Thought I was going to be able to play saints and sinners chapter 2 this afternoon since it let me download it and it said releases on 20th… still have to wait until later tonight? Re8?? Nope! Pavlov!

For me, (NA) it said the 21st.

Just took it for a spin before bed and… My God. It is beautiful. That is some sharp, clean, colorful VR!

Received the headset and controllers from the repair center. Came in the box that the retail version comes in minus all the extras. It was a new serial number, so not sure if new or refurbished.

Put a cord protector on it, set it up and played RE Village. Holy fucking cow....I spent the time I had only playing in the gun range in the tutorial. It was clunky trying to grab the shotgun and first aid but once you have a gun in your hands, it was awesome! Although, the square button would not bring up my inventory to replace a fuse.....so, I hope that was just something a reset could fix.

Also picked up Smoke and...I forget...that survival game and the device came with Horizon Throw Alloy off the Mountain. I really want to try the Star Wars game and Demeo.

This confused me at first as well. When you get to the fuse box you'll see the picture of the fuse in front of you appear. Just reach out and grab the picture to use it.

Lol, makes sense. Also going to pick up those prescription lenses for the thing a bit too tight with my glasses.

Also, can you recommend any games I should pick up?

Saints and Sinners for sure. Just played a bit of part 1 and I have to say, they did a great job upgrading it to PSVR2.

Also if you're into team tactical shooters, try Pavlov.

Tetris, Rez, and Thumper are also excellent.

Not really liking this C-Smash VRS demo at all.

It just doesn't feel good to play IMO. It's also pretty annoying that it's a 60fps game. There's no excuse for that. I'm not opposed to big, major games having VR modes and needing to be 60fps for sane technical reasons. But this is a tiny, low-poly, low-texture arena VR game. It should be 120fps native, let alone 90. But come on now, at least 90.

Played a few hours of Resident Evil Village, my first vr experience. Holy shit man! Maybe I'm just like an old guy that is amazed by a phone that can also send emails but I was blown away at the very beginning where you're holding the baby and can look down at it and your wife is right there speaking to you.

Also, the fucking immersion while walking in the dark woods or a dark building with a flashlight…wow.

Also played Horizon Mountain. Alloy is actually attractive in VR!! I was shocked. I tried to touch her and she reacted. Very cool. Great graphics, LOTS of climbing. So far so good.

Still have that Smoke game and I'll pick up Saints and Sinners. Very impressive so far.

I am a little afraid A lot of devs are going to use reprojection as a crutch instead of trying to nail down a great 90hz experience…

My poor brother. His launch day unit had the defective controllers. He tried to just use workarounds and avoid games that didn't function and enjoy it for a few weeks while waiting to see if Sony was doing anything about it, or if it was software, shit like that.

But he did a return/exchange and got a brand new one back. He plugs it in and it powers up but the PS5 doesn't recognize it's there and there's no video on the headset's screen. More hours of troubleshooting and attempting different things and now he's set up to send this 2nd unit back. Maybe his 3rd will actually work...

Tbh that's not good - quality control is clearly not up to scratch. The question I'd have to ask is whether there's actually a problem with his PS5 rather than the plugged-in hardware?

With it being two completely unrelated issues (controller inputs for one unit, display/cable issue with the other unit), I feel like he's just gotten really unlucky. The controller issue seemed really common with thousands of replies and dozens of threads on reddit, but this second issue is harder to find info for.

It's not just that it isn't showing video in the headset, but it's not even being recognized as being connected at all (which never happened on the first unit). So it makes me feel like something is wrong with the cable or some internal component, potentially. Went through a list of things for him to try and he said nothing changed it. So he waits for the weekend to drop if off at the FedEx location and waits another week.

Which version of Saints and Sinners do I buy? Is there a bundle? It's very confusing with all the little add ons.

Dude, they made it so stupidly confusing on which versions need an upgrade, which ones can't get an upgrade, etc. Then, they even had some issue with the bundle not being right.

But here's a US store link if that's where you're at:

Thanks guys! My Honsvr lenses also came in so I'll see how those are this weekend when I get a chance to play.

While 270K sounds low, it is a $550 accessory/peripheral. And that's for a single month of sales of a device that you can currently only get through Sony's direct site in the US. If it kept up that pace, it's like 3M units for the first year. Hell, go lower on the pace and say it hits 2M in the first year. PSVR1 only hit like 5M or so in 6-7 years by comparison.

Not saying the pace keeps up or that they don't drop the price or anything like that. I'm just considering what 200-300K units per month actually means when it comes to expensive, high-end VR.

Not a huge surprise in this economy at that price on a console that already doesn't have a huge number of games.

It's not the price so much as the lack of "killer apps."

If you are new to VR, the price of entry for the PSVR2 is much lower than a comparable PC-based solution, but the PC VR headset has a robust ecosystem of games that the PSVR2 just doesn't have.

If Sony wants to sell a bunch of PSVR2 headsets, create and release drivers that allow the headset to work on PC with existing SteamVR drivers.

i was really interested in it until the price came out and the launch line up was announced.

Now, I kind of lost interest and i don't think a price would change my mind at this point.

It just seems Sony didn't invest enough in the software side. There's cool experiences, but nothing that screams "I must have it now!"

After the Apple VR thingy flops, I think VR will go away for another decade. (And go away means niche PC product with limited support)

They could of easily got around it by making psvr1 backwards compatible…but it looks like they are going to drip feed paid patches

I think $400 with a game will be a good jumping in point. I dont see the sales increasing as there doesnt seem to be a ton of software coming as of now. They should bundle in GT7 and get them units in peoples hands sooner rather than later.

I finally tried my new free copy of Horizon. It's kinda cool how it saves the demo progress and just starts you right out where it left off.

But man, the whole issue with reprojection plus its method of anti aliasing really makes it uncomfortable to play. It's really shocking how jittery everything looks when panning the camera. It even makes it look like the framerate is dipping. No other game that I've tried has been as bad as this. Sony was crazy to push this as the game they wanted every new PSVR2 owner to have.

Man, maybe I'm just not sensitive to this stuff, but I honestly don't see it. Maybe this is due to me playing with extremely high turn speeds? Maybe it's how my eyes focus? It's not that I don't believe you, but I'm thankful it doesn't register for my smooth brain.

Maybe try maxing out your smooth turn? I know I have heard a few people using snap turn and it helps them.

Edit: there was an update today. Wonder if that did anything? (For the game)

Oh yeah, my go-to for VR games is smooth turning with very fast rotation speed. It has always felt the best to me. The fastest setting on Horizon feels so damn slow to me, though. And while it's slowly panning, every object on the screen jitters and looks slightly blocky. Just a weird combination of the reprojection and bad anti-aliasing or something. RE8 is another game that just uses 60->120 reprojection and I never had an issue with it.

But I will be trying it some more. It's odd because I didn't feel it was as bad in the demo as it was when I moved on into the full game content, but that first attempt at playing the game wasn't great. I'm also pretty damn addicted to GT7 right now.

It could be a blend of FSR and the type of AA they are using.

I think PS5 was recently updated with FSR2.2. Maybe future games will be able to keep reprojection issues to a minimum.

Yes. GT7 is sweet.

I can confirm the NMS is certainly nicer on the eyes. Resolution and textures pop more and the LOD seems to be pushed back-you can see as you're in-orbit flying.

Still not "perfect" as things in the far off distance can still seem a little blurry, but it's not a deal breaker and I have to give Hello Games some props for cleaning this up.

I don't know what's going on with my brother's 2nd replacement unit. I was at his house last Wednesday and offered to take his package with me and drop it off at Fedex on Thursday morning since he couldn't make the trip until that Saturday. I just wanted to get it moving for him to speed up the process and get us back into Pavlov haha

Sony received the unit on Monday of this week and still haven't made any progress on his replacement or anything. Really odd. Maybe they are really backed up on repairs/refunds? Or maybe they were able to make it work and are gonna tell him it's fine and send it back (which will be a big problem for him since it definitely did not work).

One thing that really annoys me about the psvr 2 is the constant need to setup your room despite nothing changing. Every single time you boot the console and want to play a game you have to scan the room.. The tracing after that is pretty mediocre.

With the quest 2 it doesn't need to scan the room. You set the floor height and you draw your environment… Shit, I have a second home 200 miles away and it still remembers the play space I created there a month later.

Then of course we are told to have distinguishable items in the room to help the tracking. My master bedroom in my other room is pretty bland right now. Walls are white, carpet is beige, blackout curtains beige. The psvr 2 struggles there with some jittery movement in game. It's like the headset has no idea where it is so walking in real life is nauseating.

The quest 2 has no such problems there… No jittery movement, play space remembered so it just saved the environment from forever ago, no kicking you out of game to tell you tracking was lost.

Sony really needs to make huge improvements there. It's already a bigger hassle to pull it out, in rope the cord and plug it in.

The quest 2 does the playspace tracking so much better. I have a big empty utility room that I play Quest in sometimes and there's not much in it to track, but it has no issues. That fucking thing could see the playspace through the open door when I was in the other finished half of the basement, even.

However, I will say that when you boot up a PSVR2 game and it's looking for your playspace, you just help it by looking around the room, the walls, the ceiling, etc and it will find it even while telling you it can't find it. I haven't had to re-do the playspace at all after realizing that. So when you first boot something and you get that passthrough feed, just start moving your head around to let it see the area.

Yeah, I've tried really making sure to look everywhere in my room and it still has issues. It just seems so unnecessary to have to do this every time to. People crap on meta but their tracking is excellent.

The first time I played saints and sinners chapters 2. My hand got stuck in the previous room I was in and I had to go back to retrieve it… Not sure if that was a tracking issue or a bug in the game.

I am holding off for the physical of Saints and Sinners, but I feel like I'm reading about a ton of bugs in it. No surprise it was delayed. But I'm definitely looking forward to checking it out on PSVR2.

Just a random tip to throw out, that dial on the top left part of the headset that moves the lenses for you to get your eye distance set up is very easy to move by accident just from adjusting the headset and taking it on/off.

You can double press the PS button any time and bring up a quick menu to go in and re-adjust the eye distance. IMO you should really check that every time you play anything. The clarity of the image significantly changes if that isn't set correctly.

Haven't had the room scan issue. Did it once and haven't had to do it since. I bought those Honsvr lenses. Work perfectly. So far, no issues with the unit.

Saints and sinners is fantastic. Very immersive. Love the feeling of two handed mele weapons.

I'm hoping they release some simple type games for this thing too....like bowling or ping pong, golf.

Walkabout Minigolf should be coming soon and it's great on Quest. Really looking forward to that.

Creed was really fun on Quest as well. I may grab that for PSVR2 but damn is it an active game. It'll get the heart racing.
