Thread: Whats the latest and greatest balls to the wall PC hardware showcase game?
@Spiders

What kind of stick are you forcing to run on your PC where its not just being accepted natively?

My daily driver is a modded PS3 stick, and the one before that was a modded Wii U stick I utilized an adapter for

I'll give you the counter example: I can plug *anything* with a USB into my MiSTer and I can map it however I like including secondary buttons and it saves it on a per device profile, and I can map again on a per core basis.

You know the MiSTer is more a PC than a console right? 😁. In any case, I think our enemy is the same here: Windows, and I agree on that end,I thankfully I got away from that mess recently. Never looking back.

(mainly Japanese indie and shmups made in GameMaker, STG Builder, etc.) and if I force compatibility, I'm getting weird timings.... like Sophstar for example runs smooth but at like 75% speed (which I *might* end up using for practice lol).

Sorry I don't know what half of that means, I don't think I can help. My steam library of 130 something is all playable save for Rainbow Six Siege, and fuck those bitches if they don't feel like sending an email to the anti cheat company to flip a switch and make the game work on Proton. But other than that one example, it's perfect. Though evidently it varies depending on what you have on your library.

Why not just use an Xbox controller and play games on Steam, EGS, or GOG though?

Heck, even OG Deus Ex has and updated version on Steam for modern systems

Idk man, i dont fuss with shit. I dont even mod like Skyrim or Fallout or anything lol

The rare instance where something doesnt work, its like a 99 cent Steam copy of Soul Reaver or something, and I just play the Dreamcast version via ReDream etc

Seems like youre trying to do weird things

Like forcing Windows 7 in 2024? Windows 11 really isnt that bad is it? My gripes couldnt be more minor

The Windows 7 rig has S-Video output, so yeah it's a particular use case, but playing modern indie shmups and arcade games that support 240p and blst my retinas with phosphors is the future I want to live in, but I'm being obsoleted into a Unabomber style existence hahaha

Like, my Elden Ring experience was "console-quality" ease for sure, but even an "AAA" like Street Fighter 6 would fuck up my buttons that I had to set my in-game mapping profiles based on whether or not it felt like seeing my config or not.... definitely a lot of little things that build up. I've definitely never had a better experience on PC than console outside of strict in-game performance, but even that isn't 100% always better on PC... I'll get more screen tearing and artifacts with V-Sync on (or off) for the PC version of a game I also have on Switch or PS4.

My bad boy rig is running Windows 10. I heard Windows 11 is a mess for gaming, and I don't want that creeping co-pilot bullshit on my "main driver".

I do! MiSTer runs on a Linux kernel. I don't need a GUI or any bullshit like that... I just want to sit down, pick a game from my library with the controller I'm playing with, press start, and play. MiSTer has the best 0-to-Gaming speed of any device save original hardware pre-PS3/XBOX360. Even 3DS boot is an eyeroll for me lol.

If a game doesn't run on Steam Deck / Proton, you can force it into "experimental" through Steam and performance widly varies.

I have it down to 1 program I'm stuck with Windows on... after that I'm going all in on Linux. I'll take whatever works and whatever doesn't, oh well.

Weve already discussed this. Remember? We bonded over Sanitarium?

Ive owned all the consoles over the years from Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, and Sega shy of the VirtualBoy, Nomad, and Master System. Even had a Turbografx and Intellivision at one point.

PC is just the best, most versatile, option. Hands down. Idk why you feel the need to condescend in multiple threads when you admittedly have a decade + old recollection of the medium.

"Muh plug and play" isnt a sustainable argument any longer.

Nevertheless, I'll continue to enjoy my lazy Sunday...

Hope you do the same, Don.

I think if you take my comments as condescension, you're just being sensitive. You're the one who said "I literally can't see any downsides to PC gaming".

Mind you, this is in a thread where you're pleading for people to name off high-end games that push PC hardware to the limits. Don't you find that a bit silly?

Not really

Was hoping for some new game i may not gave been privy to.

I still dont see any downsides to PC gaming, and find your outdated mindset far sillier. Most examples in this thread are niche

I think it makes sense. In today's world, with what's available to play, there's no downside to your preferred platform being PC.

It'll get all the modern shitty games and they'll be better than anywhere else (usually).

How do you have so much free time? Waiting for your shaders to pre-compile again?

I've dealt with a bit of that recently when trying to get TotK running as smoothly as I had it a year ago (updates messed with mod compatibility), but soyjak-impersonator Viva and Robert Barnes kept me infotained.
