Thread: What are you watching?
Yeah, Slow Horses is pretty damn excellent. definitely recommended viewing. I enjoyed the show so much I ended up listening to the entire book series (bar the novellas) just before the latest season landed. The book are slightly different from the show, but for the most part, the show it sticks to the principal idea of the book in terms of the narrative direction. The Audible books are a good 10+Hrs, so they don't do a bad job when it comes to adaptation, but just being 6 episodes they have to condense things a bit. I find it pretty interesting that Season 5 is already in the can, but isn't getting released until next year. I hope that means season 6 might already be in development.

Shit, do I have to watch Slow Horses now? I've seen it come up a handful of times with only very positive impressions.

I still haven't watched the new House of the Dragon. And yet here I am watching episodes of News Radio here and there.

Oh and one more thing, when I saw the trailer I thought the humor would be super cringe. However, once you see the movie a lot of the humor actually works. It's like they took all of the lamest funny bits and put them in the trailer, but there's a lot of genuinely funny writing in the movie.

Really? Cuz the trailer was absolutely disgustingly cringe. The entire vibe was Hollywood playdoh factory. I assumed this would bomb with anyone other than kids and cloistered (pre) teens.

It has a good cast of characters and a degree of humour runs through it.

Honestly, I'd say you might as well hold off for the next season. Although there were some good scenes throughout the season it doesn't lead to a big season climax as one might expect. Apparently they wanted to do it, but there just wasn't the budget for it, so they had to push it back.

This is a much better fan made trailer:

Transformers One is better than every single Michael Bay Transformers film...though that's admittedly a pretty low bar. Here's my top 3 Transformers movies now:

1. The Transformers: The Movie (1986)
2. Transformers One
3. Bumblebee (2018)

I'm an hour into Furiosa and bored out of my mind. I don't care about this story they are telling, when do things start blowing up?

Finished Furiosa. There is some pretty great action, when the movie finally gets past its boring first hour, but nowhere near as much of it as Fury Road. Furiosa is more interested in telling a story than Fury Road, so it feels like there is less action than Fury Road. What's there is great though. There is one set piece that is utterly amazing, and another one that is nearly as great. The problem with this movie is that this is a story that didn't need to be told and the way that the story resolves itself isn't very satisfying.

It's not a bad movie, and it's not woke, but it's not as memorable as Fury Road. I like Furiosa as a character, but I don't think she needed her own movie.

On a side note, if any of you have played the Mad Max video game some things will feel very familiar.

Finally started watching King of the Hill. Never got on with it when it first aired but I was thinking it's about time I gave it another shot, since I love Mike Judge's other work. Glad I did. Just polished off series one and can see why it has the following that it does.

I also started the Dandadan anime. They've done a good job with the adaptation, it's as mental as the manga. Wish they slapped the whole season out in one go, though.

I was a teenager when News Radio was airing on TV, and one thing my kid brain didn't pick up on that my adult brain is picking up on is that Beth (the redhead with the witch nose) has a really fucking nice body. And she's constantly showing it off.

I probably thought she was ugly and barely even noticed her as a kid. But as an adult, god damn, I wanna bend that fire beaver over and burn my lips off on the combustible snatch

I'm starting to really like Guy Ritchie as a film maker. This and The Covenant are both really enjoyable.

I really dug this too, the start is pretty fantastic. Feels like it drags in the end but a fun action/spy movie. Thinking there could be sequels

Hysteria! - It's like Stranger things + Satanic Cult best way I can shortly describe it. I'm already on episode 4 gonna binge it all tonight or close.

Im on season 2 of Farscape

Episode 15 to be exact

This show rules, love all the practical effects and how crass it is at times

A definite change of pace from Babylon 5 *which i also loved*, but a welcome one

Cheers @Stilton Disco

No spoilers please!

Somebody must have thought, "Can we actually top the iconic Prime vs Megatron fight from the 86 Movie?" and someone probably answered, "We can damn sure try"

I watched Frankie Freako, from the maker of Psycho Goreman. Honestly... not as good, was a little disappointed by it. The puppets were pretty good though.

Reagan (2024)

MV5BNDg3NjY2ZGUtNzcwNy00NjFhLWJhZDMtNmIyM2JkYzE5YTI1XkEyXkFqcGc@._V1_.jpg

Finally got to watch Reagan. I enjoyed it, but its not winning any awards. It was kinda like watching Hercules in the 90s (which also has Kevin Sorbo!). Where you are enjoying yourself, but its clear there is a limited budget. Overall I thought Dennis Quaid did a great Reagan. Captured so many mannerisms well and it was believable despite not looking like Reagan really. Also enjoyed Penelope Ann Miller as Nancy.

Was kind of surprised with the way the story was told. No where in the trailers did I get a sense that it would be a literal story being told...from the Soviet Intelligence perspective. It is John Voight as a Soviet intelligence agent telling the story of Reagan to a younger Russian MP (I think...I missed when they said who he was exactly)

If you liked Reagan before watching, you will love him after. Its mostly positive on him, highlighting the good stuff. While they did touch on Iran-Contra and him having Alzheimer's, it still had you on his side. And not gonna lie, the closing scenes and credit montage had my eyes watering a bit.

One hell of a Real American.

About to watch the last episode of Agatha all along, not really for this type of audience but I enjoyed it more so than a lot of the recent stuff that came out aside from a few unnecessary moments.

They have to crowbar in it's okay the 'boy' is a witch because he's gay. Aside from one 'hey look i'm gay' episode the series stays pretty true to the whole witch-story.

Dunno who I'd recommend this to..... if you like Marvel and Hocus Pocus....give it a try lol

I'm a bit sad The Penguin is ending. The show has been so good. It feels like it has enough gas for a few more episodes.

The Batman and The Penguin give me hope for other female characters in this universe. Catwoman and Sofia Falcone have been great. I'm now imagining a Batman movie with Talia al Ghul as the main villain. That would be something kind of fresh and fun.

I'm fully onboard with this Batman universe, and it would be nice if they could successfully spin other stuff off from it.

I'm watching through the election arc of Parks & Rec to celebrate election season. It's still pretty funny and, surprisingly, there was a time when lefties could poke fun at Both Sides.

I never realized Seinfeld started in 1989. I can remember distinctly a time in my dysfunctional family home when friends/seinfeld was much like Thursday family viewing time. Big fan of Curb as well but having been born in 82 it's very clear I missed a big majority of the comedy here.

Started watching Seinfeld on Netflix from E1........ to think this show is in 1989 but the writing/humor literally on point for anything current. Fucking brilliance!

Seeing Zachary Levi passionately talk about the Trump administration makes me want to go back and re-watch one of my all time favorite shows again:

Still one of the best intros of any show I've seen:

Zachary seems to be one of the few celebs who is not a complete tool

Well, we now have our definitive Penguin, and proof that The Batman can support multiple limited series, should they choose to do that. I'm looking forward to The Batman II.

Munchies (1987)

The great (but not so great) homage to Gremlins. Loved this one as a young boy. Its one of those "its so bad, its good" type of films. Acting and production quality was second rate...but its charm and goofiness carry the day. Basically it was and still is fun to watch if you set expectations.

Since it is a Gremlins homage/parody, it follows a similar arc. A strange little creature who seems nice is brought home... only for it to turn aggressive and multiply. Ultimately wreaking havoc on a small town.

This 80's wonder flop has aged well (unlike Mac & Me), so if you liked it 30 years ago, you probably would still enjoy today.

Spoilers for the end of The Penguin:

"I've never seen any version of the character outside of comic books that I can say I hate in the sense of wanting to see Batman punch his face until he's a bloody mess. So good job writers. Very good job. No one on this show was a saint, including Victor, but Penguin just comes across as the biggest monster of them all by far. He's an emotionless, two-faced, lying, power hungry, narcissist with a fucking weird mom complex"

It's funny that we got The Penguin spinoff from The Batman. I imagine they'll stick with this naming convention. Maybe we'll eventually get The Batgirl, The Poison Ivy, The Court of Owls, etc.

FROM

A friend of mine had been telling me to get into this for a while, and I finally relented.

It's from Jack Bender, a producer/director on LOST & Under the Dome.

The basic premise is a small town where people end up trapped from all over the States, that at night is overrun by monsters. Much like LOST there's an overarching mystery to it and it even has Harold Perrineau as one of the leads. However, unlike LOST this seems to have been thought through to some degree, unlike JJ Abrams Mystery Box BS.

I think if you dug LOST before it went to shit, then you'll probably enjoy it. 3rd Season is about to conclude and hopefully it gets renewed for a 4th.

Just watched "Woman of the Hour" on Netflix. The Anna Kendrick true crime story about the serial killer who appeared on the Dating Game in the 70s.

Pretty good movie, Anna Kendrick never disappoints.

Next up is gonna be Hot Frosty. The new Lacy Chabert Xmas movie on Netflix where she fucks a snowman or something.

Gamera 2: Attack of Legion (1996)

In a word. Awesome. Like the earlier one in the series, this is some kaiju action at its finest. I mean, that last fight...so good. The way Gamera comes sliding in and shooting fireballs. Was like an anime almost.

Story is pretty strightforward, the earth is threatended by a new monster (from space!) and Gamera is summoned to fight it. I can get behind that. And the monster was actually interesting.

Did a decent job with the people storyline, though there is limited development there. Really just likeable characters in a series of events/settings. And the girl who can talk to Gamera is back! It still makes no sense, but it doesnt matter. It fits the the tone of the film.

I am gleefully looking forward to closing out the Heisei Trilogy with Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris very soon.
I'm suprised Gamera has not had a crossover with Godzilla yet. I've heard a lot of good stuff about Gamera, and his 90s trilogy often being listed among the high marks of kaiju films.
