Thread: The Batman IOTI I am Vengeance
Official Thread
I think Gotham City in this, Gotham the TV show and even in Batman Vs Superman were great depictions of the city itself.

The storylines not so much. Agreed that Snyder had the best action and scale so to speak. Also agree Catwoman going on about white privilege broke all suspension of disbelief, more so then the billionaire dressing up as a bat.

Best balance of all things batman is probably still the Animated Series and Arkham Asylum/City games.
I had my concerns, but honestly found the white privilege part NOT to be a problem. With her background and flavor of indoctrination, I can completely buy her approaching the situation from that angle. It wasn't shoved down our throats beyond the one line so I will allow it.

Finally saw it on HBO last night and its good but I still kinda feel like this movie is totally unnecessary. Are they just going to reboot the Batman character every few years?

-Pattinson is fine as Batman but I feel like they are missing a big part of his character by almost completely dismissing the Bruce Wayne persona.

-I wish they had scenes explaining why we should be afraid of Falcone besides just being told that he is a bad guy (I cant stop thinking of The Jesus)

-Maybe I missed something but what ever happened to the whole Batman assaulted several police officers? Its like they just kinda stopped giving a shit at one point but maybe I missed something?

-The 3rd act was a bit over the top by comparison to what came before it IMO. It was a little jarring.

-I kinda feel like Paul Dano was a bit wasted here. I think he's giving it his all but the script just doesn't give him much to really dig into (mostly due to limited screen presence I think)

-I do like how the main mystery circles back around and becomes very personal for the main characters and fuels their development.

-The movie looks amazing.

Overall I would give this a solid 8.5. I will watch again. Its definitely the best Batman since Dark Knight (not that there was much competition in between)

The dark knight always felt too "sterile" to me. Gotham as a character is generic AF. At least in Begins and Rises, Gotham itself isn't boring.

Watched it on HBO Max last night. It was better than I expected, but that white privilege line ripped me right out of the movie. Still, I liked a Batflick that focused on the detective aspect of the character.

Yeah I visibly cringed at that line. Catwoman was one of the weakest parts of this movie. Also fucking John Turturro as Carmine Falcone wtf. I couldn't take him seriously as the character at all.

Honestly it drags so fucking much and was kinda boring... style over substance imo. This one scene where riddler started singing ave maria i almost died from laughing.

The entire interrogation scene was comical. Wtf were they thinking. Riddler was so fucking lame. Posting on social media asking his followers for bomb making tips lmfao.

This must take place in a world where the NSA and FBI don't exist

I mean Batman is just walking around knocking on doors and among the police like any old dude, following people with his Batsuit in his backpack, so people in Gotham clearly don't pay much attention lmfao.

Outside of Ledger's performance, I think TDK is overrated. Begins is still the best Batman movie imo.
Yeah this is what I notice as time goes on. TDK is great because of the Ledger performance and the opening scene. Outside of that it is Bruce Wayne crying about Rachael and how he cant wait to not be Batman so he can be inside her full time. Bro literally just stop being Batman.... no one is forcing you.

I love this Batman because of how Emo he was. He was tired from the burden that he had to carry but wasn't about to throw it away for some Pussy. Honestly the movie felt like a mix of Seven and a Batman Flick.... fuck it I am re-watching it now while at work.

Also, soundtrack is 10/10.

I watched it last night. I thought it was a bit meh. Gorgeous cinematography, but the plot was realy boring. A three hour movie of which I hardly remember any scenes having watched it less than 24 hours ago ...

Just rewatched this it's going to be so hard going back to other superhero movies after this kind of like going back to other open world games after Elden Ring. It's not even fair to compare it to other superhero movies this is more like something in a class with Zodiac or Se7en but with the additional fun of some superhero action scenes.

The Batman 2 is happening with Matt Reeves returning as director and Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group Boss Toby Emmerich announced today during the studio's CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas.

The news comes at a time when the movie has clocked more than $760M around the globe and a viewership of 4.1M households on HBO Max in its first week. That topped the viewership of such Warner Bros day-and-date movies last year as Suicide Squad, Dune, Wonder Woman 1984 and The Matrix Resurrections. The Batman is Warners' first theatrical-window release since Christopher Nolan's Tenet in August 2020, after the studio adopted a pandemic theatrical day-and-date strategy its 2021 slate including December 2020's Wonder Woman 1984.

I thought this was pretty good. I was watching it while very tired, but even with that in mind, it might have been a little too vague about the crime families and what was going on in the larger overall picture. Mentioning the crime boss of another family while he's not even in the movie really aided in that confusion.

You can go and read about it and get a better grasp, but having that laid out a little more clearly in the movie might have been helpful. I thought Batman was done really well and that Bruce Wayne was like one of those emo kids from South Park.

I really liked how they would inject some realism in, like how he can't just fly around without consequence. Doing a base jump off a building results in injury. Pretty cool touch.

I didn't like Catwoman much at all and the movie wouldn't have even changed if she wasn't in it. Their romantic side plot felt incredibly forced and unearned. I have to imagine Penguin will be in the next one more heavily. It's almost impossible to see Colin Farrell in there. In fact he almost looks like Robert Duvall lol

It was allright, the depiction of Riddler in this movie was pretty lame and just didn't cut it for me for being the main bad guy, the rest of the movie was pretty good but way too long , the white privilege garbage lines really didn't help and added nothing to the movie besides showing the audience " look how much of SJW's we are" .
It was good for a cape movie but pretty uninspiring at times , best scenes were with the batmobile

Saw it the other day. Overall I liked it, though not without some criticisms. I really dug the more detective based nature of the storyline, however, I found the overabundance of police in every scene involving them kind of comical. It's like no wonder crime is so bad in Gotham, every policeman in the city is either standing around a crime scene or hanging out in the Police Station. Performances were good for the most part, up for a sequel for sure.

4 viewings now, only 4-5 movies of the past 20+ years are in a league of quality with the this film
What 4-5 movies in the past 20+ years do you consider in a league of quality with this film.

Since you didn't say up to 20 years of this film, you have opened up yourself to every movie ever made for me to throw against your considerations.

Dune, Interstellar, Dawn of the Dead 04, Mad Max Fury Road, Sicario, Blade Runner 2049, Edge of Tomorrow, The Dark Knight, Tenet, Inception.... I included some films I think aren't quite at its level to be fair. I said 20+ because I think the last time I definitely liked something more was Terminator 2 in 1991 so 30+? But then I'd need to recalculate how many films hang with it

By putting the plus symbol against any number you are saying that any movie 20 years AND earlier in your range.

Saying 20+ includes 30+, includes 40+, includes etc... black and white before talkies.

Edge is pretty cool... the dark knight has a cool bad guy. Intersteller is unwatchable garbage. Fury Road can kiss my ass. 2049.... nah don't think so... Sicario,, Tenet, and Inception.... yawn. Dune... you mean the 80s Dune? That one has it's moments.

This is ignorance of the source material. I know you haven't gone through 1001 movies you need to see before you die, much less Roger Egberts much smaller list.
If I had all the time in the world I still wouldn't watch all the movies you want me to watch in order to have an allegedly proper opinion. Just enjoy your superiority and leave me be because this is tiresome.

I was trying to have a discussion with you but you got precious over not being accurate in the breadth of movies you have watched.

Just say you only have a working knowledge of the past 20 years of movies because you cant trouble yourself with some actual quality movies and we sure as shit know Hollywood has no new ideas. You make a claim that THESE ARE THE BEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME (20+ includes all movies, up to 20 means only the ones you have seen in the theater and not even including being a fully adult male since brains aren't developed until you are 25, which makes any claims prior to that a big lol), yet have no basis of comparison.

Of course I am going to call you out when you get indignant. You bring it on yourself.

Okay you are clearly an idiot. Sometimes you seem smart if you're in politics but holy crap are you stupid.

If someone said president Trump was the best president in more than 20 years do you think they mean he was better than Abraham Lincoln? You are an arrogant ass who doesn't know how to talk to anyone and that's why no one's going to have a discussion with you.

Yes, more than 20 years includes Abraham Lincoln. You mean to say in the PAST 20 years.
