Pre-Ordered on Steam, didn't go for a key because I want to support the devs here.

I'm supporting my favorite devs... just from an unspecified third world country and/or with a promotional copy bundled with someones third world graphics card/complementary gifted copy.

I bought it for $70 from Sony's direct site. No one supported these devs like a simp more than that! :ROFLMAO:

It'll be interesting seeing what you guys think of it finally, now that it's on a machine you tell yourself is worthy of playing videogames. Your new hand-me-down port will finally give you a use for that $4,000 paperweight! (lol but seriously this game is really damn good)

Hehe as I've said, it nearly made me buy a PS5 :) Curious how the game will run. I only have 16GB of RAM and they recommend a whopping 32GB.

Pricing is very interesting. On Sonys store for PS5, it's 80 bucks for the standard and 90 bucks for the digital deluxe edition. PC pre-order on Steam costs 60 bucks and gives you:

PRE-PURCHASE OFFER

Steam_prepurchase_beautyshot.png

Pre-purchase now to get early access to the following in-game items (otherwise obtainable via story progression):

  • Electropylon Driver weapon.
  • Hollowseeker weapon.
  • One Reflex Stimulant.
  • One Pulsating Mass artefact.
  • One Adrenaline Booster.

STEAM EXCLUSIVE OFFER

Link your Steam account with your account for PlayStation™Network and unlock two in-game outfits while your accounts are linked:

  • ASTRA Model 9 Prototype Suit.
  • ASTRA Model 14 Tactical Suit.

Let's see how my 3080, 8700k and 16GB will be able to handle the game. The colors seem to be pretty great, so this game is a lock for couch play on my OLED. On my desktop, I'd settle for 1440p with RT maxed, but on my TV I prefer the native 4k. Let's see how much DLSS will help. Would most likely disable RT shadows if performance becomes an issue but keep the reflections.

I'm a little bit disappointed by the pre-order bonus, that it's just the suits that are known from the PS5 version. I would've liked to see an alien style badass suit. Don't know if any other suits are in the game though.

Hmmm... I wonder why they want to link accounts.

16 is probably fine. Maybe just accounting for idiots with 90 chrome tabs open with icue/razor bloatware.

I guess they want to have the data about how many people buy it on PC despite having a PS account.

We've seen Sony games with RT being very RAM hungry and heavy on the CPU, so I think it makes some sense. Without RT, 16GB should be totally fine.

Oh man I hope so much this game won't be another stutter struggle gate. But seeing how much effort went into this version, I would be surprised if it will have that. It'll be a very demanding game at high settings though, no doubt. Looking forward to his video.

You'll need top of the line if you want a PC game to at least run at PS5 settings these days :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Can't wait to hear about all the runs that end because of a stutter

It's a weird mix. GPU wise, the PS5 GPU is basically a 2070 Super (raster perfromance, in RT the 2070S is stronger). But consoles are pretty damn efficient and well designed regarding their CPU and RAM. Especially when pushing visual settings and targetting high fps on PC, the games can get really freaking CPU heavy. Matching PS5 settings often isn't that hard tbh, but going above that can be crazy.

And then there's shader compilation stutter :D

Check out all the different weapons! There were weapons I didn't like at all until I was stuck with them and leveled them up begrudgingly. Then suddenly they became my favorites after aspects of them unlocked.

Man I'm jealous of you guys getting to try this fresh. Wish I could do it all again haha

Will keep that in mind, thank you! Housemarque made some of my favorite games of all time, they always deliver great gameplay. Can't wait.

To me that's the only problem and unfortunately, it'll persist for the forseeable future. Since PCs have varying hardware, it's going to be difficult to pin that down.

I don't think the consoles have some super optimized code that the PC SKUs can't get. The consoles just have fixed hardware and developers can manually hardcode variables and settings without worrying about it changing.

If you are trying to imply that a PC needs a high-end GPU in order to get similar performance to a PS5 (which runs < 4k 99% of the time), then you are way off from your calculations.

No preload here I guess.

Either way, kinda feels like Sony isn't putting any marketing budget into this. Even the Housmarque Twitter account doesn't really do much to hype the game. This is the best they can do:

Feels pretty quiet around this game. No previews, no coverage, no videos.

Uncharted and Sackboy (the last two releases) were pretty similar in that regard.

Yes and no. Consoles generally don't have entirely bespoke game code written for them anymore, but when properly leveraged, the tools available are often more refined and of a greater degree of optimal performance than an equivelant PC, should equal optimisation be done for both specs.

And that's even before you get into the fact that there's far more risk of software conflicts on PC, as it's not a dedicated gaming device, so even just the operating system can sometimes cause unexpected problems for a game, before adding in driver support and potential user installed software conflicts.

It's part of why Steam Deck manages to punch above it's weight. Linux is already a low intensity OS, and Valve further stripped back and optimised it purely for gaming, above all other considerations.

The tools can be refined sure but in this case, you are talking about UE which is already a multiplatform game engine to begin with. You also mentioned equivalent PC. We are talking about a PC that is much more powerful than the latest consoles. This will forever be the case as PC GPUs will always be generations ahead of the consoles.

Yup. Will always be a caveat with running games with the PC.

Agree here but the main reason the Steam Deck is punching above it's weight is because of the low backbuffer resolutions compared to most games having to render backbuffers at full res. 1280x800 is pretty low and frees up a lot of bandwidth. It's the number 1 optimization you can do for a console --- ie. lowering the render resolution so that all the other pipeline operations can be done with less samples.
