Thread: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 [OT] - The French Connection (Good Internet Connection Recommended)

So the only thing I'm not liking is my retarded old brain is getting so confused looking for hidden shit and secret areas, and I don't wanna use a guide, so I play for like an hour and I'm mentally exhausted, especially with no map.

It's cool they have alot of stuff to find though, so it's a subjective complaint more than objective

Yeah I want to find everything and got to a frustrating point now.

I found some lost Gestrals and received a reward that allows me to smash those blue rocks/walls that you sometimes see. I remember seeing those and noticing them, there are rewards to be found like new Pictos.

But the fast travel is very limited and I don't really remember the locations so I'd have to go through all levels and sections... Which I won't do because that would take half a day. I don't like that Metroidvanian stuff in general, to see blocked shit and having to backtrack later.

Not a huge negative though, still enjoying the game a lot.

This game man, I start to play it and all of a sudden hours have gone by... I'm already at 70 hours and I got tons of stuff left to explore. I'll definitely have over 100 hours by the time I beat it.

Currently at level 89. Leveling is pretty fast until you hit 85, then it slows down a lot. I hit my first 7 digit damage today, it was a 2.8M Gradient counter but I still ended up losing that fight lol.

Ok this optional ice area is not yet for me, takes forever to beat the enemies. It's also huge wow, and I found an interesting "trainer" that gave me

Speaking of optional areas, I get the feeling that a LOT of the portals on the map are optional. Or does the main story take you to the majority of these areas?

I feel like my only complaint with the game would be the lack of a better fast travel and a whole lot of "where the fuck did I need to backtrack to again?" But I'm not far into it yet. Even though it's "open world" it does feel pretty linear in an overall sense....just very mazy

Game makes me want to find an easier way to play shadow hearts covenant again. Judgement wheel ftw.
I second the wish for maybe a fuzzy map of sub areas because remembering what flagbis where and even what hallway to take when you get there has me turned around too often
Otherwise damn good so far (just unlocked 4th char and need to.figure out how to kill that damn 3 turn runaway mob)

There's a merchant in that zone that sells you the same outfit for Sciel and a very cool outfit for Verso that I use. It actually reminds me of an outfit in FF16 which is weird since it the same voice actor.

Most are optional but a lot are also just a very small areas with either just a quest giver or a music record on the floor.

Yeah I found those. Couldn't beat the boss though, will come back later.

This game gives me the same vibes I got when I played FF7 back in the day. Which is a huge compliment.

When i realised that, i compared it with the FF7 Intergrade remake, mentally and, well the difference is huge. CO is mature, charming, sad, funny. FF7I just felt childish and it kept wasting my time with stupid stuff.

I still love this game, even though I'm only half way through. It keeps surprising me and has met fully invested in the story, characters and gameplay.

Shout out to myself, posted last Friday:

Tracking the Steam concurrent players, looking at the sales split with the other platforms, I think they'll be able to announce 2m sold (including physical shipped) inside of the next 5 days.

Expedition 33 has passed 2 Million Copies sold in only 12 days! With Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remaster shadow dropping 2 days before launch! Damn thats extremely impressive for any game, let alone a brand new Western very heavily JRPG influenced franchise!

Reminds me of the traction Rocket League got by launching on a "free" service. The game has to be very good for it to succeed. For every game that it works out for there's another 20 it dosnt. I don't think it's odds I'd ever want to take as a publisher (unless a substantial amount of funding was guaranteed).

So many hair styles to unlock lol

And.... I think the mini games and platforming challenges are great. It's so stupid that it's fun. Climbing up these tiny elements like a retard to unlock a swimsuit is too hilarious for me to be mad.

And it's predictable, the controls are reliable enough for it to work, I never felt like it wasn't my fault.

Finally got back to this since the arc raiders technical test ended.

Just had a several hour session. Sciel is really good and cannot believe how big the world map is.

At the start of act 3, I felt the characters were all strong and there was a good balance but I started exploring the world that opened up, getting way stronger in the process and now I can say that in my group Maelle is way stronger than the rest. Maelle is like Ultra Instinct Goku, Lune is Krilin and the rest are humans. I mean maybe the others can catch up with the right build but I haven't really fooled around with the others as much as Maelle.

Maelle is definitely strong as hell. But the others can be very effective as well. Lune can do insane damage with all her elements and damage enemy groups over multiple rounds for example. Sciel can build up very strong multiple hit attacks. Monoco has a cool ability that pierces through shields and does more damage the more shields there are, I just had an enemy with six shields and Monoco wrecked him.

Oh and beating Sprong, that large optional enemy in the water, gives you the strongest Picto I've seen so far. Took me a long time to beat him but.... Yeah, it makes the rest of the game a lot easier.

I'm around level 62 right now in Act III and Verso is by far the strongest in my group. I'm using a basic attack build and the weapon that lets him take another turn if he lands a basic attack. Basically can land some 9 point power moves and fill up a gradient bar each time he plays. Maelle definitely does insane damage, too, but taking two turns in a row is huge.

Yeah that Sprong picto is insane and a total game changer though I would say that technically it's the 2nd best picto because nothing can beat Painted Power. The big snake in the sky also drops another insane picto.

While exploring I entered a zone where the mobs were much stronger than anything I had faced up until then and at the end of that zone was a boss that I managed to beat with my OP group (all level 91) through the skin of my teeth with the reserve team finishing him off, or so I thought, turns out it had a second phase which wiped the floor with me. This guy had some BS moves and I felt like I would never beat him. I decided to go all in on Maelle and have her solo it with the soloing pictos, i decided to use all the damage+ luminas I could equip no matter what downsides they had. The result blew my mind. A single hit one-shotted his first phase, his 2nd phase was very nearly one-shotted as well. His HP in both phases is 8-digits. Right now I'm not sure how the other guys can hit 8 digits in a single hit but I'm looking forward trying to get them there.

I downloaded this the moment it came out but kept it on the backburner.......

Holy shit that may be one of the best video game prologues ever, avoiding any spoilery stuff in this thread but holy shit Ubisoft.....you had this dude in-house and you were recycling AC games?!

If you like two turns in a row
.... Go and fight Sprong!

Tough fight though, I needed to really change my team and abilities for him, such a motherfucker.

The one good thing about him is that his attacks aren't that hard to dodge/parry, so if you're good at that, the fight isn't too bad as long as your team can put out the necessary damage cause he was a nice chunk of HP.

Same here with regards to Verso. Also using the two hit buff.

Just in case anyone is thick like me "Check in with the others at camp" isn't just talking to other people if you haven't already done so. It's actually unlocks dedicated cutscnes. Just found out now randomly!

Yeah people should definitely explore all available dialogue options. There are also abilities that will unlock.

Um....so I was dumb and killed
