Thread: Monster Hunter Wilds [OT] Born To Be Wild! (Strong Internet Recommended)
Hearing terrible things about the PC version beyond the absurdly high requirements. Loads of crashes, failure to boot on modern systems, insane swings in frame rate. Steam reviews are "mixed" with only 47% positive.. Anyone got any first hand experience?

The benchmark was very bad. I'm interested in the game but will wait for it to get more polished.

They totally fucked up the PC version. Wow is this bad. Just turning the camera tanks performance and textures are like from 20 years ago.

This is why modern gaming sucks. You have this pathetic excuse of a pc game, yet there are 1.3 million bitches out there spending their $70 and going "this is fine". How we got to this point I think it's totally deserved.

I thought it was known that CAPCOM was a mixed bag at launch for PC ports? Didn't Dragons Dogma 2 have absurd drops in performance initially?

Could be wrong but I thought some of the recent RE ports on PC were bad at launch, but others were solid.

I've only done the intro so far. I have everything maxed, 4k, RT high, HQ texture packs + DLSS/FG on. It gives me framerates in the 80s. I haven't noticed any stuttering. So it is playing ok. But with how the game looks it feels like I could be getting better results. The world is very plain and ugly.

After so many years, you'd think they'd figure it out an learn from their mistakes. But it feels that every game starts at zero lol

On only played the first hour fighting the first monster but peformance seemed okay but I have a fairly high end setup. I heard it's very bad if you have lower end hardware. I have a 3900x/RTX 3080 with 32 gb ram

1070 for my PC lol.

I'm likely getting a new PC later this year though (any recommendations?). In meantime playing World and Rise, Wilds will hopefully be fixed with patches, updates and expansion by time I'm done with them.

Nvidia 50 series and AMDs new cards will both be a massive upgrade from your GPU. I recommend getting at least a 16gb Vram gpu for longevity. This game in particular is not friendly to sub 10gb gpus.

First monster hunter. Killed the first boss and got a bunch of shit. Wtf. This shit is overwhelming. Game plays great but running top of the line rig. Had no issues with Dragons Dogma 2.

Running the spear weapon that spawns bugs. Seems like this is going to take be a time sink. Not sure how far I will get into it.

Insect Glaive is one of my mains. You need to learn to hold right trigger and fire the bug so that it hits all 3 parts of the body to upgrade your attacks. Once you have red/orange/white you can either be an aerial assassin holding right trigger and A so you launch into the air and can essentially stay airborne for over a dozen hits above the monster

Or if you want to stay ground based one of the legit fast/agile double strikes in the standing y button. Make sure you're not moving and launch the y, y, y combo for 9 fast hardhits - You can essentially run around the monster using this for maximum damage

Killed the second monster and the controls are taking some time for me to get used to but I'm having fun and the monsters look cool. :) Are you guys playing solo or with others?

Solo thus far and I have to say they really split the monsters health from World......such a faster kill now where I don't even know there's a justification for coop as the monster goes down so fast. Still early though so dunno...

The game probably tells you this at some point but you use monster parts to craft/upgrade weapons and armour. You'll get some parts for finishing the hunt but you can also carve the monsters corpse for some too. Some monsters have horns or tails etc that can be cut off, these can often be carved too. If you see a monster part laying on the floor run over to see if you can carve it. Breaking some monsters parts (like it's scales on an arm or leg) can also drop parts that look like small glimmering objects you can pick up, assuming this is still a mechanic in Wilds.

Eh? Re2, Re3, Re4, Re7, Re8 and SFV and 6 all had great ports outside of the occasional traversal stutter or poor iq that needed modding.

This port is completely broken.

Yea I just switched down to medium settings to see if this does any better....I have zero performance issues my graphics card is just running too hot over a long period of time (2080 TI 11GB)

If it's still significant I'll try Low.....I might just be paranoid but it seems like a massive power draw

........So I just did a test in Low, Medium, High....visuals changed as you ramped up performance.....but the graphics card remained the same temp regardless what setting. Even trying to turn everything as low as possible produced the same amount of heat out of my card.

Basically I'm going to play on High because I could play on low for the same power draw

The RE engine doesn't seem to be great with open world games

The problem isn't player's pc specs, but the RE Engine and Capcom's stubborn stomp on rakes til it works approach to PC port development.

My main complaint, beyond performance issues, is the dragged-out story segments with forced, combat-less escort moments that restrict exploration and force you to stay near npcs as you walk from point a to point b to get a cutscene. Despite those, the optimization woes, and usual Capcom PC launch hiccups, it's a blast.

Definitely check GG.deals or is there any deal for a discount instead of buying it full price.

Small Patch from night of March 1?
Patch released sometime last night.

From comments around web, and my own observations-
Likely addressed the insane Resolution being misspelled in the games code which was actually causing massive performance issues at least on PC.

Display of your Hunter, Pelico, Alma and Chocobo in your current region now displays at main menu start.

Also now able to preview armor before buying or trying it on.

Let's see how fast Capcom can roll out these patches, they have a ton of work that still needs to be done to get the game up to acceptable standards if they ever want the massive amount of negative reviews to change.

Slayed Lala Barina and Congalala! I love it when you're in a middle of a monster fight and another random monster jumps in and fights the other monster XD

I think i'm starting to get the hang of the controls

Steelbook arrived, let it install while playing Marvel Rivals.

I have tomorrow off so I'll probably get some good time in with this finally.

High res texture pack on PC needs a GPU with at least 16GB of VRAM. Capcom is so bad at PC optimization, it's ridiculous.

Just starting it. Some of the textures are god awful. Even just in the cutscenes. Like damn lol

You're playing on the Pro?

And man.... this is crazy. Look at the Gothic Remake DEMO that's still not fully optimized, running flawlessly on my 3080. Monster Hunter runs poorly and the difference in textures, density and image quality is unbelievable.

Even if we can't directly compare every game, something like Horizon looks absolutely crazy on Pro despite being an open world with huge monsters roaming around all the time. Maybe there's some argument to things "under the hood" having higher requirements in MH, but I wouldn't know.

Either way, Wilds looks like a PS4 game that came out in the first couple years of launch and is struggling to run on current day hardware for no reason. I'll just use the Framerate option but damn. It'll be a lot of fun, I'll be playing 200+ hours of it, but they really dropped the ball visually like crazy.

So glad I'm a part of the Console Master Race :ROFLMAO:

Maybe your $7000 rigs can run a new game some day! And you had to buy a monitor and gaming chair with that, too! LMAO get rekt

Yeah man idk why folks complain at this point.

It's crystal-clear that devs are developing for consoles and then the PC ports are afterthoughts.

I guess someone did say that the early part in the brown sludge desert is the worst looking part of the game? Maybe I'm just too early in and it won't look this shitty later on.

edit- also I have been really taking it slow as hell, learning the gunlance, and after a couple monsters into the campaign I can tell this is gonna be really fucking good
