Thread: The Witcher 3 PS5/Xbox Series/Pc update is coming Dec 14th (free to owners)
Holy shit... I was sure it had slipped to next year at this point.

I will be to play through the whole thing again, but probably early next year.

I have yet to play this game... fuck me it look like end of year for gaming is going to be nuts.

Good news. Might inspire me to continue my replay of TW1 which I left off at the beginning of Chapter 3, and then push through TW2.

Looking forward to the trailer drop next week.

Incredibly excited for this. One of my favorite games of all time. Hopefully I can finally finish it this time if I can keep my open world OCD under control...

I really enjoyed the storytelling but the combat got a bit meh after a while.
Not sure I want a replay when the backlog is already monstrous

I just started W3 on PC, and I don't have RT on my GPU. I'm not sure if I should wait or not.

If W3 adds a built in option to automatically loot 0 weight items then I'll wait, because it's such a time waster to manually select then loot each plant.

I did every side quest and just everything in W3, including the DLCs. No way I'm going to touch that game again because it's so massive. Loved the game, but I don't replay games for the most part.

That said, very curious about the visual upgrades.

There's not even enough new good games being released regularly for that.

I guess that really depends on the available gaming time, which is pretty limited in my case. I have a big backlog of great games that I don't have time to play because new ones keep coming out.

You could stop buying new shit and work on your backlog.

I try to balance it. Had a very good time playing Dishonored 2 from my backlog for example and always try to play some of my backlog gems, but I tend prioritize new games that get me hyped like the upcoming Callisto Protocol.

CD Projekt has launched a livestream for The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Update, in which they showcase the game's Ray Tracing effects. This video can give you an idea of what you can expect from this upcoming next-gen update that will be available to all owners of the base game.

The Witcher 3 Next-Gen will feature dozens of visual, performance, and technical enhancements over the original. Alongside RT, the game will include a variety of mods from the get-go. From what we know so far, CDPR will include the HD Rework Project.

CD Projekt RED has detailed the Ray Tracing effects for PC. The game will have RTGI and RTAO. Furthermore, CDPR has added some new Ultra+ settings that will push/stress a lot of GPUs, and has improved the game's SSR. Not only that but there will be support for both NVIDIA DLSS 2 and AMD FSR 2.0.

Call me a filthy graphics peasant if you will but... I just don't see any massive upgrade in the visuals. Sure the lighting is better, but other than that, it doesn't look much different from my base PS4 version of the game. The Witcher 3 was and still is a damn good looking game, but this next gen update doesn't really impress me. If the visuals had matched that of Red Dead Redemption 2 then maybe there'd be something to hype about.

I think it looked quite nice from that short video. Metro Exodus comes to mind as an example of a game doing a good job with RTGI. There's just a convincingness to the lighting that is hard to pinpoint or show in a screenshot or short video. And it makes the game so impressive while playing it that goes beyond simple things like texture quality. And I get that feeling here a little bit.

The trailer didnt really impress except for the quick few snippets of actual gameplay. Those seem to show the biggest improvements but they hardly showed it. Watching the full presentation now.

NGL I've played the shit out of TW3 and I'm hard pressed to notice any significant changes in that trailer. Looks like The Witcher 3.

Maybe my memory of the original is overly charitable, but I honestly didn't notice any difference in that trailer.

Can't hate on free, though, so I'll happily give it a try after it releases and decide for myself.

Having played on PC with beyond-max settings, I didn't really notice much of a difference in the trailers shown thus far, so I hope it'll be more obvious to me when I eventually fire it up. I'll be disappointed if it's just a subtle improvement to the lighting and the inclusion of already-available mods. That said, free is free - I just hope all the hype is because it's worth hyping, and not just them wanting to get people warmed back up to the IP in prep for their new games. 🤷‍♂️

I'm going to withhold judgment until we have more than a low framerate trailer and a brief 1080p walkthrough with blurry video. Global Illumination is a massive game changer for immersion, so hopefully thieir ray traced solution will be good. A lot of it does indeed look familiar but it's not like they were going to release a high resolution texture pack, the game already had really good ones. Some of the wider shots do look pretty stunning though and I think reflections next to the massive rivers and lakes in the game are going to be fantastic.

Excited to check out FSR2.0. It's not why I bought my card and I have an aversion to running games lower than native but it should be fun to tweak with and see what kind of results you can achieve.

What a bizarre thing to say. There are tons of games releasing constsntly across all four+ devices to game on. The amount of choice these days is overehelming. I'm like @regawdless though, I very very rarely replay a game. I barely have enough time to play a single game and by the time I'm done five others have released that I want. And when it comes to giant epic games like RDRII I played that fuckin thing exclusively for six months ffs

The operative word here is "good" games and there's nothing bizarre about it but thanks for the late af commentary I guess.

The original certainly didn't look this muddy on my PC, but it does look like the lighting changes are rather significant.

Indeed looks great. I listened to the broadcast they did and there are a lot of additional QoLupdates included as well. Kind of crazy that they're doing so much and giving it away free, however, the inclusion of Chinese Langauge support likely means that they're looking to do well there in terms of potential new sales.

It does look a lot better, especially the lighting. People tend to not remember accurately how bad older games actually look.
Like when The Las of Us remake had footage posted and I was like "Oh yeah I guess that looks a bit better." But then the comparisons come up and I'm like wow nevermind, my memory of the original and remaster was quite generous lmao

Way too many games releasing that I want to play. Can't even keep up. Need to do the one and done approach. My time is limited and I rather experience new games than replaying ones that I already finished.

Same for movies.
I'm the exact same way. I find it odd people spend so much time replaying their favorite games but to each their own.

I'm stoked for this since I've never played the game but if I had I wouldnt give it another look.
