Thread: Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2
OK. So let's compare.
PS5 Pro is $700.
I can play my already owned games on it so thats nice.

Switch 2 with MK World bundle is $500.
DK Bananza is $80.
Metroid Prime 4 let's say $80 too. (My preference might actually be the new Hyrule Warriors)
With my $40 left over maybe I'll pay $20 for the online for my cloud saves and MK multiplayer.
Then with my final $20 I'll upgrade BOTW and maybe have a replay on Hero Mode and see what that Zelda app is all about.

So with my $700 I could have a brand new PS5 Pro with no games but I can replay all of my already played games with better performance or graphics. The most powerful game console of all time. No exclusive games though to really get me hyped for my new $700 console.

Backlog not really relevant since spending money on games you don't even play is far, FAR, stupider than spending $80 on a game that you will actually play.

With the same $700 I can get a shiny brand new Nintendo Switch 2, three brand new exclusive games, my online pass and an upgrade on a previously played game and of course all my Switch 1 games are there to be played if I am bothered to replay them.

As someone who does actually play games (you cunts :):ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:) I find that Nintendo is ultimately offering me better value for money.

Only MK is $80, DK is $70. Only reason Kirby/MP $80 is because enhance and DLC.

Looks like preorders are on hold in the US now while they re-evaluate the price.

From what little I know, I thought Nintendo was switching to Vietnam for production to avoid Chinese tariffs, but then the reciprocal tariffs came out, so now Vietnam faces tariffs too.

But, I could have sworn I read that Vietnam was eliminating their tariffs on us, thereby getting the reciprocal tariff of 0% from the US? Maybe it's not official yet or maybe I'm just remembering wrong.

Trump said Vietnam is negotiating to get the tariffs removed. It sounds like they're fishing for a 3 month stay on the tariffs in order to do that.

Also, you can barely play Cyberpunk on PS4 and certainly can't play the DLC. Which Is on the Switch 2.

I actually played it on PS4 lol. I am sure it will be better than the ps4 version but it will be interesting how it compares to the series s and Xbox one pro version.

I watched a video today that alleges the Switch 2 runs Cyberpunk better than Steam Deck.

The steam deck version is more customizable since it's PC so you could tinker with.options.
Also are we talking docked or handheld. Cuz on the deck the screen is 800p. Switch you can go from 1080p to 4k. So if it's running 40fps at 900 to 1080 that's different than running it at 720p on the deck.
I said in the other post the more interesting comparison would be series S vs Switch 2 docked.

The price whining is getting absurd. Games have been $60 for like 2 decades. Anyone who expected them to stay there forever isn't paying attention to everything else in their life getting more expensive. If you buy 10-20 games a year, you're looking at between $100-400 more a year. Or you can buy 2-4 fewer games that will largely make up the difference.

I would have to disagree. What did DVDs cost in 2000? 30 bucks. What do they cost now? 70, 80 bucks? Nope. But Avatar 2 cost 450 million to make, and people loved the first one, they could charge 80 bucks for the 4k DVD!! Nah, 20 bucks. AND, you get to own a physical copy. An OG XBOX cost 300 back in 2001 so obviously it costs around 600 now right? Nope, 500.....WITH 4K for the top tier model.

Tech and electronics is a different beast.

If you're saying that Xbox costing 300 then and 500 now strengthens your point, I guess we just disagree. A no one buys DVDs. They're a dying commodity. If you want video games to go the way of DVDs, I guess we have different perspectives. Also, movie tickets are twice the price they used to be.

How much does a movie ticket cost though ?
How much is Netflix today vs when it launched?
How much was a PS1 vs PS5?
How much was a ps4pro vs a ps5pro?
Oh and DVDs are a dead format lol. Sure they still sell them and blue rays but barely anyone actually buys them. Maybe if streaming wasn't a thing movie studios would charge 40 bucks a Blu-ray.
Great thing about gaming is you have so many options you can vote with your wallet. Don't like the price of Mario Kart then get gud at Fortnite cuz that's a free game. Go download an indy game for 20 bucks. If I want to watch superman or avatar 3 or fantastic four in cinemas I have to pay the price at the the theater with no option to watch if free to play vexause a whale consumer buys 10000$ worth of popcorn and nachos lol.

Well, I'm convinced. Nintendo is good and SHOULD charge 80 bucks. We should be lucky they don't charge 100. Shit, they're barely turning a profit as is, poor guys.

Listen, if their fucking games went on sale it wouldn't be a big deal. They don't, so it is. The "yOuR PoUR" argument is lame. Nintendo fleeces their audience like EA and 2k and gets no blowback because Nintendo fans will do anything to play their Bing Bing Wahoo games.

Nintendo Life preview seems to confirm the Switch 2's display is an edge-lit LCD, not a FALD (Full Array Local Dimming) LCD.

Of course they are greedy. They charged 150$ for an alarm clock in 2024 lol. Ya they juice as much as possible.
And they pay for it every second generation or so.
They juiced with N64 and carts and lost bigly to Sony. They got clobbered on WiiU. Nintendo gets anal raped usually after a massive success. 3DS had so much backlash they actually dropped the price and had a ambassador program.
Gamers have voted against Nintendo with their wallets many times since the NES.
If gamers don't see the value in the prices the Switch 2 will flop like the 64 and WiiU and next gen Nintendo will go back to gimmicks and release the Nintendo dildo. You shove the controller up your ass and control it with farts....

Nintendo makes games. I buy them if they're good. I don't if they're not. If I don't feel like it's worth it, I won't pay for it. I don't feel like this is complicated. It's not "haha, you're poor". It's just the price of things. If I pay $80 for a game that I play a lot, I don't feel like I'm getting a raw deal. Nintendo can probably get away with this more than most because they make games many people tend to put a decent amount of time into.

Pre orders delayed, price likely going up. lol This keeps getting better and better.

I'll be shocked if the price ultimately goes up. Would be a PR disaster for Nintendo. Blaming Trump will only go so far.

..and it will be Trump's fault BUT if people can't afford it or refuse to pay that much, it doesn't matter who is to blame.

I think there's an easier way to look at it from a gaming perspective.

If I had $300 dollars to spend on a new console and some games right now what could I realistically expect to get for my money?

2nd hand PS4 and a PS Plus subscription maybe? A cheapo PC set up made from 2nd hand components?

If the next Nintendo handheld was capped at $300 and the games were capped at $50 then realistically what does that console look like? Basically no graphical or performance updates on original Switch and same investment and budgets for games so no real upgrades there either.

What if the cap is $400 console and $60 games?

We know the upper limit is $700 console plus $120 FOMO edition of the newest AAA game plus online subscription, potentially more than one subscription, plus free to play games with lots and lots of chances to spend on cosmetics. So really it's not cheap to play the best of the best that home consoles have to offer.

What's a realistic upper limit for building a gaming PC from scratch. Something that would play AC Shadows with the best possible graphics and performance?

I guess in the age of GamePass and PS +, charging 80 bucks for a game is bonkalicious to me. I get it's good business for them, yay Nintendo, but Jesus Christ can they NOT shit on their fans for a minute?

I have NO prob with the $450 price on the system. I think it's still overpriced but whatever. But charging 80 for a game? Ooof. Yeah, inflation. I know everyone here is making heavy six figure salaries, but for many people, their salaries didn't match the inflation at all. A bizarre move by the Big N. But this whole reveal has been a disaster for them. The messaging is mixed like it was during the Wii U reveal and the pricing reveal landed with a thud. It will still sell out lol.

Correction! Alarmo is $100. How do I know?

I use it, it works great for singles! 🤣

Fuck that Wario laugh! It keeps waking me up! 🤣
