Thread: PlayStation VR2 Discussion Thread
I was an early adopter of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. I also own a Valve Index. On a whim I bought the PSVR2.

I can honestly say that this is the best VR headset I've ever used and the ONLY headset I've ever been comfortable using glasses with.

The tech is amazing.

So far I've tried GT7 and Thumper. I have a copy of Horizon: Call of the Mountain, but haven't tried it yet. I'll also probably pick up a copy of Resident Evil as well. I really hope Sony commits to continuing to support VR software development.

You bastards are making me want one. I love my rift but the bump in quality looks impressive (and by the sounds of it the PS5 is doing a damn good job of getting detail up where I think my 1660 would struggle to power it). So the big question - is this the leap in quality that makes VR finally stick?

It really is something.

I haven't played much GT7 yet, but I went into the garage and looked at the starter car I bought and I can't even describe the technical wizardry taking place.

It's just standing in front of a car model and very slowly walking around it, but the level of fidelity is something I just didn't think was possible in a VR headset. It was like standing in front of a car in real life. Just blew my mind. The actual racing visuals come back down to reality from that level of insanity, but are still extremely great.

I couldn't get tickets to the F1 race this year (without being scalped), that money is now going towards PSVR2. Now I just have to convince my father to try GT7 since he is a big racing fan.

There is a little too much taking control of the character away from you with cut scenes. In re 4 you would see a flat screen when that action happened, in this game you are still in full vr just watching it take place. I play seated so it isn't as disorienting but I imagine it would be big time to play standing for a new vr user.
I THINK I saw saw an option to display cut scenes in 2D.

Compared to the Rift? Huge.

All this new stuff to choose from and I can't seem to pull myself away from Song in the Smoke...yet again.

And I was under the impression that save files transferred for whatever reason and they don't, so I'm starting fresh for a 3rd run. I'm glad I never beat it on Quest or PSVR. This is just so much better in every way from those versions.

I'm liking it so far, but where do you turn on the free jump?

I had trouble finding that too. I'm like tinfoil-hat convinced that the option didn't show up in the settings until I had progressed further into the game. Maybe I missed it? I dunno, but I think it was called "Free Jump" or something like that.

I kinda didn't like it at first because you don't really get to know if a jump will hurt you before doing the jump the way you would if you were teleport jumping. But after more time, I do find myself preferring it.

Maybe you're right. I'm still in the starter zone.

Did previous purchases of thumper transfer? Or did you have to buy it again?

True story. Got it yesterday, set it up, downloaded the NFL game demo (which was ok, kinda wonky but still cool, I was amazed just looking around). Then, the system goes out.

Well, my fucking dog who doesn't chew on fucking anything except toys thought it would be a great idea to chew right through the headset cord.

I used this thing for five minutes and I already have to send it back. Hopefully Sony will take it back and exchange it. I wear glasses and have a big head and it fits fine. I was very upset and had to stay away from my dog.

Ah ok. Was a big fan of thumper on psvr. Wouldn't mind giving that a go on the OLEDs of PSVR2.

It's a 5 dollar upgrade for Thumper. Totally worth it IMO. the game looks and feels great. I haven't played it in a while, but it looks like they added on a few new sound effects, and one of the mini bosses threw in a new 'obstacle' that wasn't there before.

Thanks for the info. I will likley grab a PSVR2 in a few months and this will be one of my first games.

Bought GT7 since it was half price. I haven't drive since I got into a motorbike accident, should I get a Logitech wheel or it would be too difficult and a waste of money.

It's totally playable with the dual sense. The haptics help a lot.

Are you gonna break world records? Of course not. But you can manage fine.

If you order the wheel, shifter and seat setup and have it sent to me, I'll give you a comprehensive review to help you decide if you want me to send it back to you in 6 months.

It does feel ever so slightly less responsive than playing RE4 VR on the Quest 2. Like you can visually feel that reloading and moving around isn't as crisp or fluid.

It's especially noticeable if you switch right away to a game like Song in the Smoke, which does 90fps native. But damn the visuals in RE8 are nice.

I think you need to just try not focusing on a singular point when in movement. The thing is the prompts that show up for interactivity will also be blurred when moving. During a fight it's not really noticeable. Hopefully they can improve their reprojection algorithm although most of them suck if we're being honest. Perhaps dlss 3 is solving this, but I don't have a 40 series card to see how it looks compared to what sony and meta are doing.

I'm liking it a ton so far, and if you slapped the headset on someone who had never played VR before and this was their first experience, they'd wonder how anyone could nitpick it lol. It's definitely not a huge issue and all tech has its limits.

What I can't imagine at all is the PCVR headsets that only go up to 90hz and had 45fps-90fps reprojection when the hardware wasn't keeping up. That had to be horrible lol

Like that guy that is playing flight simulator reprojecting from 24 fps... lol

This VR kit really is nice, btw. I just bounced between RE8, GT7 and Song in the Smoke through the day and they all do different things so well. If I had all the time in the world, I'd have bought like 7 more games for it already.

I've had it happen - it's not wonderful but for the most part it was less vomity than letting the frame rate drop below 90.

Ok, need help from VR-fans: Can any of you buy "VR Kanojo" from Steam? I'd need someone to gift it to me (I'll pay for it, ofc). Game not available in Germany :7

The charger is so damn weird lol

I've put the controllers down onto it like 10 times now but every time I do it I feel like

Something in RE8 that's cool is that you can take the knife out of the holster, throw it in the air, catch it with your left hand, then grab the pistol with your right hand and dual wield. So you can shoot legs, slash, shoot some more, etc without any switching around. You can also throw your knife quite accurately. It's really fun throwing it at vases and plates from across the room.

So far I'm actually disappointed. I thought the motion blur I was noticing was because of reprojection, but I'm also seeing it in after the fall. I'm fairly certain that game is 90 fps at 90 hz. I think sonys pursuit of hdr is coming at the cost of motion clarity.

I love me some oled colors and contrast, but in vr motion clarity is king. I'm also finding the mura very distracting l. It's like a smudgy grain in my screen that's very noticeable in uniform colors like dark greys….

My man Bradley is saying we can crank down the brightness to boost our motion clarity… Thank whatever deity that needs to be thanked for this because the blur is not something I can live with in VR.

I'm feeling pretty glad I didn't grab Horizon before the launch. Feel like I dodged a $60 bullet there, but I'll try the demo next time I can play maybe. My brother just is not that happy with it. Says it's really mediocre. And because he's one of the people affected by the controller input issue, he can't play RE8. We want to get Pavlov to play online together, but there's no way for him to know if his motion controls will work for it. Sony needs to hurry the fuck up and fix that shit.

I've heard cycling the power (turn everything off, including ps5, wait 30 seconds, turn it back on) a few times in a row can help.

Oh yeah man I spent hours texting him on launch day and have linked him to multiple reddit threads including that one. It was so frustrating. I keep tossing him the updates to it and I have no idea if he's really trying them or not.

I couldn't even get him let me drive over and bring my controllers to see if swapping out new ones forced the software to reset in a way. He just got so dejected after years of hype and waiting and shit. We were both really excited for the launch.

But I do know he's tried almost everything from the list. Either way it's something Sony needs to fix on their end bc regular users aren't supposed to read 1500 word reddit essays to have just a small chance of fixing the issues on their new $600 VR kit.

Finally set the PSVR2 up last night.
Impressions:
Very very comfortable headset, more so than PSVR1
I love the rumble in the headset, that's a great feature that increases immersion
Small sweet spot but easy to find and keep (in seated games)
Super vibrant colours and deep blacks, so glad to be back with Oled
Controllers are great, very light and comfortable, superior to Quest 2 and vastly superior to Index controllers

Cons:
God rays and smearing with those fresnel lens
Can't think of anything else really

Games I tried:
Tetris Effect was lovely, the burst all around you when you do four lines at once never gets old

Thumper was really vibrant, stangely absorbing, the headset rumble is used great here

GT7 was awesome, but I was suprised how crap it made my driving, was seated too low in the cockpit, will have a look how to adjust that. Zero motion sickness was surprising

Synth Riders is super awesome in the headset, it was made for these Oled panels, highly recommended!

Overall after one night my thoughts are it's still just a VR headset, in that it doesn't feel revolutionary, rather evolutionary. I can see why people who were expecting it to match their 4k tvs are disappointed

Have you cleaned the protective manufacturing gunk off of the lenses?

Yeah gave them a good clean before I used it. It's not that bad at really, but if I had to put anything in the cons section that would be it. Honestly in evenly light scenes it's completely invisible, only in pitch black with white writing or something you can see it

That's shit. Has he done the power cycle? 3 time on the trot and then turn them on.

Sony need to push an update asap
