Hoo boy. What exactly is the point of this series? Is the realm of Elves and Men in danger of being overrun by the Darkness and now boss queen Galadriel has to take up the sword to fight it?

If these cunts making this show had actually read the Silmarillion (which they don't have the rights to fortunately), they'd know that the Second Age of Middle Earth is one long list of Ls the good guys from our boy Sauron. To list the stuff he did:

- Tricks the elves into forging the Three Great Rings, then himself gives the Seven Rings to the Dwarves and the NIne Rings to the Kings of Men. And of course, forges the One Ring to dominate all the others. He then turns the Nine into the Nazgul, drives the Dwarves greed further which ruins them. Only the Elves are spared because they are wise to his plans and take their Rings off.
- Successfully seduces the King of Numenor to launch an invasion fleet on the Undying Lands, the home of the Valar. The Valar then destroy the fleet and Numenor itself for their betrayal. The survivors of the cataclysm then make landfall on Middle Earth to found the kingdoms of Arnor and Gondor.
- Sauron raises a great army to finally crush the Numenoreans, who are now allied with the Elves in a Last Alliance to stand against him. The battle ends when Sauron is defeated, at the cost of Elendil, the High KIng of the Dunedain, and Gil-Galad, the last High Elven King. But the One Ring he forged is not destroyed and is lost with time.

So what's the point of watching this series when we all know the good guys will lose? It's only until the Third Age in The Lord of Rings when the forces of good are finally able to end the threat of Sauron with the destruction of the One Ring. I don't want to watch 5 seasons of the good guys getting their asses kicked!

There will be elements of the series that will serve to redefine or undermine the events of Lord of the Rings.
So maybe there was an opportunity to destroy the ring ONLY because of the events in the show.
They'll tie their new characters, Harfoots etc, to the LOTR lore so that they are strongly linked.

We've seen Disney doing the same with Obi-Wan.
Luke Skywalker is only even alive in A New Hope because Reeva had a change of heart AND Reeva was also involved in formative events in Leia's life. Of course.

It's easier to just think of these as really expensive fan fiction.

The only difference really is that Amazon and the mainstream media are giving them legitimacy.
Anyone could just as easily write a LOTR prequel themselves and post it online and it would be as valid as anything these dumbasses are coming up with.

Unfortunately though you are going to have a lot of people who will eagerly gobble this shit up and any time LOTR gets mentioned this shit won't be far off being mentioned too.

These are acts of cultural vandalism.

Only for people who can't see through their bullshit. The like/dislike ratio for everything they've thrown up to promote this garbage gives me hope that we've reached a turning point.
 
Why bother greenlighting new IP when you can just tarnish and ruin existing properties and then spin narratives that all the original fanbase are just full of gamergaters and racists.

Does anyone expect this show to actually meet its proposed 5 seasons? Are we going to be subjected to possibly 60 episodes of whatever the fuck this is.

This is the quote one of the show runners gave to Empire magazine. Needless to say, I will be shocked if this makes it past season 2

We even know what our final shot of the last episode is going to be. The rights that Amazon bought were for a 50-hour show. They knew from the beginning that was the size of the canvas – this was a big story with a clear beginning, middle and end. There are things in the first season that don't pay off until Season 5.

cringe final trailer. Is this how they are trying to entice fence-sitters, let alone haters? haha
I doubt I will be satisfied even if they get the visual and sounds right.
The theme focused on "warrior" Galadriel is enough to turn me off.
Let alone other breaking lore and unnecessary addition.

If they only plan on 10 episodes I could see them dragging it out. Still 5 seasons is a lot. But its kind of cheating when its only 50 hours. I still doubt they have enough woke material to fill 50 hours, by hour 15 they are going to have to feature more white male actors and that will be the death of the show.....

this was a big story with a clear beginning, middle and end. There are things in the first season that don't pay off until Season 5

Honestly the story structure of actually having a begining, middle and end is something Disney should have embedded into the Star Wars sequels, instead of what they actually did.

Tolkien's own letters would show people what he thought of the Nazi regime and Hitler in general.

In a normal world that would be evidence enough to show he was far more tolerant than what was normal for a man of the time.

But this is the current day, where being white is proof enough of how racist they are.

We can only dream. Think Rise of Skywalker is proof enough that Disney thought they could get away with doing the most brainless, vapid shite and still print money.

Even if the plan was bad, more cohesion really would have forced better movies out of them.

So maybe at least having a narrative through-line works in Rings of Power's favour. Might not be good, but can we hope it'll make narrative sense? 😂

I think this was being floated around a little while ago that Tolkein was some sort of racist because all the characters in LOTR were "white". And people were reading into the orcs being "black" or some other bullshit.

Tolkein could have killed Hitler with his bare hands and the woksters would still call him a white supreme.

Don't ask, just accept that geography, environment and genetics play absolutely no factor in how we look. It might make zero sense that a race who largely spends most of their time underground would require a high melatonin count to combat intense sunlight but only a fool and a racist would suggest there was anything untoward about it.

One of the best comedic voice actors had to give up an amazing character on the Simpsons cuz he was WHYTE but some black lady can do a voice? Irish people aren't costumes for black people to wear. Don't they know the pain and suffering of those potato eating drunkards?

The part with the chick elf saying "I have a tempest in me" looks like they are straight up stealing from Queen Elizabeth, both in tone and looks with her I the armour.

"I, too, can command the wind, sir! I have a hurricane in me that will strip Spain bare if you dare to try me!"

Somehow I think they will skip stealing this part

Fully expected the Daily Mail to trash it, but man that sounds worse than expected. This is what happens when you don't have a single creative voice like Peter Jackson to oversee production and the keep tone consistent. The bit about clashing tones of the show indicates there were many people in the production taking things in different directions. The beauty of Jackson's LOTR trilogy that despite the different locations and points of view in the story, each of them felt part of the same whole. Same with The Hobbit trilogy despite it's flaws.

"The Rings of Power" seems to be banking on dazzling Tolkien fans with soaring sights of exotic lands they may not have seen before: Middle-earth, of course, but also Valinor, a holy land where the immortals reside, and the island kingdom of Númenor, whose fall is written in the books. (Like Jackson's films, the series was shot in New Zealand.) But for audiences not already invested in the comings and goings of the pointy-eared folk, the series doesn't provide much reason to care.

The performances are serviceable but unremarkable, while the dialogue is particularly corny and inartful, with too many intoned monologues about the search for "the light" or the ever-vague nature of evil. The fate of many worlds hangs in the balance, but the uninspired opulence on screen spark in the imagination only visions of bills going up in smoke. Rarely has danger felt so dull

Heh. This is what happens when you don't have the rights to the Silmarillion to adapt. And even if they did, the Second Age of Middle Earth doesn't have much in the way of an overarching threat until much later when Sauron tricks everyone to forge the Rings of Power. Since this just the beginning, what sort of evil will the good guys fight?

When all is said and done, I don't even think this series will even match Shadow of Mordor's take on the forging of the Rings.

Maybe if the reviews are bad enough the writing might improve in a second season. Or they cancel it completely.

Wishful thinking on my part, I know.
