For $1.59 maybe???

Also the Mirage Feathers demo is out and very, very good. I actually ended up playing with a mouse in my left hand and arcade stick buttons in my right. Felt great! Oddballs with proper analog arcade or flight stick are in for a treat... or a you can use a gamepad or whatever.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up dude! Bought Rasant, looks like it's right up my alley.

DEVIL BLADE REBOOT
DBR_01.gif

Overview

Devil Blade, a 1996 indie shmup released only in Japan, gets a full remake almost a quarter century later, taking advantage of the latest technology.

An immersive pseudo-3D experience that pushes the limits of pixel art. A perfect fusion of background music and evolving stage design, only possible in a SHMUP! A seamless presentation that connects all scenes in one cohesive package.

"Dodge, shoot, and destroy" without any extra baggage. A stoic design concept that pursues the primitive catharsis of Shmups to the extreme.

Destroying enemies in close vicinity dramatically increases both the difficulty and your score. With the Berserk System, dangerous play is the best choice, as high risk brings high reward.

Features

【2D pixel art graphics with an obsessive level of detail】

Rendered in the original 320x240 resolution of the classics, but with visuals that defy the limits of pixel art! Experience immersive pseudo-3D, making use of modern techniques such as multiple parallax scrolling, and zoom effects.

【Berserk System】
Dramatically increase the difficulty and score by destroying enemies in close proximity! The difficulty level varies greatly depending on your play style. From beginners who just want to clear the game, to advanced players aiming for a high score, the game is designed to be enjoyed by anyone who is interested in shmups.

【Retro Mode】
This is an Arrange mode of "Devilblade" created in Dezaemon+ in 1996 with the Berserk system added and with the same atmosphere as the original. You can enjoy the reboot version and the retro version, both old and the new.

This is SO GOOD!!! Wild doujin scoring numbers but a really elegant system… proximity to downed enemies increases a "berserk" multiplier, when that goes over 100, enemies get agitated and stronger, and you can keep the meter up… you can also spend a bomb to increase your meter gain by 5x… you can keep doing that!!

Really cool and interesting patterns, some really clever 3D elements every once in a while - rail shooter sequel dodging, and so many "reflex lasers"… where the laser telegraphs you the path and you have a second to dodge, but layered and with bullet patterns on top.

The hardest part of "survival" is how fun it is to score. Don't know the extends off-hand but it makes scoring feel very viable.

Automatic replay saves for your top 3 scores in each mode, nifty unlocks for arranged OSTs and "retro" versions.

This is going to be something special.

I feel like Cygni is never gonna come out...
They're pretty active on twitter. Been posting a lot of "behind the scenes" stuff, showing the game at IGNLive (whatever that is), and implemented changes from the last demo feedback... seems like they're ramping up!

that's good to hear. Felt like it was announced forever ago.

One man indie project, looking cool. Very early of course, no real enemy attack etc.

I've been seeing these tweets…. if the game has the chops, the graphics so far are SOLID! Love the focus on detail of the explosions. His previous upload of the grounded enemy destruction was really good

Yeah I love the style, it bugs me that there aren't many great looking shmups out there, it's often the same old style. Would like to have some more creativity. Gimme physics, destruction etc. I guess I'm spoiled by Resogun.

If you guys wanted to hear my rant about Devil Blade REBOOT, the mind-poison of review culture, titty men vs. ass men, the Western launch "controversy" and Dune 2 for some reason, I am at your service.

Dude, your graphics vs sound = titties vs ass analogy was amazing and I 1100% agree. Cheers my dude!

Time stamped, you cunts should watch and listen to this wise man.

Got back into Aka to Blue and I love it. Although I love traditional shmups and a traditional arcade stick, I really think touch-screen shmups are the next evolution of the genre.

An arcade machine with a large touch screen below (to not obscure the action) would be a dream.

After I'll I spent in modding arcade sticks I fucking hope not!!!!
I need to practice more with a touchscreen… I always underestimate the mobile experience and end up blocking where I need to be looking. I think you're right though, and also shmups that have analog ship control feel like they ought to be the next "danmaku" shift everyone apes, and yet…

Thanks man!!! I'll try and keep 'em coming:)

"Ass is the thinking man's titties" is an all time quote.

Great video man. Please stick with it. You have a very personable style and great energy. I'm not a shmup player but this video has me hovering over a purchase...

Thanks AB this is the best compliment! I'm really trying to bring that novice enthusiasm to a niche genre so I'm glad it comes through:)

Tap dodging is cool and all, but moving wherever your finger takes you is a definite advantage.

Makes older shmups easier, yeah. But you could design a game around the touch-screen and make bullet patterns harder to compensate.

Much more tactile and immediate.

Fair! I'm always impressed with really well done analog controls like in Darius, Graceful Explosino Machine, and the Panda Inde Studio games (Z-Warp, Void Gore, Feeble Light) -- makes sense touch would be a further extension of it, but same time the level design has to be specific I have Danmaku Unlimited 3 on my phone and it feels like straight up cheating lol

I gotta get Aka To Blue on a tablet... the phone ain't cutting the mustard.

RPM - Road Punk Mayhem (or RPM-RPM for short :p) is Panda Indie Studio's latest shooter.
Probably their most straightforward shmup (not endless, digital 8-way) but with their signature circle bullet clear and warp mechanic, it's high energy, super fun, and moreish.
P.I.S. is niche within niche, but the cult fans (who actually know it came out lol) are jockeying on the leaderboard and it's really easy to place in the top ten. The dozen of us going hard are having a blast hahaa

Easy $4 fun, or $6 including Switch tax.

Thought I'd link these as the 360 store closes in 4 days and it might be worth picking these up for Shmup fans.

Anyone familiar with these titles? @Spiders @DonDonDonPata

Oh heck yeah.

Muchi Muchi Pork is very unique and goofy. Theme is cartoony and feels like a Psykio shmup (e.g. Gunbird). Well worth a look.

Pink Sweets is okay. If you love Battle Garegga then you might like Pink Sweets. If you don't know what Battle Garegga is, then don't bother imo, there are better picks on this list.

DDP Saidaioujou is exceptional. I played through this on a 360 hooked through VGA into a 17" CRT PC monitor and it was a visual treat. Several different modes means if you like it, you'll have a literal lifetime of shmupping in one game. Your ship is always at "max shot" (you don't collect or lose Power Ups for your shots like most), but you can level up a Hyper meter to amp up your damage even more. More Hyper levels means more damage (I think?) and longer Hyper duration. Truly a top shelf shmup

Futari is okay. Dinosaurs and bugs are a very cool theme, and I like how powerful you get if you stay alive and max out your shot. It's not my favorite but for some, it's the best CAVE game. Definitely look up some footage.

Lastly, it wasn't in your list but Espgaluda 2 is worth getting for 360. Really noob-friendly mechanics that let you slow down bullets (making it easier) at the tap of a button, which drains a refillable gauge. There are bombs and Power Ups too, but the main draw is filling up your slowdown supply to make certain sections "easy" when you need it. This is another shmup to last a lifetime like Saidaioujou

I grabbed Mushihimesama Futari, but haven't spent much time in it. It's very fun but maybe a bit underwhelming for all the hype. I enjoy Espgaluda II much more.

Haven't played the others, just watched reviews and STG Weekly commentated runs.

I did grab KOF Sky Stage and some other oddballs I think are going *poof* when the store closes.

Apparently, on the xbox site there is a sale for the 360 Backwards Compatible games and the sale hasn't really been advertised. Some good shmups I saw are below, note that I think this sale ends tomorrow so you have to be quick if you are interested:

Radiant Silvergun 7.49

Ikaruga 4.99

Midway Arcade Origins (1980's compilation - 31 games, a few classics shmups) 4.99

Shred Nebula 2.49

Not a lot, but great prices for Ikaruga and Radiant Silvergun if you don't have them (though probably everyone reading this thread probably does). Ikaruga is up there as one of my favorites.

Grain of salt. This image is on X and reddit… someone said there's a kotaku post but I'm not finding out or trusting it:
