Just pirate it all

Best course given the streaming wars ruining it for everyone and disc options becoming less and less, if released at all. Quality isn't an issue as you just choose the full phat file, down to a <1gb rip. I have no guilt, spent thousands on physical over my life but they changed the game. Its great having very little footprint as well. There's great media software to get that book shelf feeling, only with extra features like season progress, actor bios and what else they have being in, time content will be finished etc etc.

Look at the Bourne backback and Bourne monocular and say that to my face again 😠

Honestly that digital library is the type of thing id do if i were smarter than i am

Just sell off all my physical games and movies and go all in like you did

Ive come close so many times and always start collecting again

With the recent Sony news yanking digital copies of physical releases i would be careful of doing that

That's the route I did. If you ever decide to hit me up, there's loads of software/apps out there that make it easier than ever. For films you can have advatages like open matte versions, files that have the best audio and video spliced together from seperate releases etc. TV shows its difference is massive, you can get the best version (that isn't always the home media release), off streaming sites without a sub etc. Most of these releases have all the extra features that the disc versions have etc. TV shows are my favorites, the photo below was my collection. I have about 3 times this, all within 5% or better quality now (silent all SSD NAS). What pushed me over the edge was many physical releases, just stopping half way through a shows run, or locked to Disney PLUS.

I used to have a huge collection of physical media but after moving 4x in like 4 years I never wanted to box all that again and went 98% digital. Kudos though, I miss it!

It's fun to collect things. With physical discs you don't have to worry about shitty buffering, bitrates, encodes etc.

Of course, streaming and "backups" have their advantages too. Ease of use, save money, more things to watch etc.

Heck, when did this come out? Haute Tension in 4k?!

Man, and I love Second Sight transfers. They're usually friggin' unreal

Which reminds me, not only am I skeptical of some .avi or .mkv or whatever file delivering the same quality in video or especially audio as a genuine 4k UHD disc (these movies are usually huge) - it's SUPER important I think to financially support the companies bringing high quality transfers of movies which would've been otherwise skipped over or forever stuck on DVD or in 1080p quality. Second Sight is one of those boutique labels fighting the good fight

I only watch movies on UHD, I don't own a 4k OLED for bitrate fuckery, I want that clean image quality.

Idk what kind of player you have or if you've mentioned it in this thread, but I've been very impressed with the upscaling between mine and my television. Idk if they work some magic together in unison, and it's not a 4k UHD, but there's often far more visual fidelity provided than there's any right to be. Makes me regret selling off all my Criterion blus when I did.

Then just download a remux which is the direct file no quality loss. That being said there's so much junk data on a 4k disc. You can easily half the file size and have a identical experience.

Still I spent about 1500 all in on my SSD server. So it will save money in the long term, but its a big hit initially. Using hard drives I think it would of being 1k. Obviously I can use my NAS for other things as well though.

I still have my collection, about 75% blu and the rest UHD. I toyed with the idea of selling it all last year, just to reclaim the space in my house. I couldn't do it in the end.

The last few years there has been a shocking lack of movies I want to buy. I think my last purchase was Dune and my next may be the sequel. I'm a big horror and sci fi fan so that makes up the majority of my collection. Along with some favourites from my younger years.

But a statement like that on twitter, has no context. It's impossible to say yes he legitimately bought 650 titles and if he is legitimately locked out with no way to access.

It's just like a tabloid headline people side with without ever questioning it's factuality?

I had a large DVD/BluRay collection, but I sold off a significant portion of it order to save space/reduce clutter. I've learned that I don't really rewatch most films, so I mostly rent/stream content while still buy BRD and UHDs that I consider classics/hard to find/ likely to be offend future sensibilities.

Hoping we finally get a 4k release of North by Northwest from WB this year. Maybe they were waiting for its 65th anniversary.

Yeah, this was sorta my thought process when I started but man... get a decent surround system and a big ass OLED and 🥵

It's amazing tbh. Just having like a legit movie theater in your house almost. Some of these transfers legit look like you're directly screening the film print, if not better. It's become an addiction.

I have a Samsung UBD K8500 (it's curved lol). Great picture and pretty good upscaling even from standard Blu-ray discs.

It was. Why though? I have it all and more in the same or better quality now. Plus friends and family can access it without having to lend discs. Also no more half complete collectons when they decide not to release any more or put it on a streaming site. Never regretted it ever TBH.

Why the hell people are still buying DVDs?!

There's a load of old good TV that has never and will never get the full HD treatment. Most of it has never and will never be on a streaming service either.

This is the other reason I'm looking at the Retrotink 4K as a worthwhile purchase. It's not just retro games it'll make look their best on a good high res tv.
