Okay, got the last talisman and the trophy didn't pop. I figured I must have missed something and sure enough, it was the Radagon's Soreseal. I thought I had it but I guess I had another Radagon Talisman. So a quick trip back to Fort Faroth which I forgot about. I briefly ventured in there before but the bats were annoying AF so I left it for later. Ran in there, cleared it out and got the achievement. Back to the final area. Took out Hoarah Loux on the first try with a sliver of health left and 0 potions. It was a close one. Went up the stairs to fight the final bosses. Elden Beast was insanely annoying and I basically won when RNG threw me a bone and he didn't keep teleporting back and forth across the arena. Now I'm going to go track down a few smithing stones so I can upgrade a few weapons for the next playthrough, then I'll reroll my stats, get the endings and put a bow on it. Eldone Ring.
Overall, I loved it. 10/10 game, deserves all the praise it gets. The exploration and world was incredible to explore. I did so much exploring and I know there's tons of content I still missed. After you finish Stormveil, there's a large island with a castle/building on it. I think it was to the west. I never got there, not sure if it was accessible but I think it probably was. Definitely still a ton of hidden caves that I missed. Everything that is great about this game has already been said hundreds of times, so I'll get on to my bitching.
My biggest complaint is the dropped inputs. This is the worst souls game for dropped inputs, although I've only played demons, DS1 and Bloodborne. I put down Demons Souls back in the day because it was so unbelievably janky even though I wanted to love the game. The problem seems to mostly be with flasks. I can't tell you how many times I pressed square to heal and nothing happened. This caused numerous deaths to more aggressive bosses, since you back up to heal and every second is crucial. I don't know why this hasn't been fixed. And before we do the whole "maybe it's your controller" routine, this does not happen with other games. And these bugs always occur in different ways in the different games (example, Dark Souls has this really annoying bug where you would strong attack and it wouldn't go through then when you went to raise your shield, it would trigger the strong attack). A quick google search reveals I'm not the only one who experienced this. Additionally, one time I actually replaced a controller just to play Dark Souls, thinking maybe it was the controllers fault. Nope, the series has a problem with this and it's never been addressed. I love challenging games as long as it's fair, but dying to shit like that isn't fun, nor is it challenging. Can we stop giving From Software a pass on this? Also, bloodhound's step has a lot of problems with dropped inputs, but since it's not really a main mechanic of the game I'm a bit more forgiving.
Other complaints are mostly minor. Poison swamps are still there despite them being stupid. They offer no challenge, it's simply annoying and Lake Of Rot was some of the dumbest shit they've pulled yet. What's the point of designing areas where you can't escape taking damage so the goal is to run through them as quick as possible? And then put items way out on the other end. Absolutely terrible. Next, another staple that needs to go away, platforming sections. These games aren't platformers. And while I don't often die in these areas, it's still stupid and way too clunky. No one plays these games to make challenging jumps, that's what actual platformers are for. Get rid of this nonsense, it sucks. Also, I'm a bit weary of the walkthrough nature of these games for quests/items. You get an item, have no idea what it's for, so you google it to find out what it does. Or you start a quest and have to google what to do, since it requires very precise steps. It's a bigger problem in Elden Ring because the world is larger, so it's harder to track down some NPCs or finding out where to start quests. There were a few times I unknowingly started/finished quests as well. It's weird because I respect the intrigue and not telling the player what to do, but it feels so random and sometimes it comes down to luck. A me problem, I'm aware.
Lastly, and this is mostly a me problem but I think that the game is way more fun for magic users. Grass is always greener, I know, but when watching other's play it seems like magic is a more engaging play style and I swear most of the cool weapons you find need you to have high arcane/intelligence points to use. Everytime I got a new weapon that I wanted to check out, I wasn't able to use it. Having some better melee only weapons would have been nice, but maybe I missed them and didn't look hard enough.
So we finished it up in just under 90 hours and frustrations aside, I enjoyed myself 95% of the time. It's a game I look forward to playing again in a few years with a new playstyle, maybe when the DLC is out. I doubt we'll get a new From game until 2027-28 so I figure I'll squeeze in another playthrough or two before the next game.
tl;dr, I loved it
