Grand Prix, Knockout Tour New
Grand Prix

z9QTueB.png

Race through various Cups in Grand Prix mode, where each Cup has four different races. Up to 24 players can play in both Grand Prix mode, as well as Knockout Tour mode; the most in series history. Grand Prix races are held all around the game's world in Cups such as Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup, Star Cup, and more. In Mario Kart World, Grand Prix is the main single-player mode. Playing and winning in Grand Prix mode can unlock hidden content.

Knockout Tour

Knockout Tour is the other main mode in Mario Kart World. In this mode, up to 24 players can participate, the most in series history. In Knockout Tour, not only will players need to watch out for opponents, but also hazardous attacks and other obstacles on the road. Players race in extended races called Rallies that go from one end of the world the other. Knockout Tour is similar to a sprint; it's a maximum speed race towards the finish line and racers must successfully reach checkpoints to stay in the race. Miss the cut for a checkpoint and you'll be knocked out of the running while the rest compete for the top spots and to finish in 1st place.

Ask the Developer, Chapters 1-4 New
it will be great i think, open world is most of the time empty anyway and it was quite clear from the footage there's not much to do or see. a gimmick. blame yourselves.

it's all about the racing and tracks which might be the best in the series.

It would be a missed opportunity. I mentioned in the Swtich thread but imagine a open world where you explore for new tracks, characters and mini games. Perhaps social spots as well you can just hang out with friends.

Yeah man imagine an Ubisoft like open world experience with locations/bases to conquer by winning races/challenges, a ton of exploration and side quests, you have to drive up difficult climbing paths to the top in a certain time to unlock parts of the map, you can go hunting animals and have to race them to get crafting materials for new upgrades, the story unlocks new abilities to traversal the world to reach new areas, you can build and expand your own base with parking spaces, a garage, tuning etc.

Wait that actually doesn't sound bad.

Ubisoft come back all is forgiven.

Honestly, I expected the "open world" stuff to be kind of meh from the jump. If the mechanics and tracks and local/online multi racing are great, I don't care much about anything else.

Any word on vehicles with outside drift vs inside drift for this version? MK8 only had two inside drift vehicles (my preferred option... jet bike and comet iirc) with shit tons of outside drift.

First impressions from IGN don't seem great. Anyone here playing it?

Dammit, this is what I was worried about. I was hoping the open world would be full of cool secrets to find, hidden charscters or tracks etc. but alas. Here we are. This is what Nintendo chose to be their big launch title. Kind of a bummer judging by all these early impressions. If IGN the turbo shills are talking then this is a bit worrying.

In my 20 or so minutes in free roam I had the same impression as IGN. The core game seems awesome with my limited exposure, but when you slap an $80 price tag on the game because there is 'so much content' in reference to free roam, then you deserve backlash for it (assuming there isn't something hidden in there.)

I really want to get home and play some more races though.

People being surprised Nintendo is halfassing a Mario Kart game lol. I guess it is semi surprising given they've been working on it for 10 years, but it's Mario Kart. It's like Pokemon. They don't need to put any effort into it, it will sell tens of millions copies easily.

So they did Forza Horizon open world without the actual Forza Horizon stuff?

Shit did Monolith Soft not check that considering they designed the world for Mario Kart World? Usually they are among industry best at world design, probably only behind FROM and Rockstar.

Well not quite. Free roam is wholly optional it seems, it's not even on the mode menu. Horizon is really built on the free roam, here it's a secondary mode.

Played a match of Grand Prix and I got second place. The last stage I screwed up pretty badly though and got 10 place :( Damn you blue shell

I mean I don't have gigabit. But I typically get 250 Mbps downstream roughly. This is waaaaaaaaay below that needless to say. Nice.

Possible solution here... can't try it quite yet because I'm on a work call and the switch is docked upstairs.

Skeptical though because IPv4 vs 6 should not affect this. I don't even use IPv6 at the router level. I mean who does?? Assuming this is what they're talking about here.

It downloaded pretty fast for me but I have AT&T Fiber
Thats a good joke there.

...God our internet is fucking garbage. I'm suprised it doesnt make dial up noises. There has been talk of fiber down here for years and nothing to show for it.

Nah, if they baited Forza dorks and open world homos, maybe some real ones can get a pre-owned sooner. Open world racing lmao. Shit doesn't even make sense. There's open racing courses (i.e. not a circuit) and free roam is exactly what it sounds like: fuck around until you're ready to, ya know, play the game.

Im seeing a few outlets with similar sentiments here in the UK.

Find activities? Like quests??? Empty world…. like roads!?!?!? With nothing to do… but race??? These people should be put in camps and re-educated.

I welcome all the pushback on the $80 dollar price point. It deserves extra scrutiny when they plant that price point flag. If you are going to jump 20 bucks within 3 years on the price of a game, you'd better damn well deliver on the value. They charged 70 for TOTK and they definitely justified that price with the game. Mario Kart feels like a 60 dollar game if you ignore free roam being a thing. So Free roam should be worth $20 dollars by that logic. I don't think its worth that much.

However, at the $50 bundle price I feel like I got more than my money's worth. This is basically a better version of 8 from the little I've played of it.

I'd love for nothing more than for the narrative to be "$80 for this game?!?" Because that maybe makes companies really think twice about the value proposition for an $80 game.

I can't help but feel that bundle deal is to get people use to the idea and deflect some of the outrage/eyebrows. I bet it is a tactic that works as well.

Think how many millions went into Red Dead and GTA at standard price points. Where has the extra money been spent to justify this kind of hike. First time a new Nintendo IP comes out at the price point it's doomed.

Why is it tiresome? This is the very first modern release at this price point and scrutiny for the value it offers absolutely should be considered.

I follow a lot of these guys and honestly if they were building anything like a positive* gaming culture and not just drafting off "next big thing" cycles like everybody else, I'd be more open to their criticism of pricing (which I don't think is very well thought out).

By *positive I mean they steer their audience from F2P slop to meme games to remake slop and back. Meet the new press, same as the old press. Politically, fine, but they're gaming illiterates who are going to lose us the actual game part of the "gaming" culture war.

EDIT: I mean get be reading the post wrong… I think he's making fun of IGN (rightly so). Got the vibe from the comments. Too much internet brain rot the last couple of days lol

Got the NS2 + accessories but was wiped out earlier than usual. Going to play some this evening and I'll share some thoughts and impressions after

I want to eventually become a proficient racer in Mario Kart World, like actually learn the game and be fairly competitive in races online so I'll be posting tips and tricks videos and sharpening my skills in Mario Kart World when possible. I liked where Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. went on a technical level with their gameplay, in MK8DX and SSBU, so my goal is to become better player and enjoy these games to their fullest. Playing mostly for the fun of it and the artistry of the games. The competitive side can take over at times but that's good too as long as you can put it into perspective while playing

This will be my seventh Mario Kart game played so here's to an outstanding launch with Mario Kart World, which will hopefully last as long and strongly as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe did due to excellent gameplay. I both love and hate MK8 Deluxe so maybe Mario Kart World will become the better game. As time goes on, if anyone wants to improve racing skills or overall skills in general go check out the threadmarks every once in a while, I'll try to occasionally share and maybe even discuss in-depth some of the tips and tricks videos, other interesting videos that are uploaded for Mario Kart World
