For real though, first movie that comes to mind is Black Panther. It got hyped so much as the best Marvel movie, the best superhero movie of all time etc.
In the end, it was a pretty average movie and nothing special at all.
The Dark Knight - Begins is better excluding Ledger and to be honest I like the badguy concept of Ra more than the Joker. Arkham City does this in a pretty fun way.
Arrival - Whole concept is nope.
Women lets her child die even with alien future foreknowledge.
Shutter Island - The climax
requires one of the characters to set up a damn chart and presentation to explain everything. Absolute garbage.
The Last Jedi - Fuck this. Arguably the worst blockbuster ever released, only not quite because even worse shit beyond it like Jupiter Ascending, Independence Day Resurgence and GI Joe the Rise of Cobra exist. A real life The Producers for Star Wars and it hasn't recovered since.
Knives Out - Modern liberalism the movie.
Interstellar - Nice special effects too bad about everything else.
I do like inception, and Dunkirk had its moments, but yeah I can't help but feel like Nolan would be better served just being a director and left the writing to someone else (and not his Brother either).
As for over-rated anything Tarantino after Jackie brown. I think QT and Chris Nolan could easily give each other a run for the money in the huffing their own farts stakes.
Not sure if writing is going to help. Nolan edits his movie as long music videos. They consist of short 1 seconds shots no matter if it's action scene or a calm moment, with Zimmer's boom boom never shutting up. He learned that shit from Terrence Malick who is another massive hack. There's no pacing in his movies at all.
Tarantino is good when he keeps his self-indulgence in check. He's a great writer and makes unique movies.
Braveheart - Absolute historical trash once you learn of the real history of 13th century Scotland and William Wallace. It's themes of FREEDOM are completely alien to the people of the era, but hey, it appeals to American mindset.

South Park the Movie
Imagine being excited for the Star Wars sequel trilogy, only to get what we got.
Good thing Mass Effect 3 and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull showed me years before what true disappointment is in watching stories I adored burned into cinders for hollywood execs who really didn't give a absolute fuck about making something amazing.
My least favorite Star Wars movie was Rogue One. It was too cold and completely lacked the heart which is the epicenter of Star Wars. Characters were also all forgettable. Even the "quirky" droid felt forced and out of place. A hollow attempt at capturing the soul of the franchise.
Last Jedi on the other hand is my favorite Star Wars movie apart from New Hope and Empire. I genuinely believe it'll be more respected as it ages. The movie took lots of risks, and people hated it for that. Last Jedi felt like a subversive art film at times.
Man, I loved that movie. It's almost even greater just by virtue of the fact that it pissed so many nerds off.
Definitely. With that said, I feel like it's completely collapsed in popularity in the years since its release. I'm skeptical the new films will really do all that well.

bro last jedis gotten enough flack hasn't it? I mean its a mediocre movie idk what masterpieces people were expecting when disney announced that there was gonna be a new star wars movie coming out every year I mean I've seen way worse movies than last jedi. Idk why anyone had expectations to begin with the best part of the series was the original 3 the prequels are good too but I mean not that good I mean it had jar jar in it for crying out loud that ruined the whole tone of the prequels. Then generic anime action scenes that weren't very interesting to watch, the whole time it was kinda obvious who anakin was. Despite all of that they were at least trying 8-9 idk what happened it became a whole stupid slew of anime nonsense. Star wars is just suffering from what so many animes suffer from they start off real good then right at the end the creator just gives in. At least thats my steaming hot take.

I was replying to a admittingly off topic question about some of my favorite movies, spaceballs is one of the movies I consider one of the best in the comedic genre.
I think Citizen Kane is the most overrated movie I have seen. It is arranged sort of like a mystery film but there isn't really that much to the story. Casablanca was far more interesting and that's from the 1940's as well.
Another one that got hyped to death but didn't do anything for me
'Trainspotting'
Just a bunch of sweaty junkies!
I think this thread highlights the issue is that some films get so hyped up, that when you watch them later you often think 'what was all the fuss about?'
Well first of all Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home is a great movie because unlike the capeshit of today, the characters don't all have their head up their asses all the time. The Voyage Home was basically the Star Trek crew in the modern day, with the characters having to sort out an unusual problem with silly hijinks in between. While the film is about trying to save the world, they don't have superior government types berating them and villains that you know are just going to be defeated no matter what. I still regularly watch the Voyage Home every year or so because it's an interesting film, while modern audiences just watch the same superhero movie bundled as a new release every month or so and pretend they are actually different to the last one.
