Control Ultimate Edition... this is fantastic, I'm glad I waited for PS5 to play it but now I want to see how my PC compares as I can play it on Gamepass. Really loving the game so far, one of those games where I read literally every document because I actually want to and they're all interesting.

Yeah, Control really is a fantastic game, I should replay it again now that I got my 3070. The 1080 struggled on 3440*1440. And I agree, one of the very few games I actually read most of the documents you pick up.

I'm playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 at the moment for the GameCube. I played it way back in 2004 and I am enjoying the nostalgia playing it again. The music is interesting, getting the late 90s early 2000s feels.

Edge of Eternity on PC and I got to admit this the most impressive early access game. I don't usually do early access but this game is something else

I might hold off till the official release in June

At about 57 hours in, I am now going to try to finish Cyberpunk 2077. It has some charm but on the whole it feels like a wasted opportunity, as the city is devoid of character and it just feels like a shooting gallery. Together with the non existent AI and the terrible car handling, the endless looting and the lack of decent small side quests, it relies on the main quest and two three major threads for delivering the goods. Comparing it to The Witcher 3, which is one of my all time favorite games, it pales in comparison. And I have hardly experienced any of the bugs others have, except some graphical glitches.

There isn't a bunch of little quests all with their own awesome stories?

That was my favorite part of Witcher 3. 😕

Most the side content is more combat oriented with the only story being through lore and such around the area. However there are some pretty big and interesting side quests, not sure how it compares to Witcher 3 in terms of that, though I made it pretty far into Witcher 3 I can't recall what counted as a side quest and what didn't besides stuff like cleaning a frying pan for some old lady lol

There are, but so far they seem completely uninteresting to me. The fact that I don't remember any of them and overall non stood out from the small sidequests says it all (to me at least).

The side quests in W3 were my favorite part of the game, too. The three witches, the baron ... incredibly well made quests which I still remember very well. There is nothing remotely like that in C, unfortunately.

Have you done the one with the political candidate... or sinnerman... or the one where you help the cop? The vending machine one? There's some very neat and memorably side quests in there.

Also... why is the Baron a side quest? Don't you have to do it to advance the game?

Yeah, sinnerman was good. The other two, a bit forgettable. And you are right, the baron quest is needed to progress the W3 story, but the witches is not and is probably one of the best quests I've seen in any game.

It is the same for me when it comes to FFXIII Lightning Returns. The main story is meh but the side quests are incredible. Not many games do that.

Yesterday I started Days Gone on PS4 and after about an hour it does seem like a very high quality game. I'm looking forward to playing it again today. It feels very refreshing that you can kill men, women and children in the game, I don't recall being able to do that since like Fallout 2.

Well so far it has only been zombie children but the moment I saw them I was like "oh great, another invincible enemy that is here only to make my life miserable by calling for help or something..." imagine my shock when they attacked me and I could fight back.

Oh trust me, I feel you. I went hard on them too 🤣

Started Last of Us II, this game is definitely more pozzed than the first but in terms of visuals/presentation no one really touches Naughty Dog, it's just unbelievable how well made this is. But it feels input laggy, can't tell if it's lag or the game has a grace period for getting context-sensitive actions right, but it reminds me of RDR 2, just this unbelievable polish to the visuals/presentation/storytelling plus opening drawers to slowly loot things and then massive input lag lol. Maybe I should wait for a PS5 update?

Probably just all that post-processing, visual awesomeness for something like the PS4? May be worth waiting, but Idk, a game you're enjoying is a game you're enjoying, regardless of what little visual updates may happen.

Yeah, the gameplay/visuals can't be denied. To me that makes it a little more tragic, because you can see what could have been. When this game actually hits story beats well (there's something I don't want to spoil later on), the whole thing comes together to be quite special.

It's kind of why I want the TLoU remake rumor to be true. All the visuals and gameplay, without any of the woke, or weird storytelling.

I'm really getting into No Man's Sky like I never have before. Multi-hour sessions.

I really feel like the next-gen update did it some massive favors. Finally running at 60 FPS (with accompanying controller lag reduction) is huge. At one point I was playing this a few years ago, at 20 FPS, it felt like. With that, and how much more detail the planets have (and crucially, beyond like ten feet), it just feels like a perennial ugly duckling is a whole new experience.

Also, with all the updates over... five years... has it really been that long? But with all the updates included, I'm finally hitting some Minecraft-like grooves with this.

If you have GamePass, or an old copy lying around that you haven't played in a while, I really recommend picking it back up.

I ended up just turning down the difficulty, it's just slightly not responsive enough for these controls, kept dying in that part where
you're Abbie and getting swarmed by zombies while protecting Tommy, I should have fired more bullets but I was playing like resources were limited and I needed to save them not realizing I wouldn't even be playing as Abbie after this lol, maybe when it swings back to her my resourcefulness will hve mattered? haha. I'm just not big on stealth/melee, if the game was all gun fights I'd probably leave the difficulty where it was but meh, I want the game to be RELATIVELY intense while I get through this story. Maybe a new game+ on a harder difficulty would do? I just realized I'm still typing in the spoiler section...
... I watched a few top 10 games of 2020 lists on Youtube, neither had this game but they did have some stupid crap, are people really that mad about some of these story choices? Like how is it deniable how well made this is? I usually prefer different style game design but Naughty Dog are friggin' masters at this style of game, like I'd prefer games be more open, have more choice, less cut-scenes and all that but if they're going to go that route they don't get much better than this. Though I've always been the type of person who while annoyed by woke stuff won't turn something down over it, like the MCU feels like it's headed for woke town but I'll prolly still watch their shit, though that's a little different, they AREN'T the best game in town for what they provide, still will probably tune in.

I will delve back in over the coming weekend to see what the last two updates offer to the game. I bought NMS on release (pre-ordered it, actually) and I spent 40 hours in the first few weeks but the boredom got to me, as well as the lack of structure.

Every time I tried it again, over the years, I felt the game overall improving significantly.

I would like to see better missions, though this might have improved already. Will give my thoughts when I spend a few hours on the new update.

The Last of Us Part II is simply amazing so far. The beginning had some woke window dressing but the main thrust of the plot doesn't feel hindered by woke trappings. Maybe Neil will get another lesson from Anita so the next game can be more pervasively woke? Either way, presentation is off the charts here, no one does this shit as well as Naughty Dog and while the stealth sections with the zombies are annoying to me I got to combat with humans and holy crap this shit is brutal. It's not the most fun combat in a game but it has this feel of authenticity, there's so many great animations for attacking people and how they react to being shot, their screams, pleas, begging for their life... just sublime. They continue to be great at organically getting you to go to the right place, the little open area was gorgeous, sure most buildings just had some loot in them but it was neat and made things more immersive, in fact most the stealth and combat sections have areas I don't explore because survival is more of a priority than exploration so it feels more open-ended as a result.

It's amazing up until the middle of the game where some really strange directorial choises were made. After that it falls apart at a breakneck pace.

Finished The Touryst on Series S a couple of days ago. 6 hours to finish 100%. I was going to day 1 it on Switch at launch but noped out when I saw the price to content ratio. Glad I got to play through it on Game Pass. It's a decent enough game, solid 7/10. Doesn't outstay its welcome. "Dungeons" are pretty shit, but thankfully you only spend about half-an-hour in them all together and the rest of the game is an island-hopping fetch-quest-'em-up. Looks bloody gorgeous on Series S, pretty sure it's running at 4K60.

Also managed to get just over half-way through Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair on Game Pass. Have it on Switch but ended up dropping it when 3D All Stars came out. It's superb. Enjoying it way more than I ever did the Retro DK games. The level design is far more interesting, the overworld is a game in its own right, the visuals have so much style and variation, especially when the extra FX are applied. I've done the first 10 levels both times sans a few T.W.I.T. coins here and there, I'm coming up on 100 now. 200 will probably be quite tricky, but I'm determined to 1000G this game. Ex-Rare done good.

I loved it the whole way through honestly, starting a new game+ run now.
genuinely thought it was a mess of a narrative. At the very least they should have had you play as Abby first, to get people used to her. Not sprung it on people.
I'd have started the game with her being choked by her own people, where Lev saves her from a hanging. That's a sympathetic scene, and would have been a good jumping off point to then explain how it got to that point through flashbacks. It would have also prepped people and they'd have been less angry about playing in the role of Joel's murderer.

Mother 3. I've wanted to play this for years. I think I might be close to finishing it. It has just been ok for me I'd rate it a 7. I enjoy the story for the most part but its just so dark and so different from Earthbound. Its something else entirely. I enjoy earthbound more in every single way. After reading all the raving reviews im a lil bummed it didn't click for me in that way.

They weren't trying to avoid you having a problem with playing as Joel's killer, though, lol. There's this idea that because it's a big blockbuster franchise it's gotta be palatable to mass audiences, but they made something that purposefully wanted to make you uncomfortable and unsure of things, it's great and good on Naughty Dog for making something like it instead of whatever safe, generic mush most people complaining wanted. Like I just transitioned to Uncharted: Lost Legacy and this is exactly the kind of light but fun thing I'm sure everyone mad could enjoy because LOL who cares about the story in this? By the end of TLOU II I preferred Abby to Ellie, tbh. But I think both are great characters and I hope they make a third game that pisses people off even more, I'm in.

That might have come across harsh but the entire internet seems to think they could tell this story better than its told and I'm like "nope." It reminds me of Chris Stuckmann doing his re-write of Batman v Superman which was just fucking painful.

I started playing Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen a few months ago. Got to the bit where you obtain the ability to turn into a werewolf, but I haven't managed to get back to it since. I want to do a chronological retro-run of all my old games, but I've just been too busy and distracted lately to get into it right now.

I picked up Cubism for VR today.

Normally, you could just show a trailer to someone, and they'd get it, but it's remarkable how much is lost from a real 3D environment.

It really reminded me of all the crazy interfaces in Minority Report and Iron Man. A neat 3D puzzle becomes something else, when you're holding the puzzle box, moving it around, and picking up and inserting pieces in wherever they go. I would get frustrated and rapidly throw the pieces out of the box, or flick one extra hard, and watch it fly 10 feet away then come back, lol.

It's crazy how a tactile experience adds so much to a simple concept.

Been playing a lot of Atomicrops on PS4. It's not exactly "Nuclear Stardew Valley". It's more of a proper arcade-ish rougelite, with permadeath and steeply-rising difficulty, random drops, random distribution of enemies, and gradual permanent upgrades.

I like it a lot, now that I've sunk more time into it and unlocked a few things. It's definitely not a game that overstays its welcome. Standard runs are only 20-30 minutes each, assuming you don't die faster than that. You're not investing a ton of time into your farm, therefore failure doesn't sting as bad. If it was slower-paced, I don't think I'd like it quite as much. The faster pace and sharper difficulty gives the game some real bite. I'm attempting runs on Year 3 difficulty and it's kicking my butt.

It's biggest strength, compared to other similar twin-stick roguelites, is that the farming/harvesting mitigates a lot of the randomness that plagues other randomized-dungeon roguelites. Improving your non-combat skills in farming give you much better payouts at the end of a season, which means superior gear. It wasn't until I mastered the farming part that I was able to more consistently reach fall/winter and beat the run. Cashflow, resource, and time management all matter, though only in the span of a 20 minute window, not a sprawling 10 week Stardew Valley savefile.

Thumbs up from me. recommended if you're a junkie for above-average twin stick shooters.

I played a whole 30 minutes of Final Fantasy 7 remake... maybe I'll play more... but LOL WTF is this shit. That speech I think his name is Barrett gives on the elevator ride??? lol, why does a soldier use a sword anyways lol like wtf is this game, why is there no exploration, why is the combat so basic? I DON'T GET IT

I am too tired to play anything
I'm kinda at that point too. Nothing in the industry really excites me anymore. I'm more interested in developing them myself. I'll probably get Nier Replicant, just because my ps3 is on the way out and it's a fantastic game. But this year, I've only bought MH Rise. Still haven't been able to bring myself to play it.
