Thread: PlayStation 5 Pro Review Thread
Seems like a pretty cool system and a decent upgrade. I probably won't get one with the 5090 on the horizon but happy for all you dudes enjoying it. If any of you have Gran Turismo let me know how much better it looks

I'm sitting here chuckling at the comments over the increased resolution in these games and remembering all the arguments that "resolution is barely noticeable", or "resolution isn't important enough to visuals", etc...

Imagine all these games people are just now seeing at higher res and them being seen like this for nearly a decade on a PC.

Can't wait for future consoles to finally be strong enough for full RT features like RTXGI or Path Tracing..

I think the target audience is noticing and appreciating it. The ones who always said resolution isn't important and games look good enough, didn't buy a Pro and aren't here gushing over it.

I like that the Pro has some impact, and that more people talk about resolution and image quality again.

Absolutely. And get this, all you had to do was remove your bias towards the hardware and open your eyes to notice the BIG obvious difference that a higher resolution frame can clear up all the noise from low-resolution frames.

Can't wait for more games to implement it. Consoles will catch up when the technology is ubiquitous and cheap enough, which is always the role consoles have served in the market

When we get raytraced 3D Mario on the Switch 3 for (equivalent after inflation) $300 we'll know it's here to stay.

So far I've only played FFVII Rebirth and Rise of the Ronin, but both games finally have good image quality while also running well! That's what I signed up for, so I'm rather pleased.

With that said, if image quality isn't bothering you, then it's probably not worth the upgrade!

Even on PC the audience that notices and/or cares about resolution is minuscule.

The change over from 1080p being the most common resolution for PC gaming only just happened this year, and even then it's only gone up to 1440p as the norm, with 1080p still being a very close second most common.

4K becoming 'the norm' comes entirely from consoles, due to TV's switching to that.

As I always have to remind people that treat high end gaming and ultra graphics as the norm that everyone desires above all things, integrated graphics are far more commonly used than high end GPU's, just as the Switch handily outsold both the PS4 and still outsells the PS5.

Also I am surprised to see the PS5Pro is still in stock basically everywhere.

I can not only get one delivered tomorrow from Amazon, it's actually in stock in the two local stores nearest to me I can check it's a availability in.

I remember when the PS4Pro came out I couldn't get one for a couple of months, so either they overproduced this time around, or demand is not what it used to be.

I can agree with that since people with consoles don't have to do much but set the switch and forget.

I would also agree on PC gamers still using low res but NOT for AAA gaming. Most PC players are still stuck in the 90s or play Indie games. For the ones that are playing modern games like us -- we've been playing at 4k for a while now.

The latter. The console is retarded, hence the availability.

Scalpers am I cry.

Thanks to Sony providing a good supply of consoles, all the scalpers are losing money now because nobody buys their eBay offerings unless they're a bit cheaper than at the official stores.

Aye. With my work eBay discount I could get one for under 600 quid.

I don't need one, but my love of a bargain makes it tempting…

Now I gotta sell my launch PS5 and the ebay prices aren't great. And Gamestop is offering jack shit. But at least it'll cover a big chunk of the Pro cost in the end.

What is PS4 Image Enhancement on PS5 Pro? Is AI upscaling involved? Does it make last-gen games look good enough on 4K displays? Does it work on all PS4 titles and if not, why not? We went into this one with a LOT of questions... and Oliver Mackenzie is here to deliver the answers, tested across a massive range of games.

The pro is always my "I don't know what I was expecting" console. I honestly think I sit too far from my TV to notice half of the differences. It just becomes a scenario where any little extras are appreciated. A few more frames, a splattering of rudimentary ray tracing. I'll take it. I probably use my PS5 more days through the week than not. And given I am settled into the PS ecosystem, I may as well use the better console that they offer.

When I got the PS4 pro, I upgraded to a 4k TV the same day. So the change going from PS4 to pro was a little more distinct. But even after a week or 2, it just felt like I was using the base PS4 again. I don't know what I was expecting 😊

Plusses tho. It is far more quiet than my slim. And the extra storage is welcomed. I don't have any complaints about the console.

I'm looking forward to the GT7 patch the most.

Ok I'm happy. I can see clear differences in visual quality. Tried a few games today and the jump is bigger than commonly sourced internet videos tend to show.

Machine is still practically silent throughout. I'm glad I upgraded.

It's winning a one horse race. Not exactly surprising. Currently in stock on UK Amazon.

Not really. You still have the Switch, the smorgasbord of Xbox sku's, the welfare ps5. There's tons of other options out there, so it's at least somewhat interesting that the most expensive of them all is currently #1 best selling in so many countries.

All of those have been out for years. Most people who want one have already bought one. Only one console released this month so obviously it's going to sell relatively well. I say relatively because it's still in stock everywhere.

Being in stock or not isn't really saying much. PS5 Amateur has been selling very, very well after the first supply chain crisis. After that, wasn't out of stock but selling like hot cakes.

Supply for Pro seems very good, and it seems to sell well at the same time. There shouldn't be supply issues with a mid gen update console.

I'll reserve judgement until I see some actual numbers.

This. Keep in mind it's a console that's aimed to capture a niche audience. It'll be a success if it'll make up 15% or more of all PlayStation 5 sales from now on.

It's not all about pure sales numbers, a halo product also elevates the base product, gets people talking about PlayStation as a whole, creating excitement around the brand etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if base console and game sales would see a boost as well. It's all about the growth of their ecosystem.

the psvr2 was the number seller in multiple countries Amazon on launch......and look how that turned out

Fair point. I still think we can't compare a Pro console with VR, very different products and value propositions.

PS5 Pro is apparently selling slightly better than the PS4 Pro in the same time frame so far.

The last time I bought a new GPU, I could barely even enjoy what it was doing until the company that made the GPU announced how many of them were sold.

The number wasn't as high as I hoped so I sold it. I'm not gonna play anything with improved performance unless I know I'm on a winning team!!

I have never screenshotted a game as much as HZD. I need to play Forbidden West.

It looks really fantastic, like I was surprised by how nice and crisp and clean it is.

But holy fuck is it BORING. I just wanted to run around hunting robodinos for a little bit but I was stuck in a story segment and every minute of it is agony. I can't stand the "we will give you zero clue what to do in this big open room, so just run around feeling retarded for 20 minutes while looking at the assets we spent all this time and money on" formula.

That is unbelievable. It really shouldn't be esp. considering the economy

Ps5 pro is 56% more expensive than the base model where as ps4 pro cost the same as when the ps4 launched and it was a bigger gpu improvement compared to 5 pro.

Over the long term I would be surprised if ps5 pro didn't sell worse than 4 pro

I'm thinking of picking up a Pro in the next month or so, so I'm glad to hear they're still in stock. You guys have any good gaming advise for someone who hasn't been paying attention to anything Sony-related since last gen?
