Ok there's just so many rumors now about all this. Ms has never been discussed this much on GAF, and reddit also goes crazy so I think we could use a main thread for all rumors and BS.

"SHG refused to create what their boss tells them to"

Smells much like BS console fanboy stuff, otherwise SHG deserves to be fired for not doing what they are told to.

Imagine going to your work today, your boss tells you to do a lame ass assignment and just say "Nuh uh, not today boss".

Thankfully this are just console war disguised as news

Looks like I should consider selling my Series X. There's practically no reason for me to keep it. I mean, I knew this considering I have a high end PC, but even more so now if Xbox is just going to be on Playstation.

Who's gonna buy it?

*sigh*
I've said this before and I'll say it again.

Halo. If Halo isn't good then Xbox will fail. Halo hasn't been good since 2010 and Xbox has failed for the past decade as a result.

The problem now is I think it's far too late and the damage is done.
Phil Spencer needs to lay out a full plan for the future of Halo and 343. The studio is essentially a skeleton crew after the layoffs/high level departures.

Xbox=Halo. It is no surprise that Xbox has been lousy for the past decade when Halo has been mismanaged.

Phil needs to do a full statement saying:
A: Where the studio is.
B: How it got there (admit the failures of the studio and their entire design philosophy.)
C: The plan to fix it (Starting with Halo 3 Anniversary and a commitment to revert to the original Halo trilogy formula.)
D: The future of Halo Infinite
E: Cancel the Paramount show

Anything less than this is failure in my eyes so...yeah... not expecting a lot.
Probably a Halo Infinite Season 4 trailer and that's it.
Phil Spencer didn't reign in 343 when he had the chance (hell he had NUMEROUS chances!!)

Bonnie Ross should have been fired after MCC in 2014.
Xbox is Halo. Halo is Xbox. Halo has been lousy for a decade and as a result so has Xbox.
Microsoft deserves this. Not necessarily for the Xbone disaster (I think they have adequately atoned fro that) but for the pure negligence they have shown in managing the Halo franchise.

Xbox IS HALO, and Halo hasn't been good in a decade. Makes sense that Microsoft's console sales the past decade have been substantially less than their competitors.
If they had reigned in 343 earlier and made the correct changes in leadership after Halo 4/MCC then maybe they wouldn't be in such a rough spot.

343 Industries killed Xbox.

I'm clearly in the minority because I don't understand anything legit being said here.

MS's recent acquisition make them the single biggest hub of gaming going forward, Sony has their exclusives and MS literally got the rest of the bag.

If MS wants to kill Sony or Nintendo....they can. Do not mistake their generosity for weakness.

MS + PC is better than any console scenario and that's really what both MS and Sony know, it's really not about being "third party"

While I agree with most of what you're saying, can anyone besides Nintendo kill Nintendo? Sony tried with all its might, and still Nintendo stands taller than ever.

I would agree with you on Nintendo if not for seeing Palworlds #'s. Nintendo just got one of their biggest IP's pants pulled down around the ankles and MS should be looking to make regular iterations of Palworld as a direct market rival to Pokemon.

They don't need to beat Nintendo to kill Nintendo. They just need to buy similar IP's that actually want to evolve past Nintendo UI's that hasn't changed much since 2000

Palworld tells us one thing more than anything else. Nintendo has been sandbagging their fans for 20 years now.

With how expensive AAA games are to make, unless you have Nintendo's userbase, it's apparently not feasible to just sell their games on one platform alone. Hence why Sony is dipping into PC stuff and why MS is potentially doing it for competing platforms.

Not that I'm too interested in anything they've ever made, but I'll take HiFi Rush as a start for my PS5 if they're gonna do it.

No it's just Xbox. Nintendo and Sony are both still doing big numbers.

Maybe MS will release the Xbox Series BIG CHUG drinks bottle (to go with the series fridge and toaster) so you can sup a super big glass of cope-a-cola. More kitchen appliances released than first party games someone actually wants to play.

Ok.

Thats also on Microsoft allowing 343 to bungle Halo not once but multiple times in the first place, their iconic flagship franchise to such an extent and over a decade of time.

They could have brought in more comptent people, not allowed 5, Infinite to have shit tier releases and shit tier storylines.

Nor allowing the TV show, the biggest way to gain a huge audience long after Halo 3s peak, be completely unrecognizable in its story, characters with its execution, writing and planning being so horrible and I would put it in the same tier of Videogame Hell as the first Super Mario Brothers Movie, the Netflix Witcher, Resident Evil Movies/Netflix Resident Evil, Uncharted movie and the Zelda CDI games.

Sounds like I missed some big announcement? What's all this about?

edit: nevermind, just read some of the tweets above. Holy shit if true... I guess Gamepass being unsustainable is not surprising at all.

I haven't cared about Xbox hardware since the 360, but it would certainly be sad to see it go as a physical console. Would they just target PlayStation for the games they develop?

All of the developers that got acquired must be sweating now if they weren't already. If they truly exit the hardware business, it's not a too much of a leap to exit or dramatically downsize their gaming business altogether.

You're really enormously overestimating how much power Xbox have here.

They've spent the GDP of a small country in the past few years and have absolutely diddly squat to show for it. They've thrown as much shit at the wall as possible this past decade and absolutely nothing has stuck.

Their hardware sales are going down year after year. They're making bigger losses even as they're increasing revenue. Gamepass has been a wet fart, all the AAA games they bought flopped and they've managed to mismanage their biggest IP's into irrelevancy.

The amount of pull they have in the industry is next to nil. It's something even they argued to be allowed to buy ABK.

They physically cannot do shit to Nintendo, who they tried to buy, and were completely laughed out of the room by Team Red, while the only hope they have of killing PlayStation at this point is for Team Blue to continue copying their retarded moves.

And Palworld? Really? That's going to bring down Nintendo? I mean I'm impressed by the game's sales and glad to see Game Freak get embarrassed, but right now it's a flavour of the month surprise hit, while Pokémon is 30 years and a multimedia empire on from that, with even bigger sales despite putting zero effort in, and that's just one of Nintendo's many, MANY massive sellers.

I mean come the fuck on mate. MS might have deep pockets, but money cannot buy you success, let alone alone buy your competitors failure.

This is a ridiculous and hilarious take.

As if Microsoft is sitting back saying "yeah we could dominate the gaming industry but we're too nice for that".

Starfield was shit and that was their best shot at a genuine world-class console exclusive.

If you don't have the games then you won't sell the consoles and to be honest they don't have the games.

I suppose Palworld is going to save them?
