Thread: Square Enix isn't doing well...
Years from now, people will see Final Fantasy XIII in a new light, and realize that it was the last great FF game

Fans are constantly saying the overworld is like non-existent after a point, how can you say any game is great when the world in which everything resides is poorly made?

Bravely exists. With a little more love, the next Bravely could really be something special.

It's definitely a good turn based, still not a big production value like final fantasy. I could only hope for it

Final Fantasy 7 Remake/Rebirth should have been exactly the same as the Original-

Except if you are like Level 100/New Game Plus/Ultimate Gear/Abilites you can parry Sephiroth and save Aerith though massive changes and consequences ensue. Could have been a totally optional and gigantic diverging post game.

It also should have been one game, not 3.

Romancing Saga 2 Remake is being released next month.

Judging by the demo that just released it's going to be amazing if you like Saga games, but I can see reviewers docking it points for being difficult and "old school"

Square Enix was really good when it stayed consistently in it's own lane.
And then.....

Forspoken is a complete shift for this company. Female-Minority lead for a Japanese company that likely has very few female employees and even less black female employees.

How this project got greenlight for a company that's been selling us snow white spiky haired magic users for decades is beyond me.

Not saying this is the biggest culprit in their failure but starting to resemble a consistent pattern in making decisions not best for the company nor in the interests of the consumers who buy games.

Not defending Forspoken as its a shit game, but did you also have a problem with FF6 or FF13?

Forspoken has no business being spoken of in the same breath as these games.

Agreed, I just take issue with the idea Square is out of character when it comes to a female lead. Their 2nd best game ever made had a female lead and is loved and no one takes issues with its lead. And FF13, while also shit, still pushed a female lead hard and was accepted without issue (and wasn't bad because of said lead, but rather because of the continued failure at building worlds in the modern gen)

The fuck are you talking about? The whole second half of the game is open world and optional stuff. Open worlds in FF games are just a map with enemies to fight and dungeons to find. FF 13 is no different than any other FF game in that regard.

People don't know what the fuck they're talking about.

I did a quick search and GameFAQs popped up. Took me scrolling down just to post number three before the overworld was called out for sucking testicles bro. How does it compare to FFXII's overworld, Ivalice? Ivalice was pretty expansive, had some impressive structures and buildings, great wildlife areas and fields. Plenty of NPCs in each environment or place and most of them all contribute towards the story in one way or another. The characters in FFXII sort of acted as the game's substory with all the insights they gave towards events and certain political struggles, battles taking place and all. I'd argue that FFXII's overworld beats Twilight Princess's overworld (both games released in 2006) but I don't have confidence in FFXIII's overworld. Nobody ever praises it

And I believe in Japan Lightning is second only to Cloud in popularity as far as Final Fantasy protagonists are concerned.

The pushing of this gay bullshit confuses me. What's the point? Is this just a massive over correction because we used to call them limp wrists, fruits, pillow munchers, etc?

Freud and Jung said homosexuals were narcissists with a tendency toward malice. Turns out they were right 🤷‍♀️

Makes sense tbh. A guy who is in love with himself ends up being gay, maybe not even from truly being born with a predisposition to being attractes to men, but just from spending his formative years being obsessed with himself.

Keep in mind that homosexuality used to be in the DSM as a disorder. Psychology has always been a very secular field, so it wasn't included there because it was "sinful to be gay" or some other religious influence.

It was included in the DSM because homosexuality has several noteworthy behavioral disorders associated with it, statistically higher than a control group of heterosexuals. This includes narcissistic personality disorder, substance abuse, chronic depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, and other known behavioral conditions.

Remember, if you were "born gay", then your behavior is not your fault. It is one of the 20th century's earliest examples of behavior being excused because of a preexisting condition. At the same time that women were getting sick and tired of being told they couldn't do things because they were born a woman, gays were saying they were permitted to do taboo things because they were born a gay. That contradictory paradigm has played out in Western society for a century, the idea that your behavior, impulses, and passions aren't your fault if you're born a certain way, yet if you are born a certain way, people can't hold your stereotypical behavior against you.

And having your behavior held against you is like bleach to a narcissist. Their whole schtick is to protect a severe inferiority complex using reputation and manipulation.

square pretty much done it to themselves ps5 has a nearly 60 million install base and only a fraction of those buy their games...no amount of money will offset the fact sony console owners dont buy their games like they used too.

No one buys their games like they used to.

SE have made the same mistake three generations in a row, ignoring their core audience and the reasons their games used to sell millions in the pursuit of current trends and a wider, less specific consumer base.

All they've done is alienate their core customers and shrivelled their public mindshare. In their desperation to be whatever is supposedly popular and to copy what other are finding success with, they've lost there own identity and fallen far behind the competition in the areas they used to be industry leaders.

A more competent company would have managed way better and done way more with this lineup of JRPGs then they have. To think they are actually reducing mid tier RPGs in favor of "AAA" games...

Mismanaged Final Fantasy XII, XIII, XV, XVI and VII Remake. No excuses.

I've never played ff7. I want to play the remake, but there are several different ff7s on steam and it confused me so I just didn't bother.

Maybe Square Enix should streamline shit.

XI and XII are both way better than X. X is the original corridor FF, way before XIII did it.
XII was terrible. Gameplay was too far off the mark, bad story, & some of the characters outright suck, like Vaan & Ashe. I ended up taking the game back to Gamestop a week after it's official release when it was back in the GameCube/PlayStation 2/Original Xbox days.

Done the same with Devil May Cry 2, which was inferior to the original.

You have to wonder who should be fired out of a canon for the Chono series never materializing. You have Chrono Trigger which a lot of people consider the greatest JRPG of all time with a really excellent follow up in Chrono Cross and then......nothing. You get a million sequels to something extremely mediocre in the Mana series, you get a bunch of uninspiring final fantasy games that have lost their way, but the goat only gets one sequel.
