Yeah people should definitely explore all available dialogue options. There are also abilities that will unlock.

I do in every rpg I just presumed "check in with others" refereed to the optional dialogues with everyone I was already having. Bit oddly worded IMO.

Finally broke 9 digits on a single hit.

Also discovered something pretty important, Lumina points can actually be farmed quite easily ad infinitum. So now I don't have to feel bad about missing out on that reward for not killing the white nevrons.

Just got the Barrier Break. Hard to tell if I am nearing the end of the main quest or not.
So you're at the Monolith which is the last dugeon of act 2 but it's pretty long. Then you'll still have all of act 3 which is where everything opens up. I'm on Act 3 but I haven't done anything story related, just exploring every optional area I can, I'm level 99 now was maybe in the 50s when I beat act 2 so I'm been exploring Act 3 a lot, grinding, and trying out various builds (really sucks that you can't save your builds btw). farming all the optional bosses and such, and I still have a lot of areas to explore, including that giant tower, which is probably my next stop.

I'm currently going at the second Axon, so still in Act II. Gotta get rid of that 9.999 damage limit!

Excellent, thank you. Doingn all the optional content and going back to early areas to steam roll will probably be the best part of the game. Plus I want all the perks now before I finish the main story, rather than at the end when I don't need them any longer.

Same place as me (well literally an hour behind). Very small gameplay spoiler that may help;

You pick up the no charm pictos in this dungeon. Level it up asap as theres only about 10 enemy encounters before you will need it.

You're assuming his 2nd axon and your 2nd axon are the same though, you can do them in either order.

Thanks for the heads up, will do!

Yes, but hostile nailed it, we're in the same dungeon.

Yep it's a game changer, but not only cause of the damage boost, but it basically unlocks the full potential of single hit attacks which became shit once you hit the 9999 cap. So now when a skill says "deals extreme damage 1 hit" that's the one you want. Cause a picto like "augmented first strike" only affects the first hit, so on a multi hit skill it won't be that much of a boost compared to a single hit skill.

I have a feeling that damage goes crazy because all the damage boosts are multiplicative and not additive like you would expect. And it will go up exponentially the more damage buffs you add. Cause my damage was pretty tame until I started focusing solely on stacking the damage boost luminas and luminas that help activate those damage boost luminas.

Oh and I just realized you beat Sprong while damage capped. Props to you cause he has a lot of HP, I beat him in act 3 so was a lot easier.

Yeah beating him..... Took some time. And patience. Fuck that dude.

I've really just gotten 4 party and met the big guy who helps travel.

How large would you say the game is in terms of content?

Lots of optional side quests and bosses. 25hours for main quest if you streamline. Most people I think would dabble in some side stuff naturally so I'd say closer to 30.

But to do everything I clocked in at about 60.

Can't say for sure since I'm still early on, but I have 4 friends on my PSN list playing the game and they have around 15, 25, 40, and 60 hours invested based on the PSN stats. I just noticed it last night when I was playing a bit of E33 myself

Just saw that I took a screenshot back when I beat this motherfucker. It took 151 parries in one fight.

Ouch, you didn't have Monoco in your pt. You learn a skill from that guy and not sure if there are any others.

EDIT: Lol, nvm, just after typing this I came across another one in The Flying Manor.

This was before I unlocked Monoco I think. When a new area unlocks I fight all enemies and explore everything before I go to the actual target.

It seems intentional, but this game nails the idiosyncratic 90s/2000s JRPG style of putting nonsense feelgood high school drama next to serious, gruesome events.

(Tiny early spoiler?)

Like at camp, Luna is playing a guitar for like 10 seconds and Gustave wanders over "oh how sweet, you still play?" And then she puts it away and talk about the mission again.

I just grinned at the silliness. You're telling me these are the last few surviving Expedition 33 members and yet they had space on the ship to keep a guitar? Not only that but the guitar survived the battle?

Seriously if they just stormed the beach holding some Fender hardcases like a riot shield, this game would've turned out differently.

Not trying to nitpick the game at all. I think it perfectly matches the old JRPG vibe where one moment you're saving the world from a cosmic tyrant yet you still find time to crossdress at the Honey Bee Inn or place bets on a chocobo race.

Btw. They didn't take instruments with them. They can make instruments out of Pictos, it's explained at one point.

Still silly, but at least the lore is there for it.

It's funny cause it's true. I actually love tweaking builds in a RPG, trying to squeeze out the most DPS possible, I was a longtime FFXI player. But I can't help but think that I somewhat screwed myself out of challenging end game. Basically no enemy will ever have a turn against me unless I purposely allow them to. Kinda sad...

Same here. Shame they are using repeated levels/assets here for such a pivitol location (so far).

There's actually a reason for that which you'll understand at the end of act 2.

I'm hoping that girl in the mask isn't a certain person we know or it will be the most obvious plot twist in a while. :)

Not a great initial showing performance wise, luckily the mods help quite a bit on PC. With a high-end rig and a 60fps cap, not much issues for me outside of some rare traversal stutters.

I gotta say... FUCK that climbing gestral beach. I fell all the way down maybe 75% of the way there, and I'd been climbing for over 10 mins but slowly I guess, fell twice but they were short falls I could recover from. I was stressing out and sweating. At one point I saw a Gestral and thought "Oh there's the finish line", but nope he just points up, implying you got a lot more to go. They should not have made it that long. Nobody wants to waste their time doing this shit. The volleyball one is a bit tough for the final guy, but it lasts like 30 sec, so you do it a few times til you win, not a big deal but this climb shit is way too fucking long and there's way too much jank, this ain't Astrbot, that's for sure.

To be fair the higher up you go the more chance if you fall you'll land on something else below.

But yeah I feel lucky I did it on the second go. It's one of those things where the second you start getting frustrated or rushing the early parts, it will just never end.

Bro that first one is easy by comparison. If you can't handle that log at its worst, you don't deserve it at its best.

Yeah I agree, they're all easy compared to the climb cause the climb is long, so when you fail it's a big deal. The others are like 30 secs so you fail a few times til you win.

The first one was the hardest for me for some reason. The other were long but without a time limit, it's chill.

That rocket deflection challenge though, that timing was tricky.

So....on the skill QTEs, where exactly are you supposed to be timing it for a perfect or max damage? I've hit it while it's still in the white and it gives me perfect. I've also hit it in the "perfect" gold zone while it's past the middle marker and it doesn't give me a perfect. What gives? I'm finding easier to just go by sound to hit it than visual.

The windows can be quite small and I noticed that as well to some degree. Like hitting it a split second too early still got me the perfect. Seems like it might be slightly off.
