Really disappointed by their marketing "efforts". I understand that it's not a big game like GoW R and it's only a PC port. But man, there's just nothing to get the excitement going. No new trailer, no interesting tweets, nothing. Hell, not even one new screenshot. Like, it takes so little effort. Crank everything up, take 5 screenshots, post them on Twitter. It takes half an hour.
Fuck man, I think I really need an ultra wide monitor. My wallet is already dead though.
The wait is over, encrypting the game. But have to take care of the kids first, will play it in like 4-5h.
- PS5: 2560x1440p/60fps* (reconstructed from 1080p)
- Steam Deck: Low Settings | 1280x800p with FSR
- PC: Max. Settings | RT ON | 3840x2160p | i9 12900K | 16GB DDR4 / 32GB DDR5 | RTX 4080 / 4070Ti / 3080 /3070Ti / 3060Ti / 3050
- Returnal on PC receives numerous visual improvements over PS5.
- On PC, we get better textures, particles, post-processing effects, lighting and shadows.
- After testing the title with 16GB DDR4 (Housemarque recommends 32GB), the result is satisfactory. I would only recommend those 32GB of ram if we intend to play at maximum, 4K and Ray-Tracing.
- The PC version adds Ray-Tracing for some shadows and reflections. This option also adds extra puddles that are not present if we disable RT.
- On Steam Deck its performance is insufficient. With all settings on low, the framerate drops below 30fps during combat. I would not recommend playing it on this platform.
- If using a Gamepad, this game is perfect for advanced controllers like the Xbox Elite Controller.
- Returnal is the game with more differences and visual improvements of all Playstation Studios games on PC with respect to PS5. A great title that no one should miss if you like Roguelite.
Epic Launcher? Stutter? Gtfo...Had 10 min to boot it up and connect accounts etc.
Very weird, it uses the Epic Launcher despite being on Steam.
I only had time to go through the settings, which are freaking amazing, you can adjust everything, it even has raytraced audio.
BUT apparently it has stutter issues no matter the hardware and even though it does shader compilation when launched. What the fuck.

Returnal PC Port Impressions - Hello Stutter My Old Friend
Returnal PC is out now. Here's our performance test of Housemarque's acclaimed roguelike third-person bullet hell shooter game.wccftech.com
Epic Launcher? Stutter? Gtfo...
Valve should be doing a lot more to block games from requiring other launchers.
LMAO Epic launcher?
Hope it bombs.
Any face mods yet?
It's only one window when you first launch the game. And I learned that it has nothing to do with the game running through the EGS. It's just a service to enable cross play between Steam and EGS players when doing coop.
Do you have to install anything?
LMAO Epic launcher?

It automatically installs an "Epic overlay" at the first launch, but you never see it again and it's only there for cross store coop.
Played a bit and first of all, the options in this game are EXCELLENT.
You can adjust so much shit, it's just great. The game explains the options well, there's raytraced sound, you can turn off every little individual HUD element etc. When you go to the graphics options, you can directly see how it affects your game and it also shows you how it affects your fps, CPU and GPU load, VRAM etc. (top of the screen). You can also see how taxing every option is on your CPU, GPU and VRAM. Example screenshots:

The game is tough. I managed to get the sword and then reach the first boss yesterday, but died half way through his last bar.
I would have liked a bit something more being permanent between deaths tbh.
Really fun to play though.

I'll just say that the first 5 hours or so feel way harder than the next 5.
You start getting upgrades for weapons that are permanent and you start really figuring out how to build yourself up to be overpowered.
If you want a tip (I don't think it's a spoiler, but just in case):
Regular green health drops that would normally just heal you become resins if you are at full health. So, staying at full health has the huge benefit of making resins which then increase your health bar
Thanks, I had noticed that about the hint (though this is not permanent, if I'm not mistaken).
What permanent weapon upgrades? How do I get them?
