I tried that C-Smash VRS demo again now that they updated it to run at 90hz and allow you to change the paddle angle.

It plays better because of that, but I still just do not like it. It doesn't feel good to hit the ball at all. I feel like I have to swing so hard to make the ball take an oddly slow trajectory. Just doesn't feel right.

This is a pretty big misfire. Button reload is fine for old flat games ported to vr like what dr. Beef does. In a game built from the ground up for VR I think it's a terrible solution.

Also using eye tracking to change weapons is a very odd choice. In VR we have holsters and can grab items from your back.

My wild guess is that there is some peripheral coming that you put the Sense controllers into that makes it feel like you are holding an assault rifle. And so with the controllers not being free to move around like that, they couldn't have motion reloading gestures.

But then I read some more and it says you can shield your eyes with your hands to avoid being blinded, so I guess that's that lol. It also says you can close your eyes to avoid being blinded by a flashbang since it has the eye tracking.

Eye tracked aim assist? Wtf? So you have your reticle aimed near an enemy but if your eyes are focused on the enemy the bullets just kinda go to what you're looking at? That sounds fucking weird.

I like the eye tracking stuff otherwise, though. In Pavlov, one of the more annoying things is the radial menus when selecting weapons and parts. I click R3 and it shifts over one selection all the time. To make selections just by looking at them sounds cool in theory. Same with closing your eyes to avoid being blinded. But eye tracked aim assist is a tough sell for me.

A buying menu using eye tracking would be awesome. These other implementations they're doing sound just awful. The reprojection is an automatic no go for me though. I picked up breachers on quest 2 because I loved rainbow six siege. If it's as good as people say I would probably double dip on the eventual psvr 2 release since firewall is looking like a bust.

While I'm not the biggest fan of reprojection, GT7 and RE8 are both great experiences to me. It's only Horizon that completely sucks balls because of it to my eyes. So depending on how they've implemented things, it's not a guaranteed issue for me until I can try it myself and see.

Unfortunately Sonys return policy is really bad compared to steam and metas. As soon as you even download your purchase you can't get a refund.

Yeah that party really does suck. I'm hoping for a demo, but who knows on that.

Speaking of Sony's return policy, they received my brother's 2nd faulty unit almost 2 weeks ago and still no update.

That sucks. My first go round with them was HORRENDOUS, but with setting up the return. Once they had the system, it was a 2 day turnaround. Their customer service is pitiful beyond belief and I will never buy another product directly from Sony again because of it.

Walkabout Minigolf has a launch date: May 11th

Also, there was another No Man's Sky patch that specifically noted improvements to PSVR2.

I'm really trying hard to give Horizon a chance, but I may have to flush it. I'm really glad I got it for free.

Getting past the visual issues (though the graphics are nice), it is just so far from being a good game IMO. It's so clunky switching items and basically doing anything. I am at the part where I get that hookshot and then there's a fight with the glinthawks (birds) at the cliff. Very few aspects feel good to play up to this point. It's a night and day difference from a competent game like Song in the Smoke.

Also, some settings appear to have no effect whatsoever. I keep trying to turn off the slow-mo when jumping, and both yes and no on that setting have me doing slow-mo jumps anyway. I also wanted to try the auto-rotating camera while climbing. Never once saw it rotate. It also has you staring straight up and reaching for shit to climb and my finished basement mancave area just has celings that are too low for my tall ass. I kept hitting my hands/controllers against the ceiling. Not really the game's fault, but it's just another annoying thing going on while trying to really give this a fair shot.

Not to turn this into a personal blog, but my brother's 2 broken unit saga finally has an update. He did the live chat to ask them wtf is taking so long. They gave him responses about how it takes 10 business days and he's in that window and how everything is normal, etc.

Then within 30 minutes of ending the chat, he got like 6 emails about the unit being accepted, inspected, shipping, etc. He even got an email claiming UPS tried to deliver it but he wasn't home (it had not even been shipped yet lol). But he's supposedly getting unit #3 delivered today. And edit - he tested it and it fucking works! Almost 2 months after launch, he can finally play RE8.

Good to hear. Hopefully this is the end of his troubles.

Do you guys typically sit or stand when playing? I've been standing as I feel like it would seem like I was on an amusement park ride sitting down. Just seeing if it works well.

For me it depends on the game. Like obviously if I'm playing Gran Turismo 7, I'm sitting. But if I'm playing Pavlov, RE8, Smoke, Saints, etc, I'm standing.

Especially any game that has you reaching into holsters on your waist or around your back and stuff.

Just got the VR2, no one really explains how different this experience is, only issue is its a bit disorientating and can't play for long periods of time, wondering if its something you get used to.

Anyway, any advice or tips for it, can I play my RE7 vr on it? Any specific games or experiences people recommend?

No you can't play RE7 VR for it as it hasn't been updated for PSVR2. My top 5 so far are Gran Turismo, Rez, Tetris Effect, Pavlov and Dark Pictures (my favourite).

I don't get discomfort at all from the headset.

Yes, you will adjust eventually. They call it your "VR legs", and you'll get them soon enough.

And congratulations, you are now spoiled like the rest of us.

I gotta throw in an honorable mention for Towsmen VR. Really fun game so far. And damn is it crisp and colorful.

The controls took a little getting used to and I wish it was just all done smoothly with sticks, but once you get used to it, it makes a lot of sense.

Utter trash. Plays horribly, no real VR gain. Just play regular game.

Oh damn I kinda wanted it one of these days. Good to know it may not be very intuitive to control.

I've played like maybe 90 minutes of gaming in the last week and it's all been Townsmen.

I'm a big fan of Cities Skyline but the VR version I just can't.

I've been lucky to have the energy to play even 30-40 minutes of something every couple days recently, but I keep coming back to Townsmen. It's not perfect, but I'm having fun with it. I just did the island where you can finally make an iron mine and forge swords (not that anyone is playing it or knows how far that is lol).

There have been a couple moments where the game has stuttered a bit and some even a few moments when the image has switched out of stereoscopic 3D and goes to a flat 2D image in both eyes, which is very uncomfortable and jarring. Not sure what's up with that. Also the controls have you using your hands to move around and pinch in and out to change the scale of the map, along with physically grabbing and moving items, so you are constantly knocking the little workers around and throwing them into the water and hearing them drown :ROFLMAO:

Do you guys ever use it to watch movies or shows?

I have a Rift but have chosen not to. Honestly I'd much rather sit on my big leather recliner with the wife and watch a film on a big tv in front of me and see the food I'm shovelling into my mouth and see the tits I'm groping.

Well I had to get Walkabout Minigolf right away. I played the first course and got a -9 and I have some very early initial thoughts.

  • It looks substantially more colorful and crisp than the Quest 2 version. Things in the distance are especially nice looking for a VR game
  • It has a lot of options for smooth movement that I didn't remember being in the Quest version, maybe they were there. Though, I went back to teleport which is very unlike me
  • The tracking may be an issue already. Since you're staring down at the floor, the PSVR2 has nothing to reference its position with (not a problem on Quest) so I saw some awful wobbles
    • I solved it by placing the left handed controller on the ground in front of me so it could just always be staring at that as a tracking point, but maybe you can just put down any object
  • The PSVR2 controllers are not made to be used as a golf club at all. You can't put your hands together because if you cover the ring around the controller, the controller is now gonna have an issue tracking. So you have to slide your other hand awkwardly under the ring, which doesn't work well for my big hands

Those complaints aside, it actually felt very nice to play and I'll be putting more time in.

I feared the tracking could be an issue. Sony needs to find a way to improve it to oculus levels. Maybe something like a patterned rug could solve the issue but why do we even have to do that if it's not an issue on the quest?

Yeah I have no idea what they are doing differently with the IR sensors that Oculus figured out so much better. But, I will say that just placing a random object on the ground worked for me just as well as having my other controller there. It just has to see something. Really odd limitation, though.

Also, I still hate the space course lol. Some holes are just fucking bad IMO and there seems to be no way to get consistent at them. I got the full bundle with all the DLC courses and look forward to checking those out.

I'm mainly going to be playing psvr 2 as a sit down experience going forward. The mediocre tracking and the cable make it less of a room space experience than the quest.

Also… I'm just too tired when I can actually sit down to play games. I've been getting a ton of exercise just keeping up with my toddler and I'll be adding an infant next month as well.

I haven't touched any standing VR in weeks. I've also been sick for the last 6 days or so. So I get the not wanting to do standing VR thing a lot lol.

But I luckily don't find myself having many tracking problems in general where I normally stand and look in the room. Playing RE8 and Song in the Smoke on PSVR2 was a damn treat. I still need to grab Saints and Sinners 2 soon.

Someone on Reddit suggests just using the left controller as the club hand, and holding it like this. Then your hands don't block the ring and it feels way more natural.

Looks like the floor needs a fast food wrapper, clothes, or a soiled diaper for the true non wobble experience.

I'm going to get mine on Thursday now thats its finally come to retail, I've seen previews, reviews and opinions and I think to save a bit of money I might forgo Horizon CoTM, or is that a mistake? I heard the physics and smashing stuff is really fun but seems like a minor part of the experience and not really worth buying the whole game for.

Also, should I be getting this controller charging dock for it? Is it annoying to charge them if you don't have it?

I waited for it to come to retail because I get 20% off through work, plus I'll have a £90 gift card by returning my Pulse 3D headset since its broken. So it'll be £333 standalone, £365 with CotM and add £32 onto those prices if I get the charging dock.

Around £350 sounds like a great price for it considering there are 5 games I'm dying to play and 10 more I'm very curious about. I can't wait to try RE8, GT7 and Rez Infinite on it!

Oh also, what games should I have installed for Thursday night? So far I'm thinking RE8, GT7, Rez, Puzzling Places, Humanity and Thumper.

NMS I have via PS+, do I need to pay separately for VR? I really want to try Job/Vacation Simulator with my friend but I see no demo, those are good enough to just purchase though right? Is Kayak worth £19 as a wee chill out game?

IMO Horizon is extremely skippable. I got it free and haven't even bothered finishing it.

You do want the charging dock for sure. You do not want to dangle 2 USB cables awkwardly to orb controllers every time you use them as the batteries don't last extremely long. Plus the charger looks cool.

Look into Song in the Smoke if you want a really cool and unique survival based VR game.

Cool cheers, so I'll go for the normal non-bundled version and the dock for £365ish, since buying a few games extra will take that back to £500 anyway ha.

edit - Fuck I just realised theres only the CotM bundle in stock at work, fuck it I can't be bothered waiting for delivery lol so I'll just take the hit on the extra. Hmmm also now thinking they probably don't have the charging dock in stock, I make do without that for a few days though anyway.
