If you watch as many movies as me you might get sick of every couple being interracial now, tho. I did enjoy the movie enough, tho. Just saw another 2023 horror last night called "There's Something Wrong with the Children" and it's two couples who are friends, one a white guy and a black girl, the other a spanish guy and a white girl (second one has the kids). It's just this absurd funhouse mirror version of reality where 50% of everyone is non-white.
I mean you're obviously correct in a wider context, but given the fact Insidious takes place primarily in an American Art College, I'd say the white boy having been accepted into course at it is more unrealistic than the pretentious black girl, and their relationship makes sense given their room mix up causing them to intimately cohabitate, then share trauma.
I mean as much as I role my eyes at the overwhelming pro race mixing propaganda in media today, I uses to do the same when you'd have sci fi settings like the matrix movies that portrayed strict racial segregation in everyone's dating habits too.
There's a comfortable middle ground between no mixed couples and nothing but, and Insidious is one of the few that fits an actual realistic way such a statistically unusual relationship would form.
