Speaking of Jason Mamoa, what ever happened to the riddick franchise?

This might be my favorite moment in both The Hobbit and LOTR trilogies

It can be argued that Thorin and the Dwarves were the most hostile and aggressive bunch among the Five Armies. But they were only adamantly pursuing what was once theirs and refusing to back down an inch. Thorin was willing to wage war against all. But in the end, he was a great ally and valiant warrior, a true king as well. Played perhaps the most important role in the entire war, and took on the toughest foe on the battlefield. Without his selfless sacrifice and his victory; all dwarves, elves, men + women + children might have parished in that grim battle…

Possibly the most intimidating force in the latter part of the story, Thorin, becomes a hero to all those races in Middle Earth. It's shown beautifully in this last goodbye, and honoring of him. This scene is brilliant to me; shows us the full weight and magnitude of a king's power, after death even

RIP to Thorin, son of Thráin. King Under the Mountain

Was pretty ill over the weekend and Monday and not really able to do much more than lie in bed, so when I wasn't having fever dreams I caught up on a few things, the first of which was the TV Mini-Series 'The Offer' which was all about the making the film The Godfather and the various travails it went through.

Actually pretty interesting stuff and well worth a watch if you have the time. There was a lot of resistance to the making of the film as the Book albeit an international bestseller wasn't viewed favourably by the Italian American community and the actual US Mafia wasn't too keen either. Also, there was a bit of a power struggle going on between the Creative head of Paramount (Robert Evans) and the suits at Gulf & Western who owned it, amongst other stuff.

Pretty remarkable that they managed to pull it all off and end up with one of the greatest movies ever made which also revolutionised the approach to cinematic distribution at the time.

Episode 7 of Silo. Still good, though the protag Juliet albeit she has a noble intent to solve this mystery she has stumbled across is a bit of a dick to everyone she encounters it has to be said.

Yamaguchi Gumi Gaiden Kyushu Shinko Sakusen (aka The Tattooed Hitman) (1974)

This one was a bit of a mixed bag. It has the right cast of actors, its made by TOEI... but it wasnt directed by Kinji Fukasaku.... and you feel it. This one has all the right bones. And it hits all the right beats... but still lands a little flat. It is in no way a bad Yakuza film. Just a clear step down from Fukasaku. The director (Kôsaku Yamashita) clearly was trying to deliver a Fukasaku with a handful of shaky shots, solid story and cast. Just if you have tasted the good stuff this feel like store brand.

And whats funny is that this film was dubbed and released in the US....and none of Fukasaku's films were. Talk about a failure of the 'experts'.

All in all its a solid watch and Bunta Sugawara is as visceral as ever. Hell he might even be his most bad ass protagonist here (rivals Street Mobster). The man just oozes confidence and strife.

I watched it, it's well made but almost 90% lies.

True Stories are never true stories HE1NZ. I think we are all of an age now to appreciate that, however, albeit one has to take everything with a pinch of salt as much is there for dramatic effect I didn't find it overly offensive unlike say Argo.

It just takes too many implausible turns with its characters making it feel like a fairy tale in the end. Like that cliche dumb producer conveniently becoming a money genius. Also it's like one of those biopic movies where subject's success is predestinated.

Well, it's the story pertaining to how the Godfather was made...the reality is probably a lot more complicated. It's a lot easier to write that stuff in a book though, so with adaptation, you're always going to work with broad strokes and merge characters' actions etc.

As I said whenever anything is based on a true story, it's never going to be wholly accurate versus a colourful recounting.

Watching Avatar: Way of the Water, and.....I don't like it. I'm half way through, and while the 1st Avatar wasn't groundbreaking, it felt like a 30 minute movie. The sequel just slogs on.

The CGI of #1 was impressive, especially for the time. But, the only thing I can say about the sequel is....Ripley got turbo-fucked by a Navi!?

I'm on season 3 of Succession. It's VERY well acted, looks great, and Shiv's ass is otherworldly but I'm just kinda bored watching it. I'll finish it off but most episodes are "Did you make the deal? No, he made the deal. Well, is she in on the deal? Yes, but only if you're in on the deal.". Followed by another shot of 10 black luxury cars and a couple helicopters arriving at some luxurious location where the above conversation takes place. Repeat.

I know there are anti heroes but in this show, EVERYONE is an asshole. But it's decent.

I watched most of Search Party. After season 2 it goes off the rails, but it's still alright. There is some good satire/social commentary hidden in it.

Caught The Covenant on Amazon

I was a bit unsure as Guy Ritchie was directing and I was therefore expecting some wideboy antics, but it was a pretty solid film. Not going to win any awards, but solid performances, good action, and an engaging storyline. Firm recommend.

Holy shit this is bad. I don't know how I made it in an hour into this thing. It just completely meanders and it feels like a bunch of separate scenes mashed together instead of a cohesive, planned out story.

It reminds me of a non-comedy version of a shitty Adam Sandler comedy movie where they just take a bunch of stars and have them improv a paper-thin storyline and it all feels so disjointed. Except there's even less comedy in this one.

Daredevil (2003)

Holy shit is this trash worse than I remembered and I remembered it was utter garbage. The character (and role) are so shitty it hurts. The Evanescence soundtrack only reinefor4ced how shitty it is. Every character was poorly portrayed. That is something we hadnt seen since Batman & Robin.

They almost make Jenifer Garner sexy, so kudos there, but that is far from enough to warrant the film required to record.

TL;DR this is the ADA compliant subpar comic film.

Extraction 2

If you liked the first one and want to see Chris Hemsworth murder the shit out of Georgian Gangsters for around 2 hours or so in some pretty impressive and lengthy fight scenes, then this is well worth your time.

Also goddamn it, but his buddy/sidekick Nik (Golshifteh farahani ) is absolutely smoking (static pictures don't do her justice).

Ending seems to set up the potential for a 3rd film which I hope happens.

I TRIED to re-watch Battlefield Earth (2000) with Rifftrax and had to tap out. I made it 53m in to this 1hr58m train wreck. Its bad. Oh so bad. Like acid burns on your face and junk bad. IDK how I ever got through this shitshow the first time. Even the Rifftrax jokes couldn't bring enough entertainment to justify keep watching.

And the really fucked up part is that, at its very core, its a decent plot/concept that actually has some fairly deep messages. But it is just so incredibly poorly cast, written and produced. I mean the 5inch platform boots the Psychlos wear to make them look "tall" are beyond laughable.

Very good, but just shy of great. Not every joke hit, and the script was a bit predictable. Too silly to take the plot/action seriously overall, though there were definitely some great gags throughout.

I couldn't help but compare it to the superior Shaun of the Dead which I prefer.

Clearly you havent seen Bad Boys 2.

Done with my Mad Men re-watch. Still a good show, but man did it get very boring in spots. I really disliked major segments of the last couple seasons.

I watched the first season and it was the most boring thing I've ever seen in my life

The first couple episodes had me convinced I didn't want to continue when I first watched it. Then gave it another chance years later and ended up going through the whole series. It's pretty good. There are some major strengths, but I can feel the mind virus rotting it from the inside as it went into it's later seasons.
