to make sense and your travel gets more efficient.

And that's a great strength of the game for sure. Mario Kart 8 is similar and I love that. I think it's just I need a really strong story in my open world games to keep me invested.

I see what your saying but I kind of feel like that with the Witcher. Not in terms of physic or system interactions, but just walking around a village, sitting by a river watching the world go by. Its even better with the enhanced edition maxed out. For me its the detailed world that makes me want to explore it. It feels like virtually no copy and paste and very little "busy work".

Both great open world games I guess, just for very different reasons.

Wither 3 and BOTW are among the best games in their genre. Witcher 3 focused on story and world building while BOTW put the emphasis on exploration, traversal, and physics interactions. Both are great games in their own right, but they took such radically different approaches to the genre that they almost cannot be compared fairly with each other.

For what its worth, Tears of the Kingdom seems to have done a lot to shore up BOTW's weak points while doubling down on its strengths, but someone that is more interested in world building and a detailed story will undoubtedly still prefer Witcher 3 just as someone that prefers tight combat and individual combat set pieces/bosses will prefer Elder Ring over the other 2.

When dealing with the top of the quality, preferences are going to reign supreme.

So I just did the most amazing 1 hour+ climb in the
bird-area where the little guy accompanies you, up to the Wind
temple. Honestly, this climb could have gone on for another hour, just felt so satisfying to make meter after meter.

I've got a question, though, for those who did this, too:
Do I really need to buy the super expensive anti-cold armor for the Wind temple? Eating anti-cold food doesn't work and I keep draining my food to keep Link alive up there, lol. Any alternative to grinding rupees?

More like Lol-Take. Zelda is the complete package, that's the difference to all the games you mentioned.

What GPU do you have? This game is completely easy to render. There isn't much to the graphics engine.

Nvm: you are talking about running it on PC with RT.

Havent got round to any mods yet. Seems like there is quite a bit. Like full new expansions for Breathe of the Wild that adds towns etc, and mods that change gameplay mechanics.

All I will probably install is mods to max out the draw distance and vegetation and adds RT. Obviously nothing for Tears yet. Seemed quite stable in 4k to say it is day 2.
Ahh.. you guys can play this on PC using Dolphin?

Btw there's another topic we need to talk about:

(Spoiler from the tutorial area)

Sooo .... Zelda's ancestor was a furry and let herself get impregnated by Rauru, an animal-man. Did I understand that correctly?

For me the first game was made better by the fact that the clan dressed in red and trying to take you down were extremely similar to another cultist group in Deep Space Nine who were basically doing the same thing. I was watching Deep Space Nine for the first time while playing BOTW and it was surreal how basically the same villain was in two completely unrelated fictional worlds.

You should do the build a house quest line in BOTW. That has around the same length of story as the main storyline itself.

I just took a break from that climb, but it's a great platforming challenge. I'm loving the partner mechanics, and the alternative routes with ascend are just great. It might be the best platforming section in an open world game that I've ever played. This section could have been the temple itself and I would have been satisfied. It's head and shoulders better than anything in BotW.

Did you play BOTW and feel the same way? I gave BOTW about 25 hours before I felt like you did with this one. I couldn't do it anymore. Everything felt disjointed to me. The world was empty and I couldn't stand the inventory management any longer.

I was thinking of getting this game because of the hype but I watched a couple gameplay vids and it looks too similar to BOTW. They even kept the same sound effects when discovering a new area or item and the same graphics for inventory items. I started to feel burnt out and I haven't even played it yet. I may sit this one out.

There is zero reason to play this if you felt BotW was disjointed. This feels far more disjointed imo.

It's very much a go and see what you can find with a lot of the discovery being nothing.

They did improve the korok seed hunts by having you solve puzzles instead of just lifting rocks half the time. But there is so much aimless wandering still.

I keep hearing it said around the Internet that this is "The greatest The Legend Of Zelda game of all time"...

...The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time will always be my number-one favorite Zelda game; but I gotta say, The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom is definitely in 2nd place - maybe even tied with Ocarina Of Time - which would put Twilight Princess in second place...not sure yet...gotta beat the game first💯

Did the first dungeon. My god, that was great and fun all around:

Spoiler for bird dungeon:

The dungeon itself was super fun, nothing frustrating, but lots of interesting puzzles. Then the boss fight came and wow, this was sooo fun. Normally, fights like these would have some frustrating element, but not so this one. Flying in the air, slamming an attack through one of its ice holes, getting some arrows in while it's passing you vertically, all while maneuvering in midair. So fun. And it was specifically exciting for me, because I literally used up my last anti-cold effect. The last bit I had to eat food to keep myself alive against the cold-effect, lol. So close.

This game just keeps giving and there's so much to do. I haven't even been in the underground since the first time, so that's waiting to be explored, too. Also the bird boy is super cute, more charismatic hero than Link ;>
