Thread: PlayStation 5 Pro Review Thread
There was surely some time pressure. But the vast majority of Pro patches turned out very good already. This one is an outlier, not great with all the grain and motion blur noise. I was surprised by how they released it despite these glaring issues.

Star Wars was a bad patch and silent hill a bad patch to. there is a fair few of them

Given how old the game is, how poised the Star Wars IP is and the fact this is EA we're talking about, I expect the patch was originally made by one dev with a week long deadline.

That would be the most positive case tbh but I think there were more people working on that game and that patch, still. Like we very recently had the last Gen versions, a new patch, now the Pro patch.

The thing is, they're actually just incompetent. Like, PC version still isn't fixed. Even when your fps are locked at 60, the game animations stutter because the internal logic is fucked.

And their first Jedi game has big traversal stutters to this day, I played it like a year ago. Never fixed any of it.

How do they release a patch like this without realizing it is completely busted.

It took me some time to get used to the game. Combat especially can be difficult to get a hang on.

Once I saw some wild combo Twitter clip, I was like "oh that's how I'm supposed to play it" and it clicked. Still not the best combat and the game has flaws, but I had a good time.

Yeah that's the gist I had gotten, possibly partially from your posts at the time haha. And that's ok with me. If it's grabbing me enough I will look up the tips and tricks

GT7 patch seems nice.

I'm not a ray tracing enthusiast in the slightest. How can I be, I'm a PS5 mainly gamer! But it looks good to me. So I'll be interested to see what the verdict ends up being. It is a game I was already playing and the difference with the patch is definitely noticeable. Evening races look great now.

Awesome to hear. That's a game I'd like to see on PC, sigh.

I decided to sell my XBox stuff to get a Pro for cheap. My XB was just hooked up to my TV in my gym so I could stream stuff since the TV is old and doesn't have wifi. I haven't really played many games on the Series X ever and everything comes out on PC anyways.

The packaging on the Pro is as cheap as can be. It doesn't really give off any sort of Premium experience. The transfer process was very quick since I moved my games to SSD and swapped that. Stellar Blade and FF7RB run and look great. I'd like to test a lot more stuff, but some thing I have on disc and have to wait until drives are available. Overall the system doesn't seem groundbreaking, but I will get more use out of it then my XB stuff so I think it is a good purchase. I think it is a good purchase for people just getting into PS5, but for existing users it probably isn't worth an upgrade in it's current form unless you can knock down the price a bit with trade in deals.

For the 2 games I have that do a good job with ray tracing, GT7 and F1. I definitely get that "new console" feeling playing those. Youtube videos just do not sell the quality on offer at all. The lighting has a real way of making the settings look natural. It made me think about when I had a PS2 but saw the Xbox demos running in store (way back when). Usually DOA was running, and was a quality that the PS2 was not matching. I see the PS5 to Pro upgrade being a similar sort of jump.

I may have the pro, but, I have been playing Darkest Dungeon and Street Fighter 6. Played a little Horizon remaster which looks great. But these racing games are something else altogether.

Definitely consider me a ray tracing convert. What it does for the presentation in games, I love it. Any game that offers it and keeps a decent enough frame rate going, I'm choosing that setting.

RT, when done right on hardware where it makes sense, can definitely be transformative. In some cases it's like a generational leap. You've seen the light, welcome to the cult, brother!

Watched the Stellar Blade Pro patch analysis, devs did a great job with the update, performance and stellar image quality.

Ok I'm actually actually gonna try GT7 VR tonight to see how great it looks on the Pro now.

Or, I will put the headset on and play No Mans Sky, take the headset off, and realize 3 hours just passed and I have to wind down haha

I'm envisaging you clambering through caves looking for that rare northern Hemisphere underground animal that is the last one to tick off in order to complete the planetary Survey. Because much like the Pokemon, you've gotta get them all.

get the fuck outta my head!!

So is it worth the price everyone?

The missus is reluctant to allow me to grab this at xmas.

Never bet against Polyphony Digital taking full advantage of new PlayStation hardware. John Linneman gets to grips with the PS5 Pro upgrade, examining the game's enhanced 'on track' ray tracing effects, PSSR upscaling, game-changing improvements to PSVR2 plus a look at performance across 4K 60fps and 120fps modes - along with the full breakdown on just how PS5 Pro copes with an 8K output mode. It's all here!

I think it is if it is your first PS5. An extra $200ish is worth it. If you have a regular PS5 to sell to put the money towards a Pro it may be worth it then if you really want 60fps and better graphics. Paying $700+ outright for one if you have a regular PS5 and are happy with it? Probably not worth it in that situation. The improvements really are not huge yet, so in any situation you'd have to be ok with buying into the potential of the system rather then what is there right now.

Not my first PS5. In Australia, the prices are ridiculous.

PS5 Slim Digital Normal Price $679
PS5 Slim Digital Current Discount Price $549

PS5 Slim Disc Normal Price $799
PS5 Slim Disc Current Discount Price $629

PS5 Pro $1199

So PS5 Pro is almost double the digital at standard prices. Its a big ask.
