Thread: ELDEN RING |OT| One Ring To Rule Them All (Decent Internet Connection Recommended).
Official Thread
Japan's Computer and Entertainment Developer Conference (CEDEC) has announced Hidetaka Miyazaki as the recipient of its 'special award', basically the equivalent of a lifetime achievement award. Miyazaki joins a list of truly distinguished creators: the first recipient was Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, while others include Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii, Namco founder Masaya Nakamura, 'father of the PlayStation' Ken Kutaragi, and Sega's arcade god Yu Suzuki.

The citation for Miyazaki's special award reads as follows (this is an edited machine translation):

"Beginning with Demon's Souls, Miyazaki's consistently challenging game design continues to fascinate fans and break new ground within its own genre. FromSoftware's most recent game, Elden Ring, is a culmination of their previous work that also achieves quality and scale that greatly surpasses what had come before: the game has received extremely high praise from users all over the world and been a huge hit. Hidetaka Miyazaki has won numerous awards, and his titles have attracted admiration from both game players and game creators."

Elden Ring has been a wild success for FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco, and is certainly some sort of capstone on the Souls series. Its huge open world and vast array of bosses were a true feast at a time when there just weren't many other big games delivering that kind of spectacle, and it seems certain to scoop up countless game of the year awards come the end of 2022.

Elden Ring remains most active on PC, where the modding community has taken to it like a demigod to runes. Most recently this wag chopped down the giant Erdtree at the heart of the world to get an enormous performance boost, while elsewhere the game has birthed its own community legends. There's no news yet on any DLC for the game, though given its commercial success that seems inevitable, and if FromSoftware's past DLCs for the Souls series are any guide then expectations should be high.
CEDEC takes place later this month, August 23-25, and Miyazaki will receive the award in a presentation on the final day. CEDEC itself is a part of the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association, which exists to promote the Japanese industry and, among other things, runs the Tokyo Games Show and Japan Game Awards.

What an amazing game. If any game is worthy of being the modern successor to Ocarina of Time I would say it's this one.

Still a little upset that this game has crashed to desktop on my computer well into double digits. Tarnishing a rather incredible experience.

Been thinking of the game a lot lately. I think it’s time for a second play through…. Not sure what build to go with. Lots of cool swords I wanted to use the first play through that needed int. I think I’ll do a hybrid build.

So weird, I've been in that same kinda mood. I keep thinking about finally making a mage. I did a pure Dex playthrough for the first time around.

Ok so yes, glass cannon mage is easy so far. But when you are in a situation where the enemy is strong against magic and uses some kind of projectile on you and your 9 points of vitality, it can get rough haha.

So basically have to just dodge perfectly.

My glass cannon mage playthrough has been very fun. Some sections actually become difficult if you haven't been leveling your Vigor. Even just getting brushed up against can one-shot you lol. But I got to a place where I had to put points somewhere other than Int and have more health now.

I don't have PS+ and was looking forward to one-shotting bosses for people but oh well. Not sure if it's worth the online extortion tax.

Why?

Better than Moorhuhn?
You get dropped into a giant open world and are free to explore it without any icons pre populated on your map. There's always new things to explore, tons of flexibilities with builds, combat is great and the game is challenging. It's a really unique game that had me always entertained and wondering what is around the next corner for the 100 hours I played it.

Guys Eldens Ring's little brother Bloodborne needs your help in the link below. Bloodborne is getting picked on by the mean, nasty and spiteful Nintendo fans. Please help Bloodborne and give him the confidence to stand on his own two feet in a cruel and cold world. Perhaps we can reignite the embers of fate to turn once more in our favour?

Imagine Elden Ring expansion with full ray tracing, native 4k 120fps on a 4090 😍

I said it in this thread already, but I'm not convinced that the RT implementation by FROM will be any good. I believe it'll be very limited in scope and run like utter shit.

If they even bother to implement it, that is. Nothing to wait for tbh. I achieved a pretty nice improvement with reshade and the RTGI shader. That said, RT reflections for example would help a lot if done right.

My wife started this up last weekend and I'm having a blast watching since I'm just not a Souls guy. It's infinitely fucking hilarious how she can take dozens of bosses down only needing to heal once or twice, but any generic soldier with a spear and a shield equipped will exhaust almost her entire flask supply.

Great game so far, though. I wish From would let someone else do the writing, though, all this shit about fingers is fucking bizarre.

Oh there will be a lot more fingering later on.
