Thread: STARFIELD |OT| No Man's Skyrim
Official Thread
Ok finished main quest and story. I thought it was pretty good! The last mission was pretty hard for me because of the choices I had made. I liked the ending too.
I decided to become starborn and touch the unity. So do I now just go and find new artificers and powers? Shame I couldn't keep the two sweet weapons I got from the hunter and emissary though!

I ain't going to read it , but well done duder. Thats some going.

Attempting Tier V of Vanguard Simulator. Fucking bullshit had 1 ship left, attempting numberous attempts to use astroids as cover and they just auto track me. Can't get behind into blind spots because two other covering ships proceed to down my shields and systems. Game even fucking crashed to desktop.

Also getting to pilot a simulated Class B Destroyer is making me realize just how badly the Frontier is not designed for heavy combat.

I wasn't really interested in starting an outpost, but I'm now reading that they're a pretty powerful way to generate XP (to the point where she people are making game-breaking XP games out of them).

Might take a look at setting up a simple one - levelling up the skill tree seems to be pretty slow going so far without one.

PC Gamer tanking any credibility people had in them with this relentless clickbait

It's so funny to hear people sucking Baldur Gate penis in the press and using that to trash Starfield, like two great games can't coexist at once. It shows me how cynical and jaded these motherfuckers are. Two great games just came out apparently -- enjoy them! The fuck is wrong with these pissy assholes? I mean, the hilarious irony in people like Jim Sterling who had a sandy vagina way before ever claiming to actually be a woman talking shit about what is evidently a great game is beyond ludicrous to me. These people are fucking parodies -- parodies of women and parodies of game journalists, if such a thing even exists anymore really.

Can take down 2 ships but not before my shield and systems are disabled and I'm dead in the fucking water before they can come back online.

Attempting to reach astroid for cover via boost. Up to 450 speed but when boost runs down drop down to 100. What the absolute fuck!?

Edit - Somehow got past level V to VI. Yeah I'm done with the sim level VI makes the already absurd V look like a cake walk.

Vanguard Early Quest line Spoilers

UC what do you mean you mass produced and actually deployed alien life forms for warfare against other humans what the absolute fuck? That's Wayland-Yutani tier levels of evil.

Not sure how mechs were outlawed alongside xenomorphs, I mean terrormorphs. Would think both sides would make use of mechs, and mechs would be far more controllable, easy to maintain then walking crimes against nature that also have mind control!? holy fuck who thought this was a good idea?

At least I got a nice Vanguard space suit and starship upgrades...

DF video:
- DLSS looks way better and also runs better than FSR2.
- Series X uses a mix of low and medium settings with some that cannot be replicated on PC because they're customized.
- Huge advantage for AMD cards, very out of the norm.
- Very spiky frame times with Nvidia cards on ultra settings, while there's no issue on AMD cards. It's the shadow settings, going from ultra to high fixes frame times.
- Game is significantly underperforming on Intel cards.
- Very CPU heavy.
- Fucked CPU utilization, Hyperthreading on Intel CPUs reduced performance.
- But works on AMD chips and increases performance....

So, I get that this definitely plays like a Bethesda game.

But it is not Elder Scrolls or Fallout.

But definitely a Bethesda game. The sooner those who are a little bit disappointed let go of their expectations of this somehow forwarding Elder Scrolls/Fallout style games, the sooner they can enjoy what's really good about this thing.

I find this game to be profoundly disappointing. Bad performance, terrible AI, bland NPCs and dialogue, jank everywhere, lack of QoL (maps & inventory in particular), and just an overall lack of polish and quality.

It's like they said, well, all of our past games have been large-scale bug & jank fests, but people keep buying them and modding our mistakes, so why change?

I lasted 20 hours. Just uninstalled. Maybe if I hadn't spent the last month playing BG3, which is about as high-quality as it gets, I'd be more receptive to this mid-tier slog, but, I did, so, I'm not.

Watching the DF PC analysis right now

Now I know why I can't believe people keep talking about how bad the game looks. The Xbox version is significantly lower quality than the game at Ultra settings on a PC. I was playing today and trying to figure out what game this generation beats this on a PC and I can only come up with CP2077 path tracing. Dead Island 2 uses UE4 very well and uses a very good lighting/AO model but that game isn't even dynamic TOD. Control, Metro LL, etc.. all look worse than Starfield PC. Not to say this game is perfect. Because they do have to fix the eyes on NPCs and the animations are jank. But when talking about rendering and lighting and volume fog and texture resolution... it's up there with the big dawgs.

I'm really enjoying it. I'm going on week 2 from not playing BG3. There is just so much that I have to do that it draws me back. I'm sure I'll get tired of it eventually and go back to BG3 but it's not right now.

The game runs really well on my 4080 so I don't have any bad performance although I need to try the DLSS mod. I also haven't seen much jank but did run into one bug so far. Outside of that I think the game has been great. A lot of fun for me at least.

I just had the same thing happen to me as well same Tier as well. Could be a bug with that section. Truthfully though, I figure you likely need to go back there when you have a bunch of flight upgrades as they boost your damage as well as shield recovery.

Also...I went to the Mantis planet but got hailed from somewhere when I jumped in but no nearby ships so thought 'it's gotta be this settlement' So I landed there, got to the settlement, no missions or anything, but this big assed UC cargo ship there.

I'm like 'Is anyone at home?'

Me: 'You're my ship now Dave'

3 Crew slots, and over 2300K storage capacity and still A Class.

It's going to sting me 80K or so on the registration, but, it's pretty nice.

I went and got the Mantis as well. However, that was more for the armour.

Good result today in terms of gains.

Mod is pretty easy to install.

On my 3070Tin I find the game runs pretty well with it on custom settings at around 67% scaling, with a 4080 you should be golden.

The only thing I notice is a couple of seconds of slowdown when initially entering an area, but it goes really quickly. Though that might be some CPU bottleneck perhaps.

I will say that the dialogue and voice acting are pretty damn bad coming straight from Baldur's Gate 3. Honestly a lot of it feels a bit low effort or even procedurally generated (?) in this area.

I haven't noticed anything when it comes to the main characters. They all sound good for the most part. Most NPCs are a bit more generic, however, I haven't yet felt I've heard the same VA anywhere noticeably.

Level 19 and recently finished the Rangers quest on Akila. If you have any reservations about doing it just go for it. Probably my favorite side quest so far.

Also level 19 and just finished that! Good story and lots of good gunfights towards the end. Really good reward for finishing it too. Moving on up in the universe!

Wonder if my 1070 will get any improvement from this.

Oh what a coincidence.

who is this ugly thing?

God what a fucking turd.
At least from the selfie angle it looks like he lost quite a bit of weight. He's still probably going to punch out before the age of 50 though, just for a different reason.

It sucks sometimes, cause when I first started watching him in 2015 he had some pretty good takes about shitty business practices that have only gotten worse as the years pass by. Then he went full Commie, and trooned out. Wasted potential.

Yea man. I hate to say it but even though BG3 is a complete beast of a game -- I'm not sure I like it over Starfield. I'm really digging into this game and finding all kinds of new shit that Bethsoft games reward people who explores their sandbox. I'll see when I reach the same amount of hours played as BG3 (and I haven't even gotten to Act 3 in BG3).

I think it's the other way around. I would assume that they had PCs at MAX settings when developing the game and just scaled down to the Xbox .exe version. If the game had been in development for over 25yrs then they definitely used the PC as their development platform.

Depends on where you land. The vegetation is years behind its competition (and artistically I think it's a complete failure). Places like the Earth landmarks are as abstract as anything in TES Arena. If you stick to the main quests you will get a tour of some very boring and repetitive locations.

Unbelievable what kind of salt and console warring this game causes

To be fair when that went down I was a bit, what's happening? The game is basically introducing this new pacification mechanic but it's not particularly well done honestly, and the UC security guards just standing there didn't help matters.

After much reading performance tips and fucking around on my mid range PC I have the game running with dips no lower than 40fps in New Atlantis MAST area (most demanding area of the game I've found ). This means gsync works fine so game is smooth and very playable and looks amazing.

Specs

3070 ASUS OC undervolted to 0.900 with 1000Mhz boost to memory
Intel 12400F (6 P-cores)
16GB RAM

DLSS mod with 75 upscaling from 1080p to 1440p

Enabled resizable BAR using nvidia inspector

ReBar feature ENABLED
ReBar options 0x00000001 (Battlefield V, Returnal, Assassin's Creed Valhalla....)
ReBar size limit 0x0000000040000000 (Battlefield V, F1 2022, F1 2021, Assassin's Creed Valhalla...)

Used alternative graphics preset from this mod - using the Ultra preset, still looks amazing.

Nvidia control panel settings

16x AF (need to delete cache in appdata/local/startfield when switching)
Prefer maximum performance
Antialiasing gamma correction off
Anisotropic sample optimisation on
Negative LOD bias allowed

Used process lasso to turn off hyperthreading for starfield.exe, also excluded from Pro Balance and enabled bitsum high performance mode
Windows graphics settings high performance.

Only thing I've seen occasionally is that the game freezes for few seconds but this happens seldom enough that it's not an issue for now.

I wonder if Microsoft are able to get the fake 1000th negative reviews removed from metacritic, or if its also an exclusive for Sony. 🤔
