Thread: Work on a Dead Space 2 remake has reportedly been shelved
My brother got me the remake for Christmas and I played a bit. My experience is what I thought it would be; good remake but I own the OG trilogy and those games still look good and play good. I just don't see the point in playing it myself. The entire time I just wanted to boot up the PS3 and play the OG game.

Dead Space 2 does not need any remaking whatsoever, I played it a few months ago, it more than holds up. I could say the same about the first one too, but 2 definitely has no reason to be remade at all, other than easy money of course. Less remakes and reboots please. Most games getting remade these days are genuinely worthless in my opinion.

As a Playstation owner, I would disagree with this but thats because the only way I can play DS2 these days its to pull out the PS3.

I don't mind the remakes, but to be perfectly honest I'd rather buy the OG Trilogy for ~$5 and mod them with HD textures. The originals already had masterful atmosphere and lighting.

It would be a shame, as 2 is easily my favorite and I think fixed a lot of the crap segments from 1 but with modern writers you always lean towards shit writing and this being shelved this may be a good thing unfortunately as is the case with the Kotor remake.

I don't think they have the talent and the will to make 3's ending not shit either, nevermind some of the crazy concepts that could have been tackled with 3 or 4 like the graveyard fleets or returning to Earth and that marker.

Then just ask for a port. Unrealistic I know, but personally, I don't like the concept of being worthlessly haggled to pay extra or even full price for an old game, and the excuse of "it's because it's built from the ground up" doesn't do anything for me. It's a vile tactic and we enabled them to keep doing it by buying these dumbass re-releases.

I thought 1 was considerably better, 2 for me felt more of the same, with a few cool additions that wore off along with the rest of the game as I played more. And I really disliked how they ruined the suit upgrades, I really liked the natural suit progression from 1.

Also, so I don't sound like a doomer, I do like some re-releases, most notably NightDive's remasters/remakes, I think their output is the single most consistent and warranted in the practice. Their remastering work is the textbook example of how to do a remaster, their remastering choices are the textbook of why do a remaster. It reached a point where I'd just check out whatever new project they'd be working on, even if I'm not familiar with the original to-be-remastered game, because I know they'll do it justice. These are re-releases everyone should get behind.

They did the Shadowman remaster that added a bunch of cut content right? Solid studio.

Adding cut content is pretty much a rule for them, I think they try and do that whenever possible.

Seriously just their work on the Quake remasters for example should be the gold standard of a proper re-release, that other studios should learn from and follow.

Well you bitches should've bought it.
I got it on disc full price on ps5.
meanwhile I've seen ton of comment waiting for it to get to gamepass

Thats also why I have not replayed Deadspace 2 as amazing as it is because all the DLC autoloads giving you endgame gear destroying any sense of progression and as far as I can tell there is no way to manually disable the DLC unlike a lot more recent games. One of the dumbest examples of a lack of choice I've seen in a game.

This does suck, a Dead Space 2 remake, possibly a overhauled Dead Space 3 with a ending that would allow for a Dead Space 4 were all something I was actually cautiously looking forward to.

Dead Space remake for me was a "wait for 50% discount" game. As soon as it dropped from £70 to £35 I bought it. It's a very good game and I recommend people play it. I just don't think it actually needed to be remade, hence me buying at the discounted price.

It's up there with RE4 and TLoU1 and 2 for games that did not need to be remade whatsoever.

Originals still hold up today.

Always nice to have the option though, especially if you have a PC more powerful than any of the consoles

True. I just feel that remaking certain games that are relatively new and or perfect is kinda moot.

I guess I'm just getting old and view RE4 and DS as still new compared to actual ancient stuff.

Bruh, RE4 is ancient.

Most people who played it here really liked it, myself included. Chatter in the OT was also versy positive. It's a great game!

I did think at the time it was strange giving away the original Dead Space 2 as a pre order bonus if they were going to do a remake of it.

Honestly, I'm kind of ok with this.

I really wasn't fond of the narrative changes in the remake.

There is the option on PC though, it's always been there, it's called upscaled emulation and community textures, and it's free too!

NES hitting the market to RE4 and RE4 to now are basically the same amount of time. It's ancient and that's ok.

That logic doesn't necessarily amout to anything too. Say a game from NES era gets remade in the PS2 era, at least that's a jump from 2D sprites to full 3D geometry and textures. The jump from RE4 to REmake 4 is what? From third person horror shooter to .... uhh....higher res third person horror shooter? with ray tracing I guess! not the most convincing excuse to do a game again.

I'd have bought it, but TBH all you hear (inluding on d-pad) is large critism towards remakes and remasters.

Don't worry, our small minority don't actually amount to the more massive consoomers who buy like no tomorrw, you'll probably still have your remakes if we use feedback as a metric.

Yeah I'd like a healthy balance of both, but especially want remakes if it's the only way to get them on PC I.e Last of Us, Bloodborne etc.
