I believe so.

I just ordered a new mobo, cpu and ram the other day. Figured I should upgrade from my 10700k and slow ram. First time transitioning from Intel. Glad I went with the 7800x3d instead of the 9800x3d if the 10800x3d is really going to be on the AM5 socket...

I just can't see big cpu improvements anymore (or gpu for that matter). There will always be something around the corner to wait for. When we first started this thread people were saying Intel had the secret sauce and to hold out for their coming generation (or the one after that). Just buy what's best today or makes the most sense for you circumstances IMO.

Temps look okay, 45-50 idle, 70-80 when gaming. Tried Cyberpunk, same settings as yesterday (ultra minus path tracing and psycho rt), improvement from 45fps with stutters to 75 silky smooth. 50-60% CPU utilization. Clearly reached GPU bottleneck.

My understanding as I've upgraded my GPU from a 3080 to a 5080 is that with more fps and higher demanding graphics at higher resolutions, the cpu and RAM help a lot with 1% lows and overall stable framerate which makes everything feel smoother. I'm not upgrading to get more fps. I'm only upgrading out of necessity because my old cpu and RAM isn't cutting it with the lows in newer games. And I went team red this time because when I found out I needed to upgrade, I also found out there wasn't a good or cheap upgrade path for me on that old board since Intel loves to move to new sockets as much as possible, requiring me to spend a lot more on parts now than I wanted. Now, since AMD likes to stay on the same socket as long as possible, there is a nice path forward with the 10800x3D in case I upgrade my GPU in the future and for whatever reason become CPU limited again on the lows and I don't need to fork out as much or go through as much hassle changing everything out.

Also, while I'm not poor, I'm also not super well off either. I generally save up here and there over lengths of time in order to be able to do this. It's not as simple for some of us to just grab the best there is right now so being able to buy something that lets you upgrade as painlessly as possible is a huge plus.

Is that single core use? I'm still playing this game, I only have the all core use displayed in RTSS which says the cpu is rarely taxed beyond 25%, that's with path tracing on.

Been looking at cores in cpu temp. Path tracing probably bottlenecks gpu even further.

I only tested benchmark though

Id normally agree but Moores law is dead influencer has solid rumor track record. Word is 10800x3d is skipping 3nm and jumping straight to 2nm. That is basically 2 gen like jump. 10 core and 12 core single ccd rumored, 6+Ghz double 3d cache. And might even come as early as 2026.

Actually it's lower in gameplay. 20-40% across cores.

Seems like 3090 ti can't handle expensive RT options. I turned RT to medium high to get 90-100 fps. Game doesn't really look all that impressive tbh, I think I got in a bit late.

First line of that article is do not wait for it though. Even if he did wait a year and a half for it and all those performance metrics MILD predicted are true, no way AMD is going to hand out that performance for free when it would be so far ahead of the competition.

It's great that it should be on the same socket and there are performance improvements but I'd still go with 9800x3d right now and have that as an option in a few years time. :)

Oof, the case and the psu are on pre-order and they are still waiting for date confirmation. I hope I get it by end of May ........

New CPU does not give a performance boost I was hoping for in AC Shadows 🤔. It has much lower usage in it but framerates don't improve significantly. Is it a bug? @TaySan how did it ran for you?

In a game you should be either CPU limited or GPU limited. If neither is at close to 100% utilisation something is wrong, be it a bug or physical setup.

Happened to me recently with the last of us: part 2. I was getting 85fps maxed but GPU and CPU were at 50% or less. Devs patched it and my FPS doubled.

I remember CPU usage was pretty low on my 9800x3d. I think it might just be the game

If youre gaming 4k expect minor improvements in fps even with drastically better cpu. Need to go 1080p or use 4k dlss performance which internally is 1080p but looks sometimes better than native 4k to see large jump.

Weirdly enough, AC Shadows isn't a game that's really CPU bound so you won't see much benefits. Sony games are crazy CPU heavy, many UE5 games as well.

I was clearly CPU bound on 8700k judging by 100% usage so it's still should be better. I'll do more research when I start playing properly.

UE5 games probably heavy on CPU because most devs are incapable of making a dedicated shader cache step

My PC gaming experience today:

Goes to play a game I have installed. But haven't played in a few months.
It has a require 18GB update to play.
Starts the update download (goes ~8MB/s)
I walk away to do other things
Come back as its just finishing.
Boots game up.
Game gives an error message that the install files are corrupted.
Uninstalls game.
Begins 130GB download (goes <8MB/S)
Walks away to do other things.

Will he ever play the game? Or will space aliens finally reveal themselves and enslave the earth?
Tune in next time for these answers and more!

Couldn't you just Verify game files integrity? That would most likely have fixed the issue with minimal downloading required.

165 fps in STALKER 2 without DLSS with everything on Epic
100 fps in Clair Obscur without DLSS with everything on max (surprised I am not getting more)

Fans very silent.

Continuing the setup and installs. The machine is gorgeous!

I thought I was going crazy but now I'm sure I can hear my CPU work via headphones. When load jumps up I ocassionally get barely hearable noises. Looks like some electrical interference. This sucks.
