Thread: Amazon's LOTR Series Name - "Rings of Power"
Would the cost of this series justify Amazon keeping it up on Prime? I know of another popular fantasy show that got canceled after one season due to high production costs.

Age of Resistance was pretty much loved by audiences yet that didn't stop Netflix from scrubbing it. I'm still pissed at them for that.

I'm not sure how it would work with a streaming service exactly but my assumption would be they will simply look at the number of subscribers and whether or not that grows when this series is released.
Not sure why you are fighting logic here lol. No, Amazon will not look "simply" at subsribers and be like "hm, subscriber count changed a bit during this series' release, MAYBE there is some correlation here". Amazon will look at hard fact click numbers, see "oh, 10 mio people watched episode 3, that is good/bad" and go from there.

Weird you'd start an argument here.

Wasn't arguing at all.

They'll be looking at the production costs of the show, marketing costs of the show and then how much growth the show creates for them.

The subscriber count will not only change "a bit" when this launches. They will get a load of new subscribers but the question will be how many they retain. An entire season will be about 10 hours so they will be using this show, and associated marketing, to get people to sign up and hopefully stay on.

In the end they might end up cancelling the show if the budget is too high compared to the subscriber retention or rate of new sign ups.

I would guess they have almost no expectation that this will get a low number of clicks. I'd imagine it's almost guaranteed that this will be Amazon's most watched show by some distance.

The main questions will be how many new subscribers they bring in and the retention rate.

Yeah, considering the absolute shit that gets onto Netflix it's a shame that some actually creative and inventive content just gets cut.

They're banking on the LOTR and Tolkien name to get an audience. But what these idiots don't get is that the fans are in it to watch the stories Tolkien wrote adapted onscreen. They don't want non canon shite like this. They want to see stuff like The Silmarillion or The Children of Hurin. Fortunately, Amazon can't touch those since the Tolkien Estate had the foresight not to give them the rights.

It's a thousand times better than their crap adaptation of The Witcher. But then again, Age of Resistance was made by the Jim Henson Company with funding from Netflix. I've said this before on another thread, but Netflix should just focus on being a platform and stop producing original content which is largely shite. Arcane, which was their biggest recent success, wasn't even made by them but by Riot Games and Studio Fortiche.

Drinker's thoughts aboubt this

This is where I am at.
You don't get to bastardize the lore to fit your world view.

The fans didn't like the story because of your world view.

So to adjust the story so that it's completely different from the lore that has been established for ages is something that fans will of course go against

But keep dismissing their concerns as racist and sexist.

This series is dead on arrival and I ain't watching it.

Saw the Promo for this show just now during the Superbowl. This looks DOA. Nothing about this looked appealing. I am a Tolkien fan and overall Fantasy Nerd (hell I own swords!) and it just looked lame and generic. And honestly a few shots looked cheap.

I actually wanna watch it now, thanks for the heads up
It's actually pretty good. I've only read one Reacher book (One Shot, which the first Jack Reacher movie is based on), and the show perfectly captures the kind of character Jack Reacher is and the challenges he faces in each of the stories. Frankly I think it's baffling that Amazon could get Reacher so right yet fuck up Tolkien like this.

The moment the black elf appeared in the trailer everything just was ruined. Sorry, but I can't take that seriously. It's so immediately distracting.

My last hope is that they'll explain it with some "an elf fucked a wildling, and that's that" or such. But I will not watch this show until such explanation appears on the internet.

I don't care about any explanation tbh. They added these characters because of their ideological crusade, solely because of skin color and ethnicity. Then tried to fit them into the story, using LOTR as a tool to express their ideology. It's pretty shitty in my opinion.

Yeah, that new Bel-Air isn't making Aunt Viv a Chinese woman and then calling anyone who points out how retarded that would be a racist.

The only time a character's race changes is when it started as a white person and you're racist if you notice this.

The flood of russian comments is just what the creators can and will use as an excuse... that is if they even need one:
Goes without saying youtube dislikes are not a representative thing, but the video currently has
likes: 53.079 vs dislikes: 17.000
I fear people will eat this up. And even if it fails, look at stuff like Picard and Star Trek Discovery. Some people seem to have deep pockets and finance stuff only to spite others.

Justsomeguy did a really good take down of this trash and why its counter to Tolkien and why its absolutely against the lore

Since its anime it might not shit on Tolkien....

Holy shit. Directed by Kenji Kamiyama? The dude who directed Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex? This has me interested if that's the case. I expect the Japanese to at least be respectful of Tolkien's work than any fucking woke dangerhair.

Diversity is not a bad thing but if you're gonna change the character design or lore for the sake of diversity that just not what people sign up for.

LOTR wasn't designed for current world sensibilities.

True diversity would be great. What we're getting instead is Diversity Inc. which is just another facet of attempting to homogenize global entertainment with modern American Leftist sensibilities. Making everything "Diverse" in the same way is, in fact, killing diversity.

That's my take, at least. I'll still give this a try since I'm a Prime subscriber, but my expectations are extremely low.

Let me know how it goes.

No

Diversity has killed the west, including others not deserving only weakens your position, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link..fill the link with weak points? wait and see
