I bounced off AC with Unity not so much as a result of the bugs, but more action paralysis as a result of the sheer number of activity icons filing the map. Never even thought about AC: Syndicate because I hadn't finished Unity, plus they clearly modelled the main dude after Bill Sykes from Oliver Twist, which just seems like a misfire.
Picked up both Origin and Odyssey during big Steam Sales but despite them sitting in my backlog, still haven't yet felt the urge to dip into either. Did ponder picking up Ragnarök on the cheap during the last Steam Xmas sale, but figured what is the point if I'm unlikely to play it,
I think for the most part (Unity aside) Ubisoft does make well-crafted games, unfortunately, their design-by-committee approach just leaves a lot to be desired for me personally esp when it comes to narrative engagement (their characters are beige to the extreme) and I don't feel compelled to play them.
This just looks like more AC. I guess if you're into series completionism, then it's a must play, but I doubt I'd even be inclined to watch a lets play.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag and the three Assassin's Creed Open world games could both have been huge new franchises for Ubisoft without having to be tied into the Gordian knot that is Assassin's Creed lore.I played all except Syndicate and I believe Origins is something special and has the best protagonist and world. The world feels real. It plenty of negative space, it never reuses the same layout for points of interest and the AI has Gothic-style routines. Brick factories actually make bricks, you can hang around in temples and watch how they meticulously wrap mummies for like 20 minutes and so on.
Odyssey throws away all that but I guess it's a decent Hercules: The Legendary Journeys game. You can't go 30 seconds without encountering a distraction, the points of interest are equidistant, the locations are cloned more often than in Starfield... There is no reward for exploration and you see everything the game has to offer in the first five hours.
I really missed that negative space. Origins was beautiful and melancholic while Odyssey was an explosion of cotton candy.

Playing Odyssey wanted me to see more Greek and Roman interaction. I know the time period wasn't right for it, but I wanted more Rome from Ezio's timeline but hundreds of years earlier. Being able to be a part of Rome overtaking Greece's power would have been a great bridge in the timeline if they did that instead of Valhalla.
There were a lot of rumors for a while concerning the supposed Assassin's Creed Victoria being the third open world Assassin's Creed and a Rome focused setting following up on Origins and Odyssey.Playing Odyssey wanted me to see more Greek and Roman interaction. The connection from Odyssey to Mirage would have necessitated a dedicated Roman Republic/Empire timeline now that I think about it.
Instead they went with the whole Vikings were globalists to shoe-horn middle eastern protagonists. They could have even revisited Egypt and kept the Mediterranean story line cohesive over the rise and fall of those three cultures.
Now, I am mad and I enjoyed Valhalla for the most part.
So it sounds like they literally just make an old AC game. No updates, no tweaks to game design, nothing. Kinda sounds terrible.
These games are not for everyone imo. Despite all the hate the series gets it's still sells well. It's like Pokemon.
Kinda scummy for Ubi to add Denuvo in the day 1 patch after reviews..
Just saw some screenshots and the chromatic aberration stuck out.
Devs, just don't. Fuck CA, don't use it, ever.
I always wanted to see a Mayan, Incan, India or Tartarian themed AC. Some incredible ancient sites in those locations. Like Chittorgarh Fort in India. And all the new ancient cities and structures they're finding in Brazil that are tucked into and built on top of the mountains.

Apparently there is no toggle on it either which is bizarre for a AAA game.
I told y'all same ole shit everytime. They should have taken lessons from ghost of Tsushima.
The combat there is fluid and it's no immersion breaking.
They've had repeated opportunities but again same ole formula every AC game
Playing it atm and enjoying it enough to keep going. I mean the complaints in here aren't really wrong but at the same time I don't care. I was in the mood for an AC game and this one tickles the fancy better than any of the recent ones. Definitely feels like one from the PS3 era but with better graphics. Also @regawdless you will be please to know that there is in fact a chromatic aberration toggle.
Yo what's so funny
Hoping this gets at least 50% off during a holiday sale.
Yeah, they completely threw the Templars vs. Assassins plot of the first few games out the window. It's so weird because I still have the memory of when the first Assasin's Creed came out, was such a unqiue concept at the time. Juxtapose that with whatever the fuck its turned into now, a mass produced theme park where everyone gets to wish their favourite (insert historical period) as the next entry-theme. They struck gold once and then went to milk it into shit.
