Yes, I loved Paper Mario on theb GC. That will be my next purchase, then Yoshis game. Thank you thank you. I've forgotten how charming Nintendo ganes were.
The Yoshi game is a little light on difficulty, if that matters. But yeah that charm factor is huge with Nintendo's work, that and a wonderful clarity of design that makes the affordances of every object on screen instantly obvious. Clever bastards.

Same here, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is an excellent game on the GC. Not sure if you ever played the first one the original for N64 titled Paper Mario - but that is my favorite game of all time along w/ Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask

I'd say that Paper Mario is 9.8/10 and Paper Mario TTYD is 8.6/10 in overall quality and fun factor. Both are fantastic games but the original Paper Mario is a masterpiece unlike any other

I've only gotten maybe 15-30% into Yoshi's Crafted World before I started playing SSBU and BotW nonstop, but I would argue that the difficulty is in the moderate range. And if you go for 100% it's a bit more added still. I plan to make several LTTP/RTTP threads for plenty games after I finish FFVII, with Yoshi's Crafted World being one of them to fully explore the greatness of the game

Almost all the big wii u games are on the switch now. Just Xenoblade X and a couple of others left.
 
If they really want to extend the life of the Switch, they ought to bring over some GameCube classics. We already have Super Mario Sunshine. Wind Waker HD exists for Wii U. I would personally like to see Metroid Prime, Paper Mario TYD, Eternal Darkness, and it frankly wouldn't bother me if they were to remaster Super Smash Bros. Melee just because.

I'm sure they'll be added to NSO at some point. Probably at a new, more expensive, super premium tier.
 
the top ten wiiu games are on the switch now save for games like xenoblade x which may not be ported.
 
Sadly, I was thinking $60 price tags for each of these. That's the "new, more expensive, super premium" price. But they would be given some remaster treatment, too!
A new tier at a hypothetical $80 a year, or $100 for a family membership, with almost zero work needed on their part, would be way better for them.

Remember, things only ever get worse.

You're probably right. I was just hoping for some remake work on games like Eternal Darkness and Metroid Prime. These games could look so awesome with a little Switch hardware magic and some enhanced textures.

I like get frustrated easily nowadays. That sounds like a feature.

Splatoon must be the only shooter that needs to completely change up its entire formula every game to get people to not bitch. I can't think of any shooters that have to reinvent themselves every game to satisfy their players. Halo plays the exact same as they did 20 years ago with some new guns and minor additions.

After 4 years they should have some kind of gimmick to justify moving away from Splatoon 2 which is perfectly fine. Also other shooters in recent years are making less content and pushing more and more DLC/MTX, while still asking full price.That would be a bad direction for Nintendo to take IMO. I would be happy if they added turrets or something to change up he flow of battle.

Ironically, people actually bitch about even the most minor changes in Halo. Ask die hard fans and they get livid over the smallest things. It's even sillier.

There's plenty of reasons to complain with Infinite, but the gameplay itself doesn't seem to be one of them since they stuck to the formula people like.
 
I hope Splatoon 3 makes a substantial change from the gameplay of 1 and 2. The Splatoon franchise seems to be turning into Nintendo's version of FIFA with incremental changes while still charging full price every release.
Yeah, I hope maybe theres some new modes...easier to play with your friends. I know its asking a lot from Nintendo. What I've seen so far is just more of Splatoon 2.

They could have tanks, hover craft, and all manner of attack vehicles. Not to mention that Samus is supposedly a bounty hunter and yet we've not had any games where she collects on these supposed bounties. Sounds like a neat mission-based game concept waiting to be exploited... -eyes Retro Studios-

I dunno...they could do spinoffs but those aren't typically well received (Hunters, Federation Force).

Though I wonder if Federation Force would've been better received with a different art style.

Samus does seem to be more of a mercenary than a bounty hunter though, yeah.
 
Whatever happened to Metroid Prime 4? Anything?

Bandai Namco was the original developer, then last year I think (maybe the year before?) Nintendo announced that it was basically being restarted from the ground up at Retro. No news on it since then.

I've got a bad feeling that Metroid Prime 4 is going to become vaporware. I could understand it leaving Bandai Namco over troubles with the project, but after landing with Retro Studios and then continuing, I imagine, to have problems I think that the issues may not be with the development studios but rather with Nintendo being a heavy hand... a heavy strangling hand.

I'm simply hearing too many reports of Nintendo shooting down projects to the point that I think it is stifling for second and third parties to be creative or get any sort of traction.

It could be a question of perfectionism. Maybe the stuff they saw wasn't good enough and they didn't have confidence in it being good enough eventually. A disappointing MP4 would harm the brand - it needs to be something special.

I dunno, you'd figure Retro of all their partner studios would have some leeway given the quality of the stuff they've put out over the years. Maybe it's just taking time, or they wanted to give Dread some room to breathe?

Then again, Retro hasn't even put out a full game of their own since Tropical Freeze. And I doubt there's much of the Gamecube/Wii era Retro still there today, so who knows.

There's a major clue. I thought I saw some comments or an interview with a former Retro developer who gave some insights about what is actually happening at that company. Some of it is the standard "bad manager" type of experience and some of it, iirc, was Nintendo ending every interesting thing they'd come up with.

I really think it's mostly Nintendo standing in the way. They release some great software but they are very conservative when it comes to granting freedom outside the company.

Nintendo's Kirby series is officially 30 years old today (April 27).

HAL Laboratory's much-loved platformer star made his debut on this day in 1992, when Kirby's Dream Land was released on the Game Boy in Japan.

Kirby was born out of a fortunate accident, in that he wasn't originally supposed to look anything like the way he does now.

Initially called Popopo, his debut game was originally going to be called Harukaze Popopo (Popopo of the Spring Breeze) before HAL renamed it Twinkle Popopo.

Because the character design wasn't yet final, the development team at HAL used a simple round blob as a placeholder until they had time to make something more detailed.

However, as development progressed, they grew fond of the blob, and decided he looked fine the way he was.

Nintendo and HAL decided to change Popopo's name to make him appeal to western audiences. As confirmed by Shigeru Miyamoto in a Japanese interview from 1993, Kirby was named after a Nintendo of America lawyer.

John Kirby, who passed away in 2019, successfully defended Nintendo when it was sued by Universal Studios, who claimed that Donkey Kong infringed on its copyright for King Kong.

To thank him for helping it win the lawsuit, Nintendo named the Kirby character after him and gave him a $30,000 sailboat named Donkey Kong, along with the exclusive worldwide rights to use the Donkey Kong name for boats.

Kirby continues to be a much-loved character three decades on, as proven by the recently released Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

Looking back, Nintendo EAD put some serious music into these Divine Beasts. When listening to these tracks it creates the sense that Link's environment and tasks at hand are extremely grim. They were, but damn I never noticed how dire the sound was for most of them until now. The lightest among them would Vah Medoh but even there, it feels like a lot was dependent on what Link would do as the hero when listening closely. Link was on the back and wings of Vah Medoh but it was Link who carried Vah Medoh, the Rito, Revali

Can't wait for the next portion of news involving Breath of the Wild's sequel. And I can't even imagine what the title will be. They're always fairly iconic. I'm just glad that we're going to get another profoundly large scale look at Hyrule again. And there's a strong possibility that there will be two sentient villains in this upcoming TLoZ game. This could be the one, the one game Eiji Aonuma has been waiting for all this time, his magnum opus. Although one can argue he managed that on his first try with Majora's Mask working closely with Yoshiaki Koizumi and Shigeru Miyamoto
