Thread: Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2
OK. So let's compare.
PS5 Pro is $700.
I can play my already owned games on it so thats nice.

Switch 2 with MK World bundle is $500.
DK Bananza is $80.
Metroid Prime 4 let's say $80 too. (My preference might actually be the new Hyrule Warriors)
With my $40 left over maybe I'll pay $20 for the online for my cloud saves and MK multiplayer.
Then with my final $20 I'll upgrade BOTW and maybe have a replay on Hero Mode and see what that Zelda app is all about.

So with my $700 I could have a brand new PS5 Pro with no games but I can replay all of my already played games with better performance or graphics. The most powerful game console of all time. No exclusive games though to really get me hyped for my new $700 console.

Backlog not really relevant since spending money on games you don't even play is far, FAR, stupider than spending $80 on a game that you will actually play.

With the same $700 I can get a shiny brand new Nintendo Switch 2, three brand new exclusive games, my online pass and an upgrade on a previously played game and of course all my Switch 1 games are there to be played if I am bothered to replay them.

As someone who does actually play games (you cunts :):ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:) I find that Nintendo is ultimately offering me better value for money.

Don't forget to add $80 for a disc drive for people whose library is physical. Plus $30 for a stand, which the Switch 2 has built in.

I think the main point is that the price discussion needs to be put in perspective. Would I like to spend less money? Sure. Do I think Nintendo is screwing us all over by raising these prices? Not really. They're a business. They need to make money to be successful and their success allows them to be the only company solely focused on console video games. There is some give and take there. Ultimately $10-$20 more for their games doesn't make that much difference to me because I'm not buying 20 games a year. I'm buying maybe 5-8. I understand that isn't everyone's situation and people are not wrong for being unhappy when prices go up. I just think the level to which people are complaining sometimes gets carried away.

I don't really have a horse in this race.

But I am not sure what the value proposition is here, when most people already have machines at home that can easily output what the Switch2 can do, and most already have those 3rd party games that are being shown here. And that for cheap.

Games on Nintendo platforms rarely get price reductions, and coupled with now higher costs, it's a bit of a premium console instead of the thing you buy for your kids.

Its Nintendo games. People buy Nintendo machines for Nintendo games. And if you want the newest Nintendo games you have to buy switch 2. Sometimes it works like NES Wii and Switch. Sometimes it doesn't like GameCube and WiiU.

And the hardware itself is a big upgrade. Bigger screen and i think it might be the biggest in handheld space. 10x the Switch 1 with RT and DLSS support and 12GB of RAM 4k output. 120hz HDR and VRR support in docked and handheld. Mic game chat better joyous and kickstand. Faster memory cards and more storage. Its a way better machine for Nintendo games.

And I do agree it's more premium than the Switch 1. One youtuber that went hands on said it was the grown up version and feels less like a toy.

Will it sell we will see. Nintendo never has 2 dominant consoles in a row.

This. I was kinda shocked by how the power situation turned out; I think we'd all kind assumed it would be really underpowered still and that isn't the case at all. The only thing we've heard nothing about that is giving me a little concern is battery life…

Still, assuming the battery life is reasonable, I'm 100% sold on the hardware and the games. I really don't have much to complain about.

It changed Xbox's plans for the Xbox One after it was revealed. Just sitting back and taking it certainly won't change anything.
At the time no one was ready for always online DRM checks. Kinect being needed and camera always on spying on you.

And this! The no sharing disaster!

Edit: WTF why that gif got put in your quote!!

Switch 2 game file sizes:

Mario Kart World: 23.4 GB
- Donkey Kong Bananza: 10.0 GB
- GameCube Nintendo Classics: 3.5 GB
- Super Mario Jamboree Switch 2 Edition: 7.7 GB

Cyber Punk confirmed 64GB.

Game share looks like such a low frame mess on their streams. I can't believe Nintendo thought that this level of frame rate was acceptable for game share. I would have just cancelled this feature if this is the best it can be.

Whoa, wait, gameshare actually streams the game over wifi to the 'client' devices instead of letting the people sharing install the game? I guess I get the practical challenges of the latter (download times, whatever), but the former does not sound like a great idea if that's what they're doing...

I think it's the later but I was talking about the gamechat feature of gameshare. The framerate and resolution is so bad I wouldn't even bother with it.

Now compare it to the regular PS5 instead of the pro and don't forget the new memory card because the Mario Kart pack in is a download. You may want to include a Pro controller but the rest of the accessories are not necessary.

No. I'll compare the newest console from Sony vs the newest from Nintendo.
I don't need to include a Pro Controller because it's not necessary.
Switch 2 has plenty of space for my MK World, DK Bananza and Metroid 4 purchases so I'm good there too.

If my budget is $700 then I can get more out of my $700 from Nintendo's newest offering than I can from Sony's newest.

Ya i have no idea what's up with the video chat stuff it's horrible bad like 2010 bad.

The Switch 2 is much closer hardware wise to the PS5, not the Pro. You only want to use the Pro to benefit your comparison.

PS5 - $499.99
PS5 game - $70

$570

Switch 2 Bundle - $499.99

No extra games or accessories

$500

So a $70 savings but Playstation first party game have better sales.
The PS5 comes with a normal controller so if you want a normal controller for the Switch 2, that will eat up that $70

Switch 2 is expensive enough to be in direct competition with Playstation and Xbox. How does it compare hardware wise?

Isn't discless version 399? I see slim is 449 and 499 on bestbuy. So it's basically the same price but no screen and not portable.

Your almost comparing apples to oranges

I mean if you don't like Nintendo games and protable gaming a PS5 is probably a better buy especially if you get PS Plus. But if you want portability than you can't really compare the two and in the end the PS5 isn't that much cheaper and if you want the best version that runs games alot better your paying 700 or more.

Ok but add the price of a 8 inch LCD HDR 120 hz screen and a battery pack because you gotta make your ps5 portable some how.

I figure that's gonna run you and extra 500$ or more so ps5 portable version DIY is probably closer to 1000$

Pretty sure comparing console to console that both play some of the same games is fair comparison. As for the TV, if you don't already have one, you aren't going to be buying the PS5 anyway. I mean who the fuck doesn't already have a TV?

Switch 2 bundle is $499.99 for Console and MK9.
So that's console and 1 game. Not "no games".

PS and Xbox are handheld so that's immediately a mark against them that can't be overcome with the quality of games or comparing if games run well enough. The number of games I can play portable on PS5 or Series X is zero.

"Oh but want if you don't want to use handheld mode!"

Look at you trying to move the goalposts around!

That's why I used PS5 Pro as the comparison. Let's cut the shit and ask how the newest Steam Deck and Playstation offering measures up to the newest Nintendo offering.

You are the one floundering around trying to move the goalposts to fit your argument and even then you can't make it fit.

PS5 is $500 with no game and no option for handheld.
Switch 2 is the newest console on the market and for $500 I can get it plus their newest flagship game bundled in and I can play it docked or on the go, nice!

Why wouldn't I want the newest and best PS5 on the market though? $700 with no games. Great!
I can go for a new Switch 2 with 3 games for less than that so suddenly the $80 games don't seem so bad.

We are so obviously heading for $100 base games anyway. Isn't the pricing on some of the newer AAA FOMO editions up above $100 at this point?

I wasn't trying to argue that Switch 2 is better by the way. I am extremely happy with both Switch and PS5 and will get a Switch 2 down the line when there's a few more options that I like.

Pretty big item to just pass over there.

Yes, I know the bundle comes with Mario Kart, that's why I didn't figure an extra game into the calculations.

It's true, PS5 is not a handheld.

There was no reason to use the PS5 Pro instead of the PS5. Atleast in my calculations I used the PS5 that plays physical games. Newest model doesn't matter when PS5's are still on the store shelves and play games just fine and are still superior to the Switch 2 hardware wise.

PS5 does come with that Astro demo thing which was pretty long. Nintendo wants to charge for their demo.

What? Yes some of the PS5 third party games are coming to Switch 2 and this allows for direct comparison. What the fuck is wrong with that comment?? Damn!

It's exactly comparing apples to oranges.
Except it's comparing apples to oranges and then declaring "but I don't like apples anyway so oranges are better."

That's the goalposts moving again.
AstroBot was a 3 hour experience tops.
The Nintendo demo thing is a joke and they deserve the ridicule for that.

Not going to pretend that Astro's Playroom bundled in is the same as MK World bundled in.

The bottom line is that even when you factor in the $80 games Nintendo's newest and best offering is better value that the newest and best offering from Playstation and Steam Deck.

You wanted a comparison and I gave you one but then you are shifting the goalposts over and over trying to make your point but it doesn't work.

Plus and maybe most importantly, it you buy the Switch 2, you'll have new games being released for it. Same can't be said about the Pro. Most people I know with Pros spend their time frame counting old PS4 games. Sounds like fun, huh?

Oh this is ridiculous. We can't even compare consoles to each other anymore?

Sure and that is exactly why I kept it simple and compared Nintendo's newest on the market versus Sony's newest and kept it as simple as what can you actually get with a $700 budget because that the cost of the higher priced console.

$700 gets me Sony's newest. $660 gets me Nintendo's newest and three games. Those $80 games not looking so bad from that angle.

You then introduced PS5 so it really becomes what can you get for a $500 budget but it's not Sony's newest console so they get a pass there for some reason. To suit your argument, I guess. Even then, $500 gets me the base PS5 which won't run my games as well as the PS5 Pro but also I get no game with it. $500 gets me the brand new Nintendo console on launch day with their biggest and newest game included in the package.

One is portable the other isn't. That's a huge difference.

I mean if you don't care about portable play your probably better off getting a ps5 or if you just want Switch 2 dock level get a series s that's the cheapest option. Unless you have to play Nintendo games.

The whole reason someone would buy a Switch 2 is because it's portable (and Nintendo games). If you just want TV play for COD Elden Ring EA sports etc... than ya a series s or discless PS5 makes more sense.

If you want a handheld system then a ps5 or Xbox is useless even if they were 99 dollars

Ya its not ps5 level. I think it's probably a bit below series s but it does have more RAM. It is definitely above ps4 and pa4pro. Metroid 4 is not running 4k60 or 1080 120 on a ps4pro.

Also, you can barely play Cyberpunk on PS4 and certainly can't play the DLC. Which Is on the Switch 2.
