Thread: Star Wars Outlaws Thread |OT| Ubi shot first
Official Thread
So tiresome. Why can't these games have a good story line and a female protagonist who dosent have an uncanny resemblance to Matt Damon from Team America?

They probably skimp on those aspects of the game.

Huge budget to work with but they'll scrape the bottom of the barrel when it comes to writing and acting talent.

Star Wars branding, a few good shots of nice CGI sunsets, bribes for the media lickspittles and you're good to go as far as UbiShit is concerned.

Now they identify as subversion propaganda pieces confused if they want to be a movie or something else. -Such is the curse of post modernism.

The saddest thing about the current gaming climate is that no one is willing to try anything crazy and different anymore. It's the complete opposite of the 90s where you had weird shit like Earthworm Jim. Even something like Lollipop Chainsaw is "too problematic" these days.

It's kind of crazy to me that many gamers are still so easily dazzled by graphics.

Many modern games also see gaming as nothing more than a story-telling medium. "OMG it's like a movie but you can control the characters!" When are we going to get over that?

Then there's the constant hunger for "hype" and falling for marketing gimmicks over and over and over.

All of these crazy advancements in tech, exponential growth basically, and the best we have to show is "look at the ray tracing, doesn't the light just look so amazing!?"

Yeah, it's kinda cool but also what the fuck? Where are the ideas and the innovations outside of making open worlds bigger and better looking?

I look at Star Wars Outlaws and see a game that has plenty of competitors in the market already doing the same things but better. Ah, but this is a Star Wars branded videogame! Look at the vast deserts with amazing sunsets!

How did it all get so boring?

I see movies you star in as the absolute end goal for video games. That doesn't mean little game play or anything like that, to be clear. Any medium grows and matures, there is only so much you can do (same with films). The games we have now are what the general market wants and has rewarded with by sales. It's unfortunate there not to some people's tastes, but there's always niches that will satisfy any gamer. The fact is many, many times games that do something different are often met with tepid sales.

Shhhh...you'll make the master race angry

Well it's reductive to say someone just likes something for the graphics. But you know what even if those gamers exist, so what. End of the day they are getting alot of enjoyment out of what they love. Who are we to say because they love one element of games so much their opinion is "wrong".

I was just joking. That's the PC gamer stereotype though.

Master Race: "GRAPHICS! FRAME RATE!"

What about story and gameplay!

Master Race: "WHO CARES ABOUT THAT SHIT!!!"

Surely you can see the difference between letting people enjoy what they enjoy and those that can't and go in other threads to continually complain about a game they will never play.

What about making threads for games with these amazing innovations they do love, and make getting more eyeballs on those games in the process.

OK, that's fair enough. There's definitely room in the hobby to push limits on performance and graphics. To be honest I end up buying new consoles for a reason, so there is that.

Just feels like with gameplay we are getting more and more stuff that tends towards pretty boring and pretty safe. I would say that a Star Wars game with an enormous budget is exactly the time to push the boundaries of what's possible with gameplay.

The critiques regarding games that are yet to be released are part of the discourse. You may have a point if we are months past this release and people are still bitching about it.

I think Ubisoft would love that, actually, because it would keep their garbage in the limelight. Right now we are reacting to what has been shown and the reviews of people who have played it early. You are going to have to try a different tactic to shame those of us with valid critiques into being silent.

Why would you give a shit about that?
People are free to go into whatever threads they want and complain about whatever they want.
There's no need to be simping for Ubisoft.

For some people shitting on games is part of their identity.

That's why I have a 3090 to exclusively play 2d pixel art games. It's a modest life.

@Black Chamber Your OTs are incredible, and the visuals with this game would be insane (regardless of Disney's outright malice in handling Star Wars and hostility towards fans).

Also based off reviews I was expecting way more solid gameplay from the makers of the Division 1 and 2.

Or you know, there's a lot of shit games.

Funny how people make defending corporate drivel part of their identity and theyre not even getting paid for it.

It's like they are jannies; doing it for free.

There are a lot of independent reviewers calling out Star Wars: Outlaws for the mediocre game it is shaping up to be.

If people are so fragile that a shitty game is being identified causes them to have bad day, then perhaps they go visit the other topics of great games that get praised.

I'm consistent in calling games terrible when they are. See my posts in the Helldivers 2 game which I play daily, despite the missteps the devs have done with their updates. It's still a good game because the mechanics are good, despite the nerfs and it isn't a narrative driven linear movie.

Constructive criticism is fine and indeed an essential part of any thread. I think the Civ thread is a great example of concerns being put forward in a thoughtful way. But alot of the time it just comes across as moaning, especially when the complaints are so copy/paste generic.

The Star Wars films are pretty tame as well, I imagine it's a fairly well controlled IP, just like Marvel. It's an open world Star Wars game made by Ubisoft, it's not like the rug had been pulled out from anyone.

Are we allowed to point out how ugly the protagonist models are or is that not constructive? Generic talent deserves generic critiques.

For some of you here, you are all about the pretty graphics. Now what?

Hopefully they improve the AI in post-launch updates. It does look like it could be fun to run around and explore the various environments. NPCs aside, it's quite a good looking game.

I would have thought that "one of the biggest publishers in the world with a huge budget for development and a well established IP with several fantastic games connected to it should be able to do much much better than this" is a perfectly valid criticism.

As far as I have seen the best defense offered up for this game is that "it's OK".

Then you've got those using the ReeetardEra/Sarkeesian playbook. "Those who are complaining about the game are not good people and you wouldn't want to be like them now, would you?"

I will be surprised if this doesn't sell at least a few million copies. Or has Disney ruined the popularity of Star Wars that much?

It'll surely sell some millions, I'd be very surprised if it won't do somewhat well. That said I'm not totally confident that it'll make a profit, seeing how much money went into the development and especially the marketing.

Hype for the Star Wars IP is at an all time low after the cancellation of the Acolyte. Not much hype for Ubisoft games in general, next AC isn't shaping up to be a banger neither. Seems like many consumers are tired of the same old diversity ridden fast food gaming.

Let's see. It's going to be an interesting one.
