I would agree with you on Nintendo if not for seeing Palworlds #'s. Nintendo just got one of their biggest IP's pants pulled down around the ankles and MS should be looking to make regular iterations of Palworld as a direct market rival to Pokemon.
They don't need to beat Nintendo to kill Nintendo. They just need to buy similar IP's that actually want to evolve past Nintendo UI's that hasn't changed much since 2000
Palworld tells us one thing more than anything else. Nintendo has been sandbagging their fans for 20 years now.
I am sure that Nintendo only owns a percentage of the Pokemon company and I am pretty sure that the games are only about 20% of their income. Basically, The Pokemon Company is a merchandise company and videogames are only a part of that.
Palworld 2 would appear, what, 3 years from now?
It's not outside the realms of possibility that Nintendo will royally fuck up their Switch predecessor but if it's another affordable handheld aimed at families then MS isn't going to compete with that using a janky survival game with cutesey character that most people want to play on a gaming PC.
Similarly the main danger to Sony is themselves at this point. They have too many top tier exclusive IPs and people are going to be buying the next iteration of those for years to come.
