I just don't understand why a game like DOOM ETERNAL runs so amazingly well on my rig at super max settings, ray tracing included, with DLSS off even, pegged @120fps with never a dip no matter what is going on... And that game looks awesome.

Because id tech is the best performing engine on the market right now. It's a miracle. For their use case, it's an engine tailored for their games and not broadly usable like UE5 is. Like, you don't have hugely complex architecture or object density in the Doom games. You had barely any vegetation and moving parts there. They put a lot of dev time into improving it for Indiana Jones and now Dark Ages. Indiana Jones now features vegetation and such. But there are reasons why for example Bethesda never went with that engine for their RPGs.

An engine that tries to cover basically all games like UE5 will always perform worse than a hand crafted one for shooters that has been worked on by specialists for that use case.

Reporting on the woke bigot hate from your favorite grifter:

So far, what could be noticed:

- in the opening, feels like 40% of the citizens are black. Other races aren't represented from what I've seen, just whites and blacks. So... Like Paris right now I guess.
- one gay couple saying goodbye with a one sentence interaction
- Lune is this super strong female that is super rational and picks up the main male character, telling him he shouldn't be such a pussy and keep going

Nothing that seemed totally out of place or too forced. No they them stuff. Nothing that really took me out of the experience, I don't think we should riot.

Sadly, no grifting for me.

@regawdless moving to France confirmed.

Plague Tale Innocence is another GREAT game that was made by only 40 people. It's rare these days, but it can be done.

I'm not getting any framerate issues, feels great at 100fps. Perhaps because of the 3d vcache, but on the flip side I'm generally not sensitive to it.

From my experience, playing with a controller on a TV at some distance, it's less noticable. But no matter your hardware, there are traversal hitches. If you're not sensitive to those, lucky you.

The x3D does reduce the severity.

Modern ID games are super well optimized. It's not the standard in the industry.

For me Doom engine is really efficient, but the textures are really suited to that's game environments. Overall they are pretty low res and game wise lacks scope (i.e NPC characters, scene complexity) compared to some of its heavier peers. It's nice to have both type of engines/games that prioritise different things. Doom engine has a great "feel" but it compromises to get it IMO.

This. There's a reason why it's not being used for Bethesda open world games with many systems and game logic going on. With large settlements, NPCs, AI, dynamic objects, systems running in the background.

Nobody hates woke shit more than me and I'm not seeing anything really woke so far. Having black people as npcs in the background is not woke. It takes place in some fictional France so races don't really matter.

That gay couple honestly you can't even be sure that they're gay from that one line. Are they gay? Probably, but it could also be friends or brothers as there's not enough to go by.

As for Lune, she's fine. Nobody bitched that Lightning was woke back when FF13 came out, but by today's standards she'd be considered girl boss woke. But so far Lune doesn't seem like that at all. She was dealing with things how she could by trying to stick to protocol. Sure she reminded Gustave about the mission, but he reminded her to not be such a tight ass and in the state the expedition is in, friends are more important than the mission. Obito would be proud.

Absolutely. That's why I wrote could. I'm not taking it that way, especially because during the dialogues it feels not woke at all and the characters are just simply good and interesting.

I bought the deluxe edition right before release for the discount, realistically I won't play it for a while. Game looks damn amazing.
My WoW guild is keeping me busy :(

What year is it? Dude is choosing fucking WoW over a newly releases banger of a game. Wild virgin behavior.

Great opening sequence. I actually felt an emotion towards the end of it. And I WANT to find out what all that shit is about.

I think the smaller dev teams made up of dedicated, talented people can work wonders. I know Larian was like 400 people and spent 150 mil to make Baldurs Gate 3, but, it can be done. These bloated studios filled with woke land whales is not needed at all. I put in too many hours into Section 1 and that was one guy.

Game just surpassed Assassin's Creed Shadows player count on Steam!

33 devs beating the huge ass Ubisoft game, despite being on GamePass. Great performance by the game, but also shows how extremely weak AC Shadows sold for its budget if it's beaten by a 33 people dev team.

Only able to sneak in a couple hours of gameplay each morning so it will take me ages to beat. I have a feeling this will be a game which I attempt every quest which is rare.

Game really gives me the lost odyssey vibes and old school ff games.

I attempted it on the deck and it was not good. It ran but lots of visual glitches and super ugly. I bet they will get it working eventually.

UE5, tiny team, chances are high that basically no tech issues will be fixed. But this team seems to be amazing, so who knows.

Honestly I thought i was going to play this on steam deck only but the world looks so great on my regular pc I now refuse to use the deck. I have accepted that this game will take me forever to beat and I'm okay. I don't want it to end.

Side note. Music is soooo good

Btw here's the whole 8h OST if you want to listen to it for free. Some great tracks.

Anyone tried on Steam Deck yet? From what I've seen it has a deck preset graphics option which mostly runs above 30 so locking at 30 gives a consistent frame rate. I have heard the UI can be hard to read though.

PC BROS!!!

go to
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Sandfall\Saved\Config\Windows
Open the config

at the end, add:

[SystemSettings]
r.DFDistanceScale=2
r.ViewDistanceScale=2
foliage.LODDistanceScale=2
r.postprocessing.disablematerials=1
r.DepthOfFieldQuality=0
r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0
r.Tonemapper.Quality=1
r.Tonemapper.Sharpen=0
r.Tonemapper.GrainQuantization=0
r.SkeletalMeshLODBias=-15
r.MotionBlur.TargetFPS=0
r.Lumen.HardwareRayTracing=1
r.Lumen.Reflections.HardwareRayTracing=1
r.Lumen.Reflections.Temporal=0
r.Lumen.Reflections.DownsampleFactor=0
r.Lumen.Reflections.GGXSamplingBias=1
r.Lumen.TranslucencyReflections.FrontLayer.Allow=1

It doubles the draw distance, the shadow draw distance. It removes sharpen, DoF, CA, Vignette and motion blur. It adds hardware Lumen reflections which are a lot better. Improves overall clarity.

Make sure to set the file to read only afterwards.

Example for the reflections, left with the new parameters, right vanilla.

Also, don't forget to swap in the transformer DLSS model.

You're welcome.

If only they'd properly represented BIPoC and other indigenous communities I would feel a whole lot better about buying this. I mean, no black protagonist. Not even so much as a St Floyd statue or SOMETHING GAH

After installing that one mod that improves performance, I'm now playing at 5k DLAA transformer model at a locked 60 without any stutters, maaaaaybe some super small traversal drops but overall very smooth.
