Thread: Resident Evil 4 Remake |OT| Welcome Back, Stranger!
Official Thread
Loving the game, but man, there a ton of sections where the blacks are completely crushed/clipped. Doesn't seem to matter if I'm playing in SDR or HDR. Just a complete loss of detail in the shadows.

This game is so fucking legit. Such a mad nostalgia rush re-exploring every nook and cranny. I like that the pacing doesn't seem to have been altered too heavily either, this is an elite tier remake and I'm not even at chapter 4 yet. Some nice changes sprinkled here and there just to keep things fresh and exciting too.

Also, Hardcore difficulty really seems to be the way to go for this one, I can't tell you how many times I've been run through by that damn chainsaw, but it's always nail biting stuff. I am so happy that the spirit of the original lives on and this elevated production was exactly what was needed. The remakes of 2 and now 4 really are some of Capcom's finest work ever.

Imagine if they actually make 5 and 6 good too?

Finished the first two chapters and loving it thus far. There have been a notable changes so far and I'm not really opposed to them like I thought I might be. I'm liking how much faster the gameplay is too, in terms of enemies and how they attack you. It is much more frantic than the original and I really like it.

Assuming the game maintains this level of quality, I'd take back my original position of "it could be good, but I'd rather just play the original". I'd play both periodically. Might be nice to have a new version of RE4 to run through every couple of years to keep it interesting.

Also, I find it funny that there's an achievement for beating the game without visiting the merchant. I used to do merchant-less runs to challenge myself back in the day. Didn't know it was a thing that people did until years later.

Wasn't sure whether or not to buy, then I found a good mix of settings in the demo. As I said before: I can't wait to minimum settings the fuck out of this.

Then I decided to go Deluxe, then PayPal threw £5 off at me, which was nice. £37

I wasn't sure at first because of poor performance, but between RTSS forcing decent frame pacing and ultra quality FSR I can maintain a fairly consistent 60fps in the demo. Only time will tell if that holds.

Very happy to hear that Mercs is coming, it would have been a travesty without it.

Disagree , they've packed a lot more stuff into just the first few chapters. Straight up feeling like bloat in some parts. Replayed the first game a few times this week before this came out, and generally 4 hours into the game I'm already well into the castle.

This RE game seems to be the most GPU heavy of them all. I can't run at 60FPS anymore with my Steam Deck. They added a shitload of options. When I put settings preset on Low, I still only get around 43FPS or less.

Interesting. Judging by the demo, I didn't see anything that was really visually impressive. Curious what causes this.

Oddly enough, I got worse performance putting everything on low. I went down 10 fps lmfao. The traversal stutter from the demo is still here too.

I don't know, I think with optimal strategy you could definitely be further than where I am, I played for 4 hours but I was mostly exploring, looking at changes and treasure hunting. They've definitely streamlined some sections or altogether removed some parts that didn't need to be there.

Sub 8 hour clear is a challenge so I imagine that you can choose to run past a lot of encounters too.

I've not utilised the boat yet, is that what slows down the initial pacing?

My guess is foliage. But that doesn't explain the poor performance in some early indoor areas, so who knows.

Lucky you have that 40hz mode to fall back on. That might be ideal.

Going from area to area? I used to get that in 2R until I turned Shader Cache off. The only difference I noticed was it causing pauses, so I've kept it off since then. No idea if it does the same in 4R but it's worth trying without it

Dammit all. Now I gotta backtrack and try to find crows to shoot.

Also anyone else rocking the Red9? Just started upgrading it. Don't recall really using this in the OG.

Having a blast with it so far, but the visuals and performance are pretty uneven. It looks amazing in parts and not so much in others.

Totally not gameplay related but I like to save videos/clips when I play. The game looks fucking great on my tv with series x but after saving clips it's dark as fuck. Like it looks like shit. Any idea why? Here's example.

It's nowhere near as dark when I'm playing the game

This is genius, she was never really in any danger — it was all about the ballistics. They needed to be touched, held, groped, SQUEEZED

Not being able to store certain items in storage is shitty.

Yeah it's kind of obnoxious that I can't put ammo for weapons I'm not using in storage.

Also, I miss how precise weapons used to be in the original. Bullets when exactly where I was aiming and I didn't have to worry about random spread/bloom.

Even with the stock guns like the tmp just spit everywhere.

Capturing in HDR on my TV and then opening / using it in SDR on PC often causes issues for me.

So like wtf am I supposed to do at this marble puzzle? I have lined up the picture and nothing's happening?

I can 100 percent see the symbol. It's like I don't have the right angle or something but it doesn't look correct any other way.

When it's rotated correctly all the dots will converge to become the symbol, is it doing that?

EDIT: It'll literally be a trace of the symbol.
