Thread: Redfall thread - Vampires = Billionaires | Updated Metacritic score: PC: 53 / Series X: 56
Every time I see a black woman/queer or androgynous protagonist featuring heavily on a game's promotional material I automatically assume the studio has been zombified by the woke mind virus and the general level of competency, creativity and fun has lowered and been replaced by hectoring, on the nose political messaging thinly disguised as sassy, brash, loud and annoying 'humour', shitty performance, and bugs.

Especially one that's wearing the Rick Moranis helmet from Spaceballs in hair form with pink sprayed onto the tips.

Hands were always strangely large in Arkane games.

Just watched the SkillUP review;he absolutely fucking savaged this game. I dont always agree with the guy but at least he makes long form reviews that explain his position and there is a lot here that is just inexcusable.

How's Microsoft feeling about this acquisition now? I didnt think it was possible but there is even more pressure for Starfield to deliver.

Just continuing the trend started by Andromeda.

If only they had taken the "we are down with young person diversity" further, they'd have a hit

Is this how Boletaria started?

@Helljumper already posted it, I added it as a thread mark.

Oh shit. Who could've guessed that the devs are a bunch of woketards?

Redfall is about killing billionaires because they're evil. Also Trump bad.

"The thematics are that the [richest] 0.1 percent are already vampires," Smith tells me. "And in this game, they literally become vampires."
Smith recalls completing work on Dishonored 2 at Arkane Lyon and living in Europe during a period where the UK voted for Brexit, right before the US voted for Donald Trump. "I woke up in the middle of the night," Smith says of the US election, "I was on Twitter and I was just watching my friends be like, 'What the fuck is happening?' There was just this crestfallen, defeated, kind of reaction. And that's when I felt it: 'This signals the beginning of something really wild.' This is populism. This is like echoes of earlier times in history."

And now after his shitty game with woke, box-ticking characters doesn't sell, it'll be:

"I woke up in the middle of the night. I was on Twitter and all my friends were laughing at me, and that's when I felt it: this signals the beginning of something really wild, this is unemployment."

Arkane never had good looking character models. I accepted it initially for Dishonored since they were going for a watercolor painting aesthetic with the visuals, so the weirdly proportioned characters looked appropriate, but they reused the same character aesthetic for not-Prey and it looked like ass.
Next up Atlas Fallen. Hope it does better, its pretty much Forspoken but actually does looks decent and the developers seem to have a better grasp of what they are trying to do.
Fallout?

Fallout?
Fallout is a iconic franchise and in an entirely different league than any of these games and too big to fail, even with lackluster reception to 4 and the disaster that was 76. The moment Fallout 5 is even rumored nevermind announced sometime after Starfield releases it will be one of the most anticipated games in the entire gaming world along with Elder Scrolls VI. Also taking into those accounts more recent rumors of a Fallout New Vegas remake/2?

Yeah I watched that video and holy shit he just wrecked in terms of the gameplay, systems, and just how dumb the AI is.

DF Analysis is up

Textures-1.png

Texture streaming is a massive issue. Check out this large asset on the truck that takes some time to load. Series S tends to load these textures more quickly, remarkably, but it's still way too slow in general.

Sometimes textures fail to load at all - the alternative scenario is that the original Halo: Combat Evolved on the OG Xbox has far superior tree texture quality than a brand new Series X game. Click on the thumbnails for higher resolution imagery.

The removal of most screen-space reflections (left) is one area in which the Series S version of Redfall is cut back compared to Series X. On the right we see that poor artwork can look even worse on the pint-sized console.

I fucking love that Arkane is going all Bud Lite on us and shitting on half its base's political beliefs. What a genius fucking move to stifle sales on your already troubled game lol.

This clown giving that interview tells me he is so far up his own ass that he didn't even realize his game was shitty; he's talking all cocky about political ideologies and shit like he just released something legendary when he should've been saying that he'll blow anyone who buys it. What a tone deaf motherfucker.

MC score got updated.... sub 60

CLEARLY the media didn't get the message that the game was a corollary on wealth being vampiric, which is an ironic statement to make given that it's published on Microsoft platforms. But regardless, if they realized this it would've been OMG 10 best game ever. The little communists writing in cramped silicon valley hovels would have LOVED IT.

Why Arkane even thought about creating a hybrid co-op loot shooter is beyond me. Sad to see them go from such highs as Dishonored and Prey to this. Their inherent strength is single player immersive sims, I get that it's fun to branch out and flex your creative muscles and talents, but this game is beyond horrendous.

there's a brothel of games Bethesda was already whoring out with online and mobile ventures: DOOM, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout in particular. The Fallout Shelter app has over 170 million downloads. DOOM got an "online community map" thingie and mobile apps, Fallout and ES both got an online-only game.

It was only a matter of time before Arkane had to play along with the online stuff, Microsoft buyout or no. I wonder if the multiplayer / asymmetric mp aspects of Deathloop were included in the game as a halfway concession to the multiplayer encroachment. Deathloop is a more fleshed out Prey: Mooncrash, not meant as a slight against thegame, but Mooncrash was a clear indicator (IMO) where they would've gone without the pressure to make their stuff online/MP

tbh Arkane probably got off easy only making a team-based shooter instead of a massive online-only world or a mobile game...

The pivot to games as a service model will be the death of a lot of the more creative studios with more risk averse owners.

Hopefully now Arkane have shat out this disaster they can get back to making excellent immersive sims given they have essentially unlimited financial backing and an owner desperate for any W they can get.

Maybe there's a single letter in the config file that needs to be deleted to fix the AI?

Lol, was that Colonial Marines?
