Perfect Blue is great, watched it again recently as it's available on YouTube, one of my favorites
Just wrapped up the first episode of Season 2 of Silo. Pretty good opener honestly, keeping the focus solely on Juliet and her journey out from the Silo, and the discovery of an abandoned one and her exploration of that, as well as setting up some questions.

Not what I was expecting but pretty interesting horror movie on religion. The bad guy had some good points though
I don't think anyone else here even watches Cobra Kai so I don't know why I'm even bothering to type this, but I will say that while I enjoyed the recent batch of episodes (with arguably the best fight scenes of the entire series) there are things that felt silly, rushed, and in some cases just poor writing. What I'm about to say is a little spoilerish, so read on at your own risk
It feels increasingly like the show is leading to a series finale that is just all about Cobra Kai, Miguel, and Johnny which is sad because Robbie is a better written character than Miguel, not to mention Robbie is the character who was set up since season 1 to essentially be the new Karate Kid, and he's also Johnny's actual son (unlike MIguel). It also feels, based on this recent batch of episodes and a few leaks I've seen online regarding the final episodes in February, that this show is ultimately going to bury Miyagi-Do when all is said and done. It seemed in previous seasons that the show was trying to focus on presenting Miyagi-do and Cobra Kai as ying and yang and build up a story about balancing the pros/cons of both styles, with Johnny/LaRusso, Robbie/Miguel, and Tory/Sam representing two sides of the same coin, but it seems like the show is ultimately just going to end with Cobra Kai standing tall, represented by Johnny and MIguel, essentially shitting on the legacy of The Karate Kid and Miyagi-Do. Oh, and did I mention that they are also telling a story now about how Mr. Miyagi killed someone in a fight? How are longtime Karate Kid fans feeling about this? Mr. Miyagi was this perfect role model and now they are giving him this fucked up past where he murdered someone. Would Pat Morita approve?
So in the end, Cobra Kai will be remembered as another show that took an old classic thing that we loved (Karate Kid and Miyagi-Do), only to deconstruct it and ruin it for modern audiences. I'm not going to also mention that the person they are building up to be the show's ultimate hero (MIguel) is a POC while the white boy (Robbie) is going to get the Vegeta treatment...oh wait, I guess I just did. I'm not saying the show is woke or anything...or maybe I am. I don't now, I'm just kind of perplexed about the direction of this season. I always liked the idea of Robbie and Miguel as equals and true rivals, but they have clearly established an unstoppable, invincible opponent (like Jiren from Dragonball) named Axel and they've made it GLARINGLY obvious that it's gonna be Miguel who takes him down, likely with Johnny supporting him. Meanwhile, Daniel LaRusso, Robbie, Sam and Miyagi-Do will be taking a back seat to all this. Robbie's likely going to get beaten and maybe even hurt by Axel so Miguel can be the guy who beats him. They've also established a badass female named Zara for Tory to take down, completely dropping the Tori/Sam rivalry because fuck Miyagi-Do, which Sam represents.
Supposedly, LaRusso is actually going to shut down Miyagi-Do in the coming episodes.

Had not seen this one since the theaters when I was a kid. I had vaguely remembered it being humorous. 35 years later I still had some chuckles. Yea, it was clearly lower budget (as evident by miniatures used for cars traveling), and most of the acting was sub par....but damn were the Martians funny to laugh at. Their banter alone is worth the viewing.

So the How to Train Your Dragon remake is really bizarre. It's all live action...but Toothless and the other dragons look EXACTLY the same as the original movies. It's fucking weird. It's like you're watching the original movie...but you're not. Oh, and they raced swapped the main love interest who is a Nordic blond girl because...of course they did.
You know I can defend something like Jim Gordon being race swapped in The Batman, because it arguably doesn't matter. Gotham is a big, urban city with a lot of different races that could realistically live there. Jim Gordon could be a black dude, and it's a new version of The Batman universe so whatever, but the girl from How to Train Your Dragon is a FUCKING NORDIC VIKING WOMAN.
That said, I'd laugh my ass off if they did a reverse Robert Downey Jr. from Tropic Thunder and tried to make her look as white as possible. I might actually support that because the backlash it might get would be hilarious. Could we call her racist for doing White Face?

I enjoyed it a lot! A lot better than I expected. Not as good as the original but that was always going to be a high bar to beat.

Yeah, it's not perfect, but I enjoyed it for what it was. I think it gets a bad wrap because people really have a hate boner D&D after GoT, but within itself, I thought 3BP was pretty fascinating and I'm very interested to see where it goes. Being a Netflix gig they obviously had to DEI it to hell and back (just like every show these days even on HBO), but from what I understand they keep to the principals, which honestly is the best you can hope for these days The boat scene was pretty bonkers and really well done.
Anyway, I caught up with S3 EP9 of FROM is building to a pretty interesting Climax. Given the burgeoning cast on the show, I wouldn't remotely be surprised to witness a major kill-off during the Season finale.
Also watched S2 E2 of Silo. Whereas the first episode focussed on Juliet discovering and exploring the ruined Silo, this one jumped back to Silo 18 to cover the events and aftermath of Juliet not only refusing to clean, but also having crested the ridge and walked over and out of sight, which is something no one has ever done before and naturally sent shockwaves through the Silos inhabitants, and how the Major Bernard has to keep his wits in order to stop or at least forestall a mass walk out.
Overall, it is a pretty good episode and brought a few back characters from Season 1 to greater prominence as well as raised some intriguing questions. They definitely go in a slightly different direction in the Show versus the book, but honestly, the book series is very much a case of great premise and storyline but exceptional unmemorable characters. Whereas the series is doing a much better job at giving them all a bit more dimension. Knowing what I know I'm really fascinated as to whether this season will touch upon an even bigger unknown, or whether that will be saved for a 3rd Season.

Glad you are enjoying it Ben.It definitely has a bit of a comedic aspect to it in terms of some of the dialogue. The show deviates a bit from the books, as an adaptation but for the most part, it sticks with the principles as far as the plot goes. Lamb in the books is somewhat different in that he's a much more heavy-set man, sort of Orson Wells/Sydney Greenstreet, but also surprisingly nimble on his feet. Oldman plays more into the slobbish aspects of his character, but at the same time, he pulls it off well and some of his lines are pure killer. I do like the acerbic relationship between him and River especially.
FROM S3 E10 Season Finale. I said goddamn. A good wrap-up with just the right amount of meaningful answers given to existing mysteries with further mysteries dropped for next season. Off with my prediction about a mass kill-off, however still a shocking finale nevertheless. Good news though is the series has been renewed for a 4th Season, unfortunately, ETA on Arrival is 2026, which means they haven't started filming yet which is a pity as I was hoping for a 2025 release, still solid stuff and looking forward to where it goes.

Yeah, it's adapted from the book series. The first Season covers the first half of Wool and Second Season should cover the rest. I like it. It sticks close to the source material for the most part, and being an Apple series it's got decent production values. I don't think it is going to be winning any Emmys for acting, however, Rebecca Ferguson is great and for the most part the performances are good. I'd recommend giving it a look.

Home Alone (1990)
Since thanksgiving dinner has come and past, we moved on to christmas. This is such a fun movie. Loved as a kid, but appreciate it so much more as an adult. Lots of subtle humor and legitimately touching scenes.
It's really too bad that they made those shitty sequels. Neither came remotely close to catching lightning in a bottle again.

This guy is one of my all time favorites after Thoughts and Prayers........I went into this thinking I was going to be disappointed but I'm more worried I'm going to wake up the neighborhood laughing.
This is extreme dark comedy focused primarily on child abuse, forewarning you ahead of time. Dude delivered another top tier banger.

Also watched Home Alone last night. I forget how funny it really is when the bandits are getting their asses kicked.
The Return of Godzilla (1984)
I dont remember ever watching the Heisei era Godzillas, so really wanted to dive in and see how they were. The first one here was a mixed bag. It started SUPER STRONG but the 'people' bits kind of teetered into meh. Way too much morality around nuclear weapons, weak characters and laughable caricatures of Americans and Soviets. Also had some lame 'action' bits that didnt add much.
But the monster stuff was darn good. The updated Godzilla was awesome. Looked great, moved great....even had a mild personality. Though since this was a reboot and sequel to the 1954 original, Godzilla is the villain (sort of) and doesnt fight other monsters. Instead he fights the Japanese SDF. But luckily they created a superweapon, just in case Godzilla returned....Super X! Despite Super XC being kinda meh, their fight is pretty fun.
On the whole, a decent kaiju flick and leaves me hopeful for the potential of the subsequent Heisei films.

I didn't have very high expectations, but it's not bad. Not bad at all. I'd put it up there with Bumblebee (2018) as a pretty solid Transformers movie, and just like Bumblebee this is a movie for G1 fans. I enjoyed this and would recommend it to G1 Transformers fans. It does have a girl boss character which rose some woke red flags for me initially, but she becomes fairly likable over the course of the movie. I'll take her over Prince Peach from that recent Mario movie. It's like they had to have a girl boss cause it's 2024, but she doesn't outshine the male characters (which automatically makes her better than Princess Peach). So I'm cool with it. Like I said, good movie.

Transformers One is a must-watch, I can't get it out of my mind. That movie deserved more love, hopefully word of mouth keeps pumping up its numbers. I was trashing it when I started watching it, might be the most my mind has ever changed during a movie.
The Marxist influence is unmistakable, but it manages to rise way above that and the horribly cringe marketing. Both Elita-1 and Arachnid push the 'strong woman' messaging, easy enough to set that aside given that they're, well, robots. The male characters do the usual stumbling around and Bumblebee pushes that to extremes, though Pax/Optimus and D-16/Megatron developed beautifully over the course of the movie. The rocky Megatron/Starscream relationship was perfectly captured and even the goofy Badassatron line by Bumblebee paid off before it was all said and done.
A parallel that can take the mind to some dark places when you consider what The Boys aimed to do with Homelander and what happened in One:
