Thread: Assassin’s Creed Mirage announced
I haven't kept up with Assassin's Creed for a looooooong while. Have they ever followed up on Assassin's Creed 3's ending or did Ubisoft long abandon it to keep the gravy train going?

What is there to follow? Desmond's story ended there. New ones are less focused on future.

I mean it ended on a cliffhanger with one of the ancient alien chicks going off to take over the world or something, right? It's been a while.

I think she was in the background of Black Flag, Unity and Syndicate. Then they completely abandoned that storyline in Origins. They might have resolved it in a comic book or something like that.

I'm a big AC fan, but nothing about this is getting me excited. I honestly think I'd rather just go back and play the first game.

I think I'll wait for reviews and a sale before deciding.

Yep. I stopped playing after Black Flag and since then never looked back. This looks boring.

They need to desperately change the formula in a way that rather than point and do missions.

Add some complexity to the mission that makes it more interesting. Make every mission unique rather than sneak in a kill.

They changed the formula several times since Black Flag. If you find the settings boring it's just not a series for you.

Regarding the current timeline plot of the Assassin's Creed games, they mangled it by tying it to 2012 Solar event which had no payoff. They even made Desmond's finale less of an impactful moment than what he was built up as.

Ubisoft tried to reboot the whole Precursor/Isu/First Civilization thing, and that is fine, but I found it much more enjoyable when they were weaving mystery and subterfuge through the historical timeline and had us doing puzzles which would unlock the truth behind events that were either pivotal or showed the true nature of historical figures.

It's a complete mess and I still like it, but the writing has become much more terrible as a result. I am ok with them doing the reboot via Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla with the melding of myths/legends and history, so I won't expect miracles with this. Due to how long in the tooth the game series is, I always wait to buy during the Holiday sales or sometime thereafter when I need a distraction from a lack of new game releases. I am looking for what kind of systems are in place (something they ramped up during the Ezio trilogy) and how iterative they have made the traversal and combat. Because even dumb action is still fun if it is smooth and fights have impact/strategy.

Assassin's Creed: Black Flag is still my favorite in the series with the Ezio Trilogy as a second, because I enjoyed playing around in Renaissance Italy.

Well... that looked a like the first Assassin's Creed, but without the jank and rough edges. And it looks to incorporate the series later gameplay improvements. I'm intrigued, especially with the Baghdad setting which I love. Personally I couldn't give a shit if the current year story has gone off the rails. So long as the historical setting and it's plot are solid, I can consider that a good AC game.

Lol... They literally completely changed the formula with Orgin/Odyssey. I love them, Odyssey is one of my favorite games ever.

I liked Odyssey a fair bit, too (maybe my favorite AC game to date, all told). My only complaints were with the red vs blue mercenary stuff (big missed opportunity, imo) and enemies got pretty spongey. Otherwise, I liked the story, characters, and especially the world. A lot of people complained about the size of the map, but I never got tired exploring.

I really dont understand why some people praise this game. Has nobody played THE FIRST AC-game?! Same setting, same gameplay (except more focus on stealth and platforming!), and now we're repeating that lame setting? Ugh.

After hundreds of hours in Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla, I'm pretty burned out on the franchise. I hope they make it more linear.

The setting in this is quite different to the original game. This one is set in Baghdad in the 800s during the Abbasid Caliphate, so it's basically going to be entirely Islam, whereas the first Assassin's Creed was set in 1191 (during the third Crusade) in cities like Jerusalem, Damascus, and Acre.

So basically they didn't improve fluidity in the combat. It looks like you're teleporting to do finishing moves. This is what I meant by changing the formula. These tiny details matter.

I like that it's going back to the original style but Alan Wake 2 and Mario is going to take my money this month. I'll wait for black friday

Maybe next year when I beat Valhalla and this is 20 dollars.

I bounced off AC with Unity not so much as a result of the bugs, but more action paralysis as a result of the sheer number of activity icons filing the map. Never even thought about AC: Syndicate because I hadn't finished Unity, plus they clearly modelled the main dude after Bill Sykes from Oliver Twist, which just seems like a misfire.

Picked up both Origin and Odyssey during big Steam Sales but despite them sitting in my backlog, still haven't yet felt the urge to dip into either. Did ponder picking up Ragnarök on the cheap during the last Steam Xmas sale, but figured what is the point if I'm unlikely to play it,

I think for the most part (Unity aside) Ubisoft does make well-crafted games, unfortunately, their design-by-committee approach just leaves a lot to be desired for me personally esp when it comes to narrative engagement (their characters are beige to the extreme) and I don't feel compelled to play them.

This just looks like more AC. I guess if you're into series completionism, then it's a must play, but I doubt I'd even be inclined to watch a lets play.

Yeah, probably will be 40% off by Black Friday.

Sad to see it really is just a "return to basics" without anything novel, but I still wouldn't mind checking it out on the cheap.
