I'm sure their rationalization is that having a story mode like this brings in more casual gamers, thereby expanding the fanbase. But, I don't see how it could have had this effect on sales.

Did millions of casual gamers buy it because they heard about it having a story mode? Or was there a thirst for a new MH that wasn't held back by Switch hardware? (Which is a funny question now that we know the state of the technical side of this one).

It's not hard to figure out why it's selling:

It's "open world Monster Hunter", which appeals to both veterans and new fans.

It's the first console MH in seven years.

That's about it.

How does Wilds compare to World? I've been very hesitant on this game, and the things I've heard from people aren't very promising for what I want out of a Monster Hunter game.

Since I had like 400 hours in World and a fraction of that in Wilds, I won't be too concrete and say one is better than the other, but Wilds does eliminate a lot of the things I found annoying about World. I wouldn't be surprised at all if I ended up liking Wilds way more, based on what I've seen so far.

Speaking of, I just finally got into High Rank. I know that is some slow progress but hey I'm an old man with a Rivals addiction and limited free time.

After tinkering a lot, I actually went back to the highly stylized vanilla colors, but with a bit more black levels and reshade making it sharper and clearer, increasing image quality. Need a new GPU for good AA though, the hair especially is super noisy but I can't push better settings. Dunno, I think the post effect stuff from the game fits the setting.

Mhm so I'm now pretty happy with the performance. Running at a nearly locked 100fps with 2x frame gen, base framerate is around 60-70 in general, I don't feel any input lag playing with a controller and it's really smooth & direct. All with DLAA, not DLSS. Highest quality textures, some reshade for less blurr. Looking good I'd say.

Liking this a lot right now, but I have one dumb thing to bitch about and it's the quest system.

When it comes time to turn the quest in, it doesn't seem to give you any good indication of where the fuck the retardedly-named NPC is. Sometimes it'll say on the list on the world map, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it tells me I can go grab a new quest in the area, I warp there, and I can't find the fucking retard anywhere and the map has 792 tiny indicators on it.

Nice, I hope that they finally fix their shitty texture handling. And overall performance, even on my 5090 it's not great at all.
