Finished act 2. Kind of gone off it at the moment. I'll give it an hour or so into act 3 see if it reignites my interest. At the moment feels a bit like "well that was a waste of my time".

Yeah, kind of felt the same. The combat is still fun enough for me to keep playing, but I went from being totally engrossed to only picking it up here and there over the last week.

Oh man.....you guys are making me wanna just never get to act 3

It was different to what I expected, but once I was able to wrap my head around it, I liked it. It introduces interesting questions about the value and meaning of life, about perspectives and concepts that can be applied to other modern topics.

Man I blasted through the game way faster than I anticipated.... finished the game yesterday and played about 80% of the game without enabling the various pictos you could add other than 3 attached for each character. By the time I was using the pictos right I had pretty much mastered the parry system.

The only complaint I have is I wish it was a 50 hour game but happy with it. Could see doing a replay just to crush the parrying again which is so satisfying.

First time respeccing my team. Fuck Vitality. All have 0 Vitality Put all into Luck and the scaling attributes for the weapons, with some might to get maximum damage.

Sciel is basically just my support for Maelle now. Delaying the enemy attack and doubling Maelles damage. Lune does Elemental Trick to get all element gems, then directly her Elemental Genesis, which slays.

Maelle has no defense, all abilities and skills that sacrifice health for damage output.

Glad you enjoyed it, but to me, it felt like more post-modern metaverse nonsense and made everything that came before (narratively, at least) feel rather inconsequential. I'm just not interested in having my expectations and hopes subverted anymore (although I did start to suspect something similar to what happened was coming).

Oh well, shouldn't have expected anything else from French people.

Curiouser, I'm in act 2, should I be going all the way back to Gesteral village? Have new things opened up? Or should I just wait for faster travel

Act 3 is the best for me. It's where everything opens up to you and you can explore all these places that have insane bosses to fight, pictos to gain and lore to uncover. I mean if you wanna just end it and beat the game, you can do so right at the start of act 3, you're strong enough.

It was a 90 hour game for me. I mean you can't complain about the length if you didn't do everything that was on offer in Act 3.

This game was/is simply phenomenal. We beat it today, but we still have some side content to look at. Truly refreshing for an indie team to hold up a mirror to western devs so they can see what clowns they are. I almost forgot what it's like to play a game that isn't written with HR in the room making sure nobody gets offended. I'll spoiler any additional thoughts.

The Act 2 reveal was a bit jarring at first, but God damn if they didn't stick the landing. It's a really, really well written story about a family struggling to deal with grief. Compared to the story in other games released these days, this shit is fucking Shakespeare.

My biggest gripe with the game is how Act 3 felt like the devs ran out of time. The only objective being to rush to the finish line when what felt like 60% of the game was left undiscovered was bizarre. That one cutscenes where Maelle was resurrecting former Expedition members should have been a long quest that sent you to new zones. Missed opportunity and I wonder how many people are just going to miss all that content.

Also, fuck whoever decided to put Simon in the game.

Yea I was a bit surprised there was so much optional content. I would've done it if I had more direction where to look

The one regret was not beating the monster in the water that has more health than anything I fought it several times for like nearly an hour long perfect parrying everything and eventually died with like 10% left on him.... being able to get that consistently good with parries made the rest of the game an afterthought

I'm a actually sad it's so long, doesn't need to be, but thankfully it doesn't feel as bloated as FF7 rebirth yet where most of that was click quest and scaning

I thought exactly the same about Act 3 and the bridge cutscene. Like they wanted to do a full act but had to settle on this instead. Artistically but was very well done, but yeah strange.

I'm on the other side of the argument—I actually appreciated that the game just got to the point by the end. The big reveal had already landed, and I didn't need a drawn-out quest to reach the inevitable conclusion that you're going to resurrect your party. Games like Kingdom Hearts drag things out with predictable side quests, and I'm glad Expedition 33 avoided that.

By that point in the story, I just wanted to understand what the hell was really going on. I will say it is a little odd that the rest of the optional content opens up right then, but the game does a great job of just dropping you back into the world naturally.

If anything, I think they should've nudged the player more directly toward finishing Act 3 first. Once you understand what the Canvas actually is, some of those late-game encounters feel… not necessarily more impactful, but there's a deeper spiritual weight to them that hits differently.

That guy is nothing compared to many of the optional bosses in Act 3.

That's what I liked about this game, it was free of all the hand holding that modern games have. You had to go exploring on your own, which I couldn't wait to do. That's why I loved Act 3, it was total freedom. Act 3 is BY FAR the meatiest Act, you just have to go seek out stuff for yourself. My only gripe is that there were no bosses that were made for people who spent time working on their builds like me. I wish I could've mastered parrying, but sadly enemies never got a turn against me.

Supposedly enemies are harder in New Game + so I might give that a shot.

So what other factors contribute to order of character turn besides pictos? I'm curious why my lune is going before my maelle when maelle has higher speed.....I actually prefer it this way but I'm curious why it's happening.

Does Lune have the First Strike lumina active while Maelle doesn't maybe?

You can set the order of the characters yourself.

The game always uses the order you selected your party in the menu. You can remove two of the three characters, the remaining one will be the first. Then you select the next, it'll be the second. Last one will be the third in line.

Lol seriously? Fightincowboy grilled his chat on how speed is the factor, not order of characters. Shit I been thinking it was just speed this whole time. Now he sounds like an asshole.

Yes that's how it works, try it. It's crucial to my teams success, Sciel applies buffs, Lune weakens them and applies elemental damage, Maelle finishes the rest off taking advantage of the buffs and elemental states. Tbh I don't even know what Speed really does, outside of scaling with some weapons.

Speed must be the same as agility then, just factoring in if you can go before/more than the enemy.

So another thing I'm noticing is....getting the bonuses from weapons does not transfer to another weapon. Meaning it's permanent based on whatever weapon you specd into and will not go up nor down if you switch weapons.

This interestingly changes things and I'll probably have to respec a lot. Maybe I need to pump attributes while wielding a weapon that has B luck for example and then switch to my main weapon I use.

Damn dude....when I fulfilled the small bourgoun quest and then attacked him....and he said "No....do not want...." And I couldn't go back without offing him....I felt like such an asshole. Gonna be giving the white ones mercy the second playthrough.

Yeah wow. I always assumed turn order was prioritized by pictos first, then agility. Had no idea you could pick the order like that. Would be nice if the game kinda told you that.

It's news to me, too. I'm gonna try it out next time I play (still in Act 1).

Since the game places so much emphasis on setting up status effects and combos, it seems like they should've told you that right away.

Level 63, after re-speccing, there's some good damage possible

Fail Seth Meyers GIF by Late Night with Seth Meyers

Combination of a lot of buffs. I used all my Lumina points on my three main girls, never into the dudes because I love mah strang womahns.

All the Pictos that focus on damage even the ones that sacrifice your health and defense, double damage buff from Sciel, applying burn with Lune, Pictos that increase damage on burning enemies, starting in virtuous stance with +200% damage etc. it all adds up.

So is that a round 1 damage score or multiple rounds budding maelle up

For some reason it felt like my damage capped at 999,999 no matter what would never go higher than that, sort of makes sense as I didn't bother with any of the health sacrifice stuff pictos that boost based on damage missing but would've assume I still went above 999,999

I used Maelle with a fire weapon that would instantly drop 5 or 10 burns depending on offense/defense and armor breaking though never really needed

Verso used the 2 attacks weapon so I mainly spammed his gun on the first attempt and ended with B perfection and 3 moves left to hit the mark attack for double 9999

Then I basically just used Sciel for either her move that attacks/heals the group or the super group move that builds up

Combine with the adding attacks on parry I was basically unkillable at full health and I spent the majority of the game not even using pictos correctly

Ultimately if you an parry none of it matters

You are given a picto after Act 2 that removes the damage cap. Not sure how you missed that.

Beat Simon and the Gestral Beach challenges tonight. Just have the Endless Tower and the grind to 99 for the platinum.

So I'm confused what first strike pictos actually does. It isn't making maelle go first. Does it just guarantee the party always first strikes when running into an enemy?

It ensures you always go before enemies, including bosses. Turn order is based on party order as @regawdless mentioned earlier. It's also affected by deaths, so if a character dies they get defacto placed in the 3rd slot, that's why your order can sometimes seem to change for no reason.

Okay so what I read and just experienced is that the first strike pictos only procs when you run into the enemy, not attack them. Then my maelle went first.

Curiously, it then made lune go after which was out of order. Then Gustave. Then maelle again before the enemy.

So is that giving me one extra turn before the enemy goes i wonder. The out of order is a little annoying though.
