Thread: Monster Hunter Wilds [OT] Born To Be Wild! (Strong Internet Recommended)
Tried it on Steam just out of curiosity. Only booted it up for 5min so far. I don't understand the image quality here. It all looks fizzly, fine shadows are unstable with noise, it's all just not sharp.

The standard main male character looks kinda cool. Thinking about keeping him instead of creating a hot chick.

Monster Hunter Wilds version 1.000.04.00 update patch notes
Two patches within 3 days. Lets see if Capcom can keep up that pace.

Monster Hunter Wilds version 1.000.04.00 update patch notes

  • The Monster Field Guide cannot be accessed.
  • During Main Mission: Chapter 5-2 "A World Turned Upside Down," an NPC may not appear, preventing further progression.
  • At the Smithy, an issue may occur where tutorials are repeatedly shown, disabling certain options in the menu.
  • When guarding a monster's attack with a lance using Power Guard under certain conditions, the weapon flashes in red but the effect is not activated
  • When using a mantle, a Weapon Equipment Skill may mistakenly be activated.
  • Some effects may be displayed continuously when using certain skills, such as Peak Performance and Self-Improvement.

Curious how long it'll take them to fix performance and visuals. The way they handle textures is fucked and weak, image quality is weak, on PC and consoles. I don't believe they'll fully address all shortcomings though.

Capcom doesn't have the best track record, so let's see.

And since it's setting new records for them sales-wise, maybe they just think "why should we bother with the visuals? People are loving it anyway."

I will say, though. I dunno if maybe my eyes just adjusted to the ugliness or what, but the jungle area is really damn nice looking so far.

I'll check out later if I can achieve some better results with reshade on PC. Usually, it's a good tool to increase the clarity. Let's see.

Some people can't play first person titles because it makes them sick. I can't play some of these Capcom games because of the.... fuzziness of the picture. It fucks me up. My eyes hurt and I get a headache. Same happened with World, DD2, and back in the day (not Capcom) Twilight Princess on GameCube. I think Metal Gear Snake Eater did that as well. I don't know what that is.

Desert looks totally shit, what's up with this game. Do you remember Uncharted 3 from 2011?????

Looks at these textures and the art design, the ... everything.

It reminds me of when Monster Hunter 4 was revealed for the 3DS and I was so disappointed that the newest version of MH was stuck looking like this

The textures for the ground and stuff were eye-searing. The desert area for Wilds looks like a modern day 3DS disappointment equivalent.

lol you can't increase the tit size on your female character, she's just extremely flat. C'mon.

Thank God for mods, there's one that offers all kinds of sliders, fixing this crucial issue.

Also, more revealing Gemma

Only way to get the extreme hair fizzle under control is by using DLAA, which isn't playable on my 3080. It's insane how bad performance is in this game for the visuals. I will pick that game up again when I have a new GPU, this is torture.

But with DLAA & reshade, you can at least get ok image quality.

Game is flat out amazing at least for me since my rig is more than good enough to handle everything for hours on end and zero crashes.

I can't help but miss Monster Hunter World's style over Wilds. Everything in Wilds just feels completely rushed and force fed.

Whereas World required you to actually explore and literally hunt, wilds just fast forwards you from one cutscene with exposition to another cutscene with dialogue to another cutscene with a monster that you then fight/kill and go into another cutscene, followed by another cutscene with dialogue, followed with 5 minutes of riding your mount, to another cutscene with dialogue, to another cutscene with a monster, you then fight/kill, go into another cutscene..... I could keep going but it's not an exaggeration

Worlds which forced you to work from your hub was so much more what MH is supposed to be.

Love the action, hate the story, hate the cutscenes, hate the amount of time I'm waiting to actually do more than skip through dialogue.

Endgame could be 10/10 but getting there feels like a total 6/10 experience compared to what MH Worlds did.

This isn't MonsterHunter.....it's just MonsterKiller

I can't wrap my head around the fact that Avatar looks like this and runs better than MH Wilds. Capcom dropped the ball so hard on the tech side, it's crazy.

Maybe I'm not totally feeling gunlance. Not totally sure but maybe it's just not my style. Gotta give it some more time and maybe see what kinds of things I'm not doing with it.

Longsword is far and away more OP than it's ever been. Cranium Basher used to be the coup de grace attack of MH and they've added 2 extra hits to it which makes it ridiculous.

As a long term veteran Longsword better than ever, would highly recommend trying it out

We got it, played it on PS5 Pro. Visuals are fine, monsters are cool and combat's good enough, but it's all brought down by the incessant chattering of these unwanted and uncool NPC companions, all the cutscenes and "story." Solid 5/10.

Exactly how I felt with it compared to MH World. It eventually gets better and Endgame will break away from the cutscene bullshit and let you play MH as intended

I take back what I was saying about not feeling gunlance yet. Any new weapon takes me a while to get into. I forget that I spend 100+ hours with other weapons so of course they become entrenched in muscle memory and a new one is gonna take time.

Now that I'm consistently pulling off the perfect blocks and reload blocks and managing my shots and all that, it's fun as hell.

For those playing on PC and having modern Nvidia cards, don't forget to inject the latest DLSS version into the game via the Nvidia App. It makes is sharper and more detailed, also reduces the abysmal hair noise better (still not great, only if you use DLAA).

The high res texture pack makes the game really stuttery and choppy even on my 5080. Peformance around 80 fps but stuttery as hell turning the camera around. Disabling it back to regular High puts the fps at around 100-120 fps and peforms fine with no stutters.

Edit- looking into it. It looks like having DLSS and high res textures enabled at 4K pushes the vram usage past 16 gb

Using the Framerate mode on the Pro really throws some horrible textures in lmao. The oil fields area especially has some textures here and there that the PS2 would laugh at. I took some screens but was too lazy to transfer them over.

Can you cap the frame rate at 60 and get a smooth performance? The 5080 shouldn't have any issues with this game, what a shit show.

Man, that game is such a mess, tech wise. Even the not really detailed high textures are too much for the 10GB 3080, just turning the camera in the camp, texture streaming doesn't keep up, they're often missing and need some seconds to appear correctly.

And that camp isn't dense at all, it's a tiny place with barely anything going on. I'm absolutely baffled that there are issues with such a basic thing as texture streaming. Haven't seen issues like that in many years.

Made no difference. This game eats way too much vram for its shit textures.

Next patch Slated for March 10th
Seeing next patch slated for March 10th, barring any changes. Honestly seeing at least one main mission blocker bug I would recommend holding off on playing Wilds until these issues are resolved. Playing through World and Rise at the moment. I'll say the state of the game is unacceptable, and Dragons Dogma II, though so far Capcom has been vastly faster in patching Monster Hunter Wilds then they were with Dragons Dogma II.

We have identified some issues listed below and are currently considering to address these issues in a future update.
*The release date is yet to be determined.
*Please note, individual responses will not be provided for tickets submitted regarding the issues listed below.

Some currently known issues as of March 7, 2025:

  • A network error occurs when firing an SOS flare right after a quest begins.
  • Link Members are not prioritized over other players and may not appear in some places including Base Camps.
  • Palico's attacks with blunt weapons do not inflict stun and exhaust damages.
  • Hunter Profile cannot be edited properly in some occasions.
Issues planned to be adressed in the next update (Ver. 1.000.05.00)
  • The Meal Invitation event at Azuz and Sild does not occur on some occasions.
  • An issue occurring when using Equipment Loadout, causing decorations to be removed from equipment, Bowgun Customization being reverted back to default, and Kinsects reverting to the initial rarity.
  • When cutting off monster parts, the parts change into a monster part from a different monster.
  • Gravios does not gain resistance to flinches after breaking its parts.
  • An issue which may cause crashes or some monsters to act strangely under certain situations.
  • Some skills are unintentionally activated under certain conditions.
  • Some items/rewards can be obtained repeatedly under certain conditions.
  • When trying to catch a fish with a capture net, the fishes nearby do not swim away from the fishing spot.
  • Some environmental features such as floating rubbles can be activated multiple times.
  • An issue wherein Main Mission: Chapter 5-1 "Omens" cannot be progressed.
  • Palico's support move "Attract Vigorwasps" may cause the hunter to become unresponsive to some controls.
  • When scrolling through the quest list, only the first 20 quests are shown correctly.
  • An issue which may cause the game to forcefully shut down when starting a game with saved data that encountered a force quit.
Issues that have been addressed as of March 4, 2025:
  • The "Grill a Meal" and "Ingredient Center" features cannot be unlocked even after meeting the progress criteria.
  • When heading to Azuz during Main Mission: Chapter 2-1 "Toward Fervent Fields," players keep falling through the map.
  • When successfully preforming an Offset Attack with the Insect Glaive's Descending Slash under certain conditions, the hunter freezes and becomes unresponsive to any controls.
  • Addressed issues that occurred under certain conditions with screen rendering and causing force quits.
  • *You must close the game to apply the fix. Please ensure you restart the game after updating your game to Ver. 1.000.04.00. (This can be confirmed at the title screen.)

I agree with people complaining about the cutscenes. There are so many of them, and the story is dumb gibberish. I hate all these characters. The open world aspect has been mostly useless as the game only uses it to have you ride to the next cutscene. Is there anything lost by skipping the story?

I just finished the first chapter. Hitting stuff with other people is fun. I like finding parts and upgrading my items. But the graphics, tech and story are all really bad.

Despite how ugly the game is at times (and it's also kinda nice looking at times), and the story being dumb as hell, and the constant interruption by cutscenes and walk-and-talks, it's still pretty damn good.

The new monsters are all good so far. It's too easy, but I know it'll get harder later on. Just having some fun grinding it out online at this point.

If you're talking about the mission block on chapter 5-8 or something, I do believe this is already fixed

As such a long time fan of the series, this one has been weird for me in that it had to kinda grow on me a bit. Hard to explain the feeling, but I now find myself thinking about the game when I'm at work and stuff.

I have a feeling that the inevitable expansion they put out will be incredible and extremely well-received.

Oh Capcom

- have crazy bad low res textures
- add an HD texture pack that's bigger than the actual game
- those textures aren't even that good
- communicate a 16GB VRAM requirement, which is outrageous for such below average textures
- even those 16GB of VRAM aren't enough for the "HD" textures
