I need to go through this and pick a main job. I've rarely kept the same main job between expansion.

I always pick one job to focus on more then the others. It will be the one I play through the main story and new content on first. By the end of each expansion I always end up with a ton of jobs at cap though.

I finally finished up the Realm Reborn story stuff to get into Heavensward. That ending was actually pretty good. I wasn't expecting to sit there watching such a long cutscene that didn't have Kojima's name attached to it, but it was one of the first interesting things in a while for me in this game's story.

And I dyed my chocobo raptor blue.

And god damn, why is there SO MUCH story content before Heavensward? This shit never ends. Every time I think I'm getting close, there are 40 more story quests. Then it leads to a dungeon that takes 20 minutes to queue for and 25 minutes to finish. Then it's 15 more story quests leading to a trial that takes 12 minutes to queue for and 10 minutes to do. It never fucking ends lol

that's because most of the 2.X stuff were done in a less than optimal condition for them and they were working with what they can, so the pacing is not the most ideal. all I can say is to bear with it and thing will get better once you passed that certain point.

I would suggest to go with RDM first since it's changes come EW won't be as dramatic to the point that you'll need to learn how to play the class from the start again. personally I might pick the AST to level thou. that way you'll have 1 of each role to use if you need it. but that's just me. do whatever you feel is most fun.


I'm working on my MCH at the moment. after that, either GNB or DNC.


 
seeing that the creator of FF, Hironobu Sakaguchi, is also playing XIV now is really cool. should be good to have him try out MMO and give his input. looking forward to his interview with Yoshi P come TGS.

I think I'm a little over halfway through Heavensward now. My progress has slowed quite a bit as I've started doing other things. That's the one thing I don't like about subscriptions. I feel some weird pressure to play, but if it was just a game that had a one time cost, I'd come and go naturally.

yeah, sub base games will have that effect on you. just think of it as the price of a night out or something and try not to think of it like "oh I paid for it, I HAVE to get the most out of it." just relax and enjoy it as you go. I know everyone has different situation when it comes to money, but even Yoshi P had told people to just sub when they can/want and feel free to get off the game for a while if they don't feel like playing and stuff.

depends on what you mean by "fast" I guess. I'm currently leveling my MCH and I'm just doing all the daily roulettes and that's it. usually get a level or 2 a day. and also make sure to finish the weekly Wondrous Tails thing from Khloe Aliapoh in Idyllshire. you get some decent xp from finishing and handing it in every week on the job that you hand the book in. and do some FATEs while you wait for roulette if the wait is going to be long.

The one thing that is keeping me from really diving into the game is that the class I want to play isn't unlocked until level 50 or 60 and starts back at level 30. Having to level one class to unlock the one I want to play, and then having to level that 2nd class all over again isn't something I'm looking forward to.

understandable. but at least it's already higher than starting from level 1 thou. what job are you thinking about doing? if it starts at 30, it's either MCH or DRK? if it's DRK, you honestly don't need to worry too much since tank's que time will never be that long. if it's MCH, just do what I do, get all the roulette done everyday and take it a little at a time. hopefully you also have the xp bonus earrings to help a little (they have the CE items on sale right now too I think, so if you want to pick those up now would be a good time too). make sure when you log off it's inside a town/inn to get that bonus build up. do FATEs while waiting.
 
I was getting too over leveled on my BLM and decided to try out AST. I've never healed in this game so it feels very weird to me, but I might like it.

It's ridiculous how I can just select any dungeon, click join, and the prompt to commence just instantly pops up haha. What a huge difference that makes compared to DPS queue times.

haha, yeah. healers and tanks tend to have really short or even instant que time. I imagine with End Walker coming out with a new healer and dps, tanks would probably be more in demand when it's out. but we'll see. AST seems to be changing to more of a pure/regen healer mix. should be interesting to see how it goes compare to WHM when EW comes out.

Healing sure can be stressful sometimes. I get in this dungeon, the tank is pulling 14 enemies, ok cool let's do this. It takes every ounce of healing to keep him alive. The dragoon stands inside every AOE and almost dies in every encounter. The other DPS gets hit by about half of them. And there I am mashing every button I have to try to keep the spinning plates from falling lol.
 
hope everyone already got their pimped out ride from the XV crossover. been away from XIV for a few days and I really need to get the Moogle Treasure Trove thing done. I need that jacket and a few of the other smaller items still. and of course, don't forget the Dragon Quest cross over event going on now too. puff puff away~
 
been trying to get my relic done and do some mount farming, but other stuff keeps coming up. oh well, nothing urge anyway. the EW launch trailer is so good and I can't wait to get into it.
 
got the game updated last night before going to bed. got up this morning and start working but get myself log in while I'm working (WFH). que wasn't very long, only 40 or so, but that's in early morning after all the people waiting for server open had already got in. been mostly sitting in Rising Stone and chatting with FC mates. need to wait until I get off work to really start playing 😅 I did realize I forgot to take all the belts from the armory chest belt slot out, so I guess they're all gone now. shoulda taken them and get some of the materias off and then desyn them. oh well.

btw, should we change thread title or make new one?

I got my Reaper up to 72 so far. Doesn't seem like anything special yet, but feels decent enough.

I suppose "FFXIV: EndWalker" would be fine. maybe add something like "moon's haunted" or what not 😁

I assume Steam installs are a small fraction of their player base because the game was packed all weekend.

I had 3,000 and 4,000 player long queues on Saturday.

Not sure about Sunday. I logged in early in the morning and didn't log out until I was done playing for the day, although I suspect the queues were probably just as long at one point.
 
My server isn't even popular and had a 6k queue yesterday. The queue kept disconnecting and making me start over so I gave up. I did make it to 84 already though by playing in the mornings. No queue then.

That's what happened to me on Saturday.

If I was fast enough logging back in, I'd keep my place in queue, but if not... too bad.

I eventually just gave up.
 
last Saturday I was logging in a little late in the afternoon PST, and my position in que was around 4800+ after a while it gave me the lobby error thing and kicked me. when I get back in I was at 5700+. so I ended up just giving up and went to do other stuff. yesterday and today there is still a pretty long que, but much better and no lobby error. at least they are giving out free 1 week play time to everyone who's subbed starting on the 7th, so that's nice. since I work from home, I just log in early in the morning when I start work. play a little from time to time to keep from getting kick, and then start playing in the afternoon when I get off work... 😅
 
logged on after a 1.5 hour que and got the first trial done before the maintenance shutdown. what a fight it was! almost everyone in the party are 1st timers and we wiped like 4 or 5 times. the fight has that epic feeling and the music is awesome. thou it really gave me that "wait what!? they're having us fight THAT at THIS point of the MSQ!?" feel.

great story so far, and have some great moments that hits hard on the feels department. I can't wait to see what the rest of the MSQ has to offer.

Queuewalker is amazing. I loved every second of the expansion!

Reaper fully geared now. Now to go Sage or level my Paladin to 90

Been working on the MSQ these days. Siren has been quite easy to log in to since Early Access. Been loving it so far. Still playing DNC 🤣
 
I haven't played this in like a month! Another reason I do not like subscriptions. Maybe I'll grab the new expansion one of these days when the queue times are under control.
