Finished the game on Normal. Very enjoyable except for the factory and the intro where you're ambushed by lycans which are definitely the low points of the game. On the flip side House Beneviento was the definitely the most memorable part for me. Mercenary is also surprisingly fun.
If you're playing on PC get the FOV mod.

Nice to read that you liked it. Yeah I definitely think the first area you mentioned is a low point of the game. Just felt like it dragged on way too long for my taste.

I made it out of the castle! Just now headed to the doll's house. Game looks so crisp and clean @ native 4k. Really enjoying the look too. I love how the vendor gives a backstory about the bosses. Nice touch!

I played through on medium settings and it looked good then too. I look forward to playing it on a proper rig one of these days.

Have fun at the doll house. It's a doozy.

Finally finished up the Mercenaries mode. I hate the maze-like Factory level with a passion. Took me forever to get S rank on the normal difficulty, but I just couldn't do it on the harder difficulty. Ended up using a Trainer to boost my score and put it behind me. I thought the other stages were all pretty great.

I can't read the thread, afraid of spoilers but I started this on PS5. Where I am it still feels a bit like one of those amusement park rides but horror-themed. Lots of cut-scenes/scripted events, though there were clear indicators of future exploration with all the doors I can't open yet. Not sure I think fighting werewolves is fun, it's cool they're more agile and stuff and the animations are great but I dunno, maybe I'll change my mind when I get more ammo/better weapons. The aiming is a little off for me, I'll see if I get used to it or need to tweak settings, unsure right now. I kinda feel for a horror game you want to miss shots because of awkward aiming because it's like you're panicking and scared but then you're also like "this is a limited resource, you fool!". Playing on Normal/Standard, it was weird having only three difficulties, like I'm not going to pick Hardcore on my first run, luckily it feels like Normal/Standard is actually relatively difficult, at least based on this first hour or so.

I'm afraid to test the game with ray-tracing off because the extra smoothness of the FPS might convince me to leave it off for good, not sure.

Just beat the game last night. I don't know how I feel about it. It's definitely a letdown following RE7 and I feel the biggest problem with the game is it borrows way too much from RE4, to the point where you can start guessing what will come next and it takes away the potential scares/wow factor. RE4 is a solid pick for the GOAT game, so while the callbacks and nostalgia are nice in 8, the whole time I'm thinking "why don't I just play 4 instead?"

7 was fantastic and 8 was decent, maybe a 6/10 game. I'd really like see a new RE game starring Ethan where they just do something original though. 7 was a callback to the original while 8 was a callback to 4 with some of the elements from 5-6 mixed in there. I dig the first person gameplay a lot, so a completely original game with Ethan that focuses on horror/atmosphere could be something special.

7 had a great opening half but the second part around the ship was pretty meh IMO 😊.

What I want now is all the gang back together like on Resi 6, Third person and somehow tie it all together while moving the franchise on to the next chapter. Bring back Claire, Leon, Jill, Chris, Barry, Jake, Mia etc. Maybe something major to bring them a back together, like a Wesker clone trying to end the world! Probably a good few deaths to thin the herd as well so we're not constantly missing out on characters every entry. Oh and all playable in coop!

The thing with Resident Evil is its so many different things to different people. It's a good survival horror series but its also a great action series. Which one you lean more towards will determine your love for each game.

Me personally I prefer action RE. So 4-6 are my favorites.

Ugh. So, remember my whole ordeal with the intro on hardcore, where I finally, blessedly got past that hell?

Well, I made the mistake, in the course of DF slowly transforming me into a graphics autist, of wanting to check out the ray tracing on the peaceful intro house, right after that.

I log in today to find out that erased my original save file, despite all precautions taken, and I had to do it all over again for hours. 😑

Some day, I'm just going to walk up to the director and assault him. Possibly with an assist like bear mace. You'll see it on the news.

But I did finally beat that and get the game started proper. Having a great time again. Something about this slow descent into fantasy/fairytale madness is really doing it for me. I think it's a refreshing way to do a Resident Evil, even if it is out there. I guess the jury's out until I finish the game, but for now, I really, really like it.

Other than the intro, it's the first time I've been excited for something in a while, and it just delivered exactly the great, totally involving experience I wanted.

It's fun to get a first taste of ray tracing lighting on console too. It's nothing compared to Metro Exodus on PC, but I think it's a solid first step for us. I really love how HDR + ray tracing just has some scenes having an almost eerie realism. Something like light coming through a window on an overcast day just feels closer than it has in the past. The game without it looks fantastic too, but this just gives you that little bit extra.

Hoping to have more time today to sit down with it, and just soak into the madness. I really love an absorbing videogame, and I think is going to be one.

I'm a bit into the game now
I've gotten all four flasks and am heading for Heisenberg, I can't do the last meal because I think I can't get back to the fish I missed in a cave passage in the castle? I remember seeing those before I knew you could murder animals for any reason.
And game is pretty phenomenal.

Which pistol should I go for infinite ammo for between the STAKE Magnum or Wolfsbane? I want something that's going to do a lot of damage.

A lot of people were stumped on Lycan siege, it's both refreshing and kind of annoying that there's no real indication on what to do to progress there.

Only at Moreau, but the game just isn't doing it for me so far. Feels rushed and kind of uninspired in many ways. :(

The game's pacing is absolutely terrible. Some of the bossfights are pretty poorly designed. I think Gman gaming's spoiler review covers it pretty well.

Some of the sections in the game completely kill the pacing of the game. One action section later on in the game is truly HORRIBLE. Esp if your first playthrough is on Hardcore.

Yeah a lot of people got stuck there lol. There's compilations of twitch players struggling with it.

I REALLY do wish they'd made this a new franchise. All of the supernatural stuff would be so much cooler if they didn't try to explain it with moronic pseudo science, not to mention how they actively devalued much of the rest of the series by trying to tie it so heavily into the lore of this game. This isn't a bad game, it's a great one but it really needed to be its own thing, especially after that ending.

Fully upgraded STAKE trivializes the entire game, even on Village of Shadows.

I beat the game, and outside of the really shit pacing with the intro and the middle of the game, it's pretty good. A decent 7 out of 10. Was hoping for more horror outside of 1 standout scene, and the unwillingness to commit to either horror or action kind of holds it back. Don't think too hard about the plot either it has a fuck ton of holes and shit that just doesn't make sense.

Been chipping away at a 2nd playthrough, infinite ammo turned off for YouTube purposes, obviously playing with the meal buffs and weapon upgrades. Still have to manage ammo though, even with upgraded weapons enemies don't go down that easily. Playing on standard too, I'll do Hardcore and VOS when I'm not recording. Looking forward to it.

Really fantastic game, one of the best RE games to date.

What's your Youtube? I'm doing Hardcore for my new game+, didn't buy any infinite ammos at the end, just new guns so I can't even do that if I want to.

Finally finished this tonight! Best RE yet! I loved every minute of it even though I got irritated on one of the bosses at the end.

The only complaint I have is that they completely bypassed ambient occlusion in the game. I can't believe with everything else looking great, they took that off the table even on MAX settings for the PC.

9/10

Thomas the Tank Engine Dimitrescu isn't real. Thomas the Tank Engine Dimitrescu can't hurt me.

I'm getting the memory leak issue which is pissing me off some. Plays fine for 15 minutes or so then fuck me, I apparently don't need 60 fps, have 5-8fps instead. Then it's a case of restarting the game, sometimes that fixes it for the session or it happens again and I have to restart the PC. It'd be cool if Capcom patched it, but no mention of it from them despite the 20+ page thread on it on Steam's forums.

I can strike this one from the list for the time being then.

I was getting this. I downloaded the latest Nvidia Resi 8 optimised drivers and it went away. 😊

Mine only occurred after about 2-3 hours as well to be fair. 😊
Sometimes it took half an hour through natural gameplay, sometimes it would happen a minute after loading my latest save while I was just standing still and not touching controls at all. Other times it doesn't happen. Pretty irritating. Game is great when it doesn't happen though.
